I’m so glad that I got to review this book, because this is definitely one that will be used in our family in the years to come!
I think it would be great to pick a certain day of the week or month(whatever is best for your family), and do a chapter on that day. It might be wise to plan ahead. I like the idea of putting all the chapter numbers in a bowl and drawing one out for the next week or month’s activity. That way any planning and preparations can be made. With planning, the challenges can be done very economically.
Each chapter (there are 40) consists of the following:
A Bible verse and an opening statement
Reaching In- an activity with some questions to ask afterward
Reaching Into the Word- a Bible passage and a statement about that passage and 2-3 questions each for different age groups(ages4-7, 8-10, 11-13, 14 and up)
Reaching Into the World- a challenge out in the world
Some of these truly are a challenge. Do you think you could box up all the non-perishable food in your house to give to the needy? The point is to trust in God to provide for your family, help the needy, and teach selflessness.
I really liked the challenge of purchasing Bibles for anyone who may need one. (They don’t have to be new). The Simpson’s suggest maybe there’s a child who attends church who doesn’t have a Bible. They also suggest downloading free audio Bibles on the internet to distribute to those who have bad eyesight. I think this is a great idea! And there’s so many more great ideas throughout this book.
I really think the activities in this book will bring a family closer together and to God. And in the process, you’ll be helping so many people.

Move over boring! This will get your faith up and working!!

Looking for something a bit different for family devotions?

This book is great! Tim and Alison Simpson give 40 unique devotions for you to do with your family.

What's so different about them? Well for starters they have break out questions at the end of the devotions for different age groups, which I love -- I don't have to sort through and figure out what I'm going to ask for each age group my kids fall into because they've figured it out and done a great job of it!

It's broken down into simple to follow sections, so you can really spend as much or little time on it as you want. It starts with a bible verse, a story that helps with the verse, an internal family activity (this is where the age group questions come into play), than an external/outreach part.

I think this is a great way to help your family live your faith, rather than just reading about it. Some wonderful ideas and creative fun in here! You're family can't help but grow through a book like this!

Some of the ideas I've gotten out of the book to do with my children are:

* look online for the 10 commandments in another language that might be spoken and ask a friend who knows the language to translate it; frame it for them, or if they aren't interested in it, than keep it at home as a reminder to pray for them.
* plan a "mission" event for your kids so they can reach out and challenge each other.
* Not just go to a Seniors home and help out, but ask them if you can read their favorite passage or pray for them.
* Invite a new family from church over for breakfast to help them get "plugged in" to your community.

For the rest, you'll have to check out the book!

Or why not check out a Sample Chapter

If you are thinking of ways to be creative in your family bonding time then you do need a book that is filled with lot’s of ideas to get your family devotions fun and exciting.

Of course, our idea of the usual family time is going to church worship every Sundays and have some bible studies in the weekend.

But this book will take your leap of faith to another level that will strengthen your relationships and build solid foundation. Family members can truly benefit from a wide range of topics—all 40 of them!

Each chapter contains a selected scripture, a suggested family activity, a A&A portion on which you can discussed with your kid or children ranging from 4 to 14 and up.

A REACHING INTO THE WORD portion for in depth bible reading and REACHING INTO THE WORLD for tips on how to reach out to others. There are some suggestions that you might have already done like giving out bibles for those in need. But I found some ideas to helps you become more of a pro-active Christian like offering to babysit, volunteer for a church mission and join a non-profit organization

Things like that didn’t crossed my mind like buy a journal and arrange for several people to write encouraging notes to a certain person and other loads of tips that might be simple or interesting to try.

I would recommend this to anyone who are running out of ideas to keep up the family spirit and how to give generously of your time, resources and inspire you to be part of a larger community.

I read this book and am really excited! I think this would be great devotions or Family Home Evenings to do with the family. I plan on using it once a week in our home school this coming year as a devotional.

Each chapter contains an introduction message about the chapter~the topic.
There is also a Reaching In section where you would reach in to your own family and discuss various questions. Reaching Into the Word in the next section~ a scripture is given and various questions based on children's ages to discuss. The last section is the Reaching Into the World~ service based ideas to help others in the community.

I liked this book if for nothing else than it helps spawn ideas for how to interact with you kids in interesting ways to communicate God's truth. It will be a good resource but I am not sure I would go through it exactly with my family. I do like how each subject has the same questions asked in different ways for different age groups.
