If you have an interest in Jacksonian/antebellum era US politics, then you'll likely enjoy this book. Very interesting perspective and insight into the party politics of the time. Ashworth draws from various sources and presents a cogent argument that there was a clear distinction not just between the two major parties of the Second Party System - the Whigs and the Democrats - but that there were less stringent but distinctive factions within the parties themselves. While not easily approachable for a casual reader, if you have a strong interest in this period of history, then this is one to pick up.
