Agnes Barton has been waiting years for this day. She’s always told Sheriff Peterson he would rue the day when his re-election time came around and now — it’s finally here. What will Agnes do? Will she cause conflict or support the other candidate?
When the sheriff’s father Hal goes missing, Agnes and Eleanor Mason are on a mission to find him, leading them to the Soaring Eagle Casino. But when they haul him home it’s only to find that his companion, Raul Perez, is dead at the bottom of the stairs. When the cops show up it doesn’t look good for Hal who is in possession of the dead man’s credit card. With Hal now as a suspect, and Sheriff Peterson off the case, the sheriff hires Agnes and Eleanor to clear his father’s name.
Will Agnes be able to clear Hal’s name in time to save Peterson from failure at the polls or is this case too bizarre as a tenant claims aliens are involved?
When Madison Johns began writing at the age of forty-four, she never imagined she'd make it onto the USA Today best-selling books list with her first cozy mystery, Armed and Outrageous, as an independent author. Sure, this book is an Amazon bestseller, but USA Today?
Although sleep-deprived from working third shift, she knew if she used what she had learned while caring for senior citizens to good use, it would result in something quite unique. The Agnes Barton Senior Sleuths mystery series has forever changed Madison's life, with each of the books making it onto the Amazon bestseller's list for cozy mystery and humor.
Madison is a member of Sisters In Crime. Madison is now able to do what she loves best and work from home as a full-time writer. Fun story. Full of mishaps, killing, and mystery. It seems these older women are better at solving the crime than the local law enforcement. They carry on a love-hate relationship with the local Sheriff. But he does seem to need their help more than he lets on. A great story to read when you are stuck inside all the time.
The girls are back from Florida and Agnes is living in a camper. Stuff happened somewhere, but now a new guy is in town running for Sheriff but he is in possession of both wandering hands regardless of whether the female is willing and an obnoxious mother. Agnes rethinks her feelings about Petersen. His dad is missing so she heads off to the casino to track him down. He is in trouble because he has been using his caregivers credit card and now the man is dead. Agnes and El look into things to help the sheriff. Things get ridiculous pretty fast. Plot elements are thrown about rather than developed
Agnes and Eleanor are back. Madison Johns' cozy mystery series with the two mature lady detectives is always a fun read. There is Trouble In Tawas because Sheriff Peterson is running for sheriff and a younger man from Michigan's thumb is in town to run also and his mother is horrible. Peterson's father Hal has gone missing and Aggie and El track him down. When they bring him back to Twas here comes the dead body. Peterson can't investigate as his father is under suspicion ut he asks the pir to look into it and they do.
A cozy mystery about two senior amateur investigators. This book was about the death of the Sheriff's father's caretaker and the father was the main suspect. The Sheriff (he usually tells them to stop investigating murders) hire them to find the real murderer. It was a good read for my airplane ride.
This was another great mystery with a lot of excitement going on. I love it when there seems to be so much happening and to find out that it all ties up so nicely. There was no way that I could have guessed who dun it in this one. Madison Johns knows how to keep us coming back for more.
I am enjoying these books more each time I read one. Moving on to book 5 as soon as I'm done writing this review. The characters are becoming like old friends. Can't wait to read about their next adventure.
Madison Johns has written a book involving two senior ladies who invests mysterious goings on in their area of Wisconsin. The characters are believable and the book is written with a sense of humor. I recommend this book to all cozy mystery fans.
The story line was fairly good but the whole book felt like it was written by a child. The word choices were bad; in some cases, the wrong word was used and in many instances the verb tenses were mixed up. I enjoyed the first two books but this one was a bit of a struggle to read because of the writing problems.
Trouble in Tawas is the fourth in the Agnes Barton Senior Snoops Mystery series. It features 72-year-old Agnes Barton and her friend, 82-year-old Eleanor Mason, who investigate various happenings in Tawas, Michigan.
In this story, Sheriff Peterson's father, Hal, goes missing. A former sheriff himself, Hal suffers from dementia, but hated living in a nursing home, so his son arranged for him to live in an apartment with a paid attendant who was supposed to keep an eye on him. However, Hal seems to have slipped away, accompanied by his "girlfriend".
Agnes and Eleanor find them in Mt. Pleasant at a casino and end up bringing Hal back to Tawas. When they arrive at Hal's apartment, they discover his companion, Raul, dead at the foot of the stairs. They decide to investigate Raul's death.
I enjoyed this story more than some of the others in this series, because it didn't go into such detail on the seniors' love life. I know that seniors citizens have relationships, and having that mentioned in the stories is fine, like in this one.
What I have trouble accepting is when Agnes goes all hot and bothered to the point she can't think straight and acts like a giddy 14 year old who's never had a boyfriend before. So this story reads much better and I enjoyed it much more than some of the others.
This was a another great book by Madison Johns about Agnes Barton and Eleanor Mason who are senior sleuths. Agnes is 72 and Eleanor is 83. They have been friends for a long time and been in the sleuthing business for a few years. They always seem to turn up where there is a dead body or two or in this case three!
They both have gentlemen friends who are out of town in this book and the girls usually get into trouble when the boys are not around to keep them in tow.
This time the Sheriff's Dad is accused of murder of his companion and also of taking the guy's credit card. The senior sleuths track him and his girlfrind down to a casino in Michigan and bring them back to Tawas to face the music. Only to find that Raul's death was an accident.
Then, a body washes up on the beach on Lake Euhon and that is declared as an accident. But the senior sleuths are not convinced that is the case.
In trying to solve the cases they find another body that looks like a suicide. Too much for the ladies!
They finally figure it out, but not before they get in Trouble in Tawas, and the Sheriff has to come to the rescue!
Well worth the time to read and I am on the way to read the next one in the series, Treasure in Tawas, I just love these two old senior sleuths!
I like a cozy mystery, easy and fun to read. Agnes Barton and her gal-pal El are two snoopy seniors in a small town in Michigan. They have their noses into everyone's business in town and try (and do) to solve all the mysteries that arise. The plots are kind of skimpy and improbable, but fun to read. The ole' gals are a hoot! PS I'm an ole' gal, too.
I'm just an ordinary reader, not an English teacher. However, when grammatical errors (like the improper useage of I and me) occur repeatedly, it becomes so distracting that the story no longer has appeal. I had to stop reading it and go on to another book.
I'm on a spree of reading a whole lot of the books in this series. Five stars for a cozy mystery, as always. Once again I noticed some typo's - or rather, wrong words that were spelled correctly, not actual typos. But I was enjoying the mystery so that did not bother me. Agnes and Eleanor are worth it. Highly recommend.
I Found this book to be interesting but as a Sr citizen it is rather degrading . I missed the humor that was supposed to be, seemed a little dumb . I am familiar with the area and liked the references to TAWAS.
Another great read. Can't wait to read the next one. I highly recommend this book. I think Aggie and el are very believable characters. Keep up with these types of stories .
