My Review:
A sweet, simple treasury of poems and quotes all centered around the gifts and blessings of friendship. Some Bible verses are also included to round out the precious sentiments the author wishes to express. And in Mary Engelbreit fashion, the illustrations are so timeless&endearing, you can't help but smile as you turn each page.
The poem, Make New Friends is my favorite one from the book. Simply because of this passage:
"You have one hand, I have the other. Put them together, we have each other." Its listed as a children's book and is possibly the sweetest, most darling book to read to children. But I didn't want my boys touching it because it was simply too perfect and whimsical to leave in their hands. This book is a perfect coffee table book sure to delight any company, you may have over to your home.
**Disclosure** This book was sent to me free of charge for my honest review from the publisher.
With a bit of a dance, much excitement, and the promise of a great afternoon read aloud to my grand-daughter... we ripped open the envelope for this delightful treasure. With the sun streaming through the window shades, curled up in our reading chair, we began our friendship journey. Mary Englebreit's illustrations would now be passed on to a third generation.
As we discussed the "friendship" quotes, poems, and Biblical truths we discovered the colorful joy within the depth of these "captured" moments of friendship. There were inspired "awh's... look... wow... if I..." exclamations of discovery. These moments within this treasury ensures a planting of "seeds" within a young reader's mind and heart. Teachable moments in which a child learns values, expectations, kindness, loyalty, and most of all how much life is cherished.
Nurturing friendship portrayals are woven with golden threads of Bible verses and quotes from classic authors: Longfellow; Caroline Norton; George Eliot; Charles Dickens; George MacDonald; William Butler Yeats; Henry David Thoreau; Shakespeare; and Edgar A Guest. Vivid and colorful threads are interwoven with newer author threads: Michael Leunig; Luciano de Crescenzo; Rebecca West; Shel Silverstein; Jan Miller Girando; Hilaire Belloc; Edna Buchanan; Elizabeth David; and Douglas Pagels. All of which will provide a richness in the "goodness" of the heart, the home, each other, and most of all the love within these "treasured" moments shared with a book.
The Blessing of Friendship Treasury is another wonderful collection by Mary Engelbreit. Her drawings are wonderful and whimsical and capture the fun and sweetness of childhood. The colors are bold and lively and help make the illustrations pop!
I read this book to my littles the other night. For her age, she really like it, even though there were a couple poems that were a little over her head, but even though she didn't full connect to that poem or two, she really connected to the illustration. She loved the details. The friends on each page, two legged or four legged, they caught her up and she kept wanting to point out each little thing that caught her attention.
I loved the collection of poems, verses, and sayings. They each represented the the fun and importance of friendship. This is one to hang on to and is a good book for kids and adults alike, because, hey, sometimes we adults need that little reminder of the specialness of friends.

Artist and author Mary Engelbreit's newest book is a joyous collection of poems, Bible verses, and sayings about friendship coupled with Engelbreit's refreshing art. Classified as a children's book, I am sure this volume will bring just as many smiles to adults as to youngsters. I see the book as the perfect gift to a treasured friend, especially a childhood friend that you've kept close over the years.
The last page shows two little girls seated on stools, holding hands. Below the illustration is this verse by Edgar A. Guest: I'd like to be the sort of friend that you have been to me. I'd like to be the help that you've been always glad to be; I'd like to mean as much to you each minutre of the day as you have meant, old friend of mine, to be along the way. With such an ending, you can see why this book would be an ideal way of letting someone special know how you feel. And don't we all have a friend or two who needs to hear just how much they mean to us?
This is a wonderful book! I think it is my favorite by Mary Engelbreit thus far.
The illustrations are just adorable and the quotes, verses, and poems are wonderful all about friendship. I didn't realize that this book had a previous publication but this copy is perfect for children or adults in my opinion. Everyone needs a friend! I feel like a lot of it is geared more towards girls but anyone can appreciate the reminders on what friendship is about. Each page is colorful and draws you into what is being said. I took awhile to read because I loved studying the pictures, there are a lot of details! I recommend to a bit older children, but this could be read to them at a younger age.
Wonderful book and would make a great gift!

This is a beautiful hardback book filled with lovely verses and poems and other writings on friendship. The best thing about it though is the wonderful pictures! I love the way the children are illustrated and the old-time innocence that each picture has about it. While the illustrations are creative and beautiful and detailed I don't think that the average child would sit down and have the patience to have this book read to them. I sat down with two of my grandchildren and they had me flip through the book and look at the pictures but they weren't interested in being read to. I think that the writing touches the adult heart much more than it would a young child. A beautifully illustrated book that touches the adult heart with the words and reminders of friendship and has the illustrations capturing a child's eye. This is going in my home library!
The Blessings of Friendship Treasury by Mary Engelbreit is beautifully illustrated. It is a high quality book that any young girl would be delighted to receive. This is an updated version of the 2002 printing.
The Blessings of Friendship Treasury is filled with lovely illustrations by artist Mary Engelbreit, poems and stories that celebrate friendship. It also contains bible verses that pertain to love and friendship. A few quick anonymous verses in the book:
Friends are kisses blown to us by angels.
A friend is someone who knows all about you but loves you anyway.
This is a book that any young girl would treasure. I treasure it and I'm an adult! Highly recommend this beautiful volume. It is available August 2014.

THE BLESSINGS OF FRIENDSHIP TREASURY is a cute and beautifully illustrated book about friendship. The age level says 4 - 8, but I think any age would enjoy this book. Timeless poems, quotes, verses, fill the pages.
This is an excellent book for gift-giving among friends, for grandparents and children to teach their children, and more. Also would be a lovely coffee table book.
The book is a collection of other peoples writings. and I did not recall seeing any works by the author. I would say she is a good collector of stories and the book is inspirational and beautifully illustrated. I would have liked to read some new stories etc. but the classics are good too.
