Maccabee

Rate this book
Long before the world ever heard of Adolph Hitler, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Hezbollah, or Hamas, a Syrian king calling himself Antiochus Epiphanes called for the destruction of the Jewish nation. Against impossible odds, one elderly priest and his five sons stood up to the king.
One of those sons became known as the Maccabee. It was the passion, faith, and military genius of the Maccabee that culminated in what is presently celebrated by Jews the world over as Hanukkah. This is the story of that man and the events that made him one of the great heroes of freedom-loving people everywhere.

Maccabee was a very good historical read. I thought David Carson did an excellent job of blending a story of love, betrayal and faith and war. Maccabee describes the beginning of Hannukah, my only disappointment was that he did not portray the Miracle of the oil lasting for 8 days and nights.

I was hoping for a sequel, but was saddened to learn that David C Carson had passed away. I highly recommend this book to all who enjoy historical fiction, but do note that it is quite violent...it is a book of war after all...

Liking it so far. A little geared towards teens, but still good for me. Fantastic story of Hanukah, from the Judas Maccabee point of view.

Judas - thy name is different from what I associate with. You are God's warrior and a true hero. The world needs this Judas like never before.
