Alane was looking forward to spending a cold, snowy Christmas alone to think over her future, until the two hundred year old ghost of Jared Elliott causes a change of heart, in more ways that one. She's falling in love with a ghost, and in five days she'll have to leave the rental property forever. Is it better for her to get on with her life? Can she ever forget Jared? Did she even want to?
3 stars. Pretty simple and straightforward. Cute. Lots of yearning and some instalove, but the two had good chemistry with dialogue and actions. Holiday dressing is present around paranormal/ghost story in contemporary rented cabin setting.
I just didn’t love it. It had potential but just didn’t quite get there. Then the resolution made no sense. There wasn’t enough story about the curse to bring about the end that it did.
The Ghost of Christmas Present by Jenny Massie Lykins Alane has rented the cabin for the holiday. She needs a bit of solitude to get her sketching back. Problem is Jared the ghost resides at the cabin. He appears and scares her into a faint. They talk and she finds herself missing him and wanting to know more about him. All she can see is his image and he's quite handsome. David her boyfriend wants to come up and join her but she tells him know she wants to be alone-except for Jared's company. She finds out why he can't leave, ever. He is up on the times but they can't find a movie to watch so they listen to her CD's. David shows up and she reads him the riot act and after he leaves she sits down and starts painting while talking to Jared. His life is drained and he is very weak from his actions...He tells her of the curse...The new owners want to see their cabin but Jared and Alane have other plans... Love this novella and especially the outcome...
If you want something short and sweet to read in abt an hrs this is the book for you. It's about a woman trying to decide whether or not to stay with a man who loves her, but doesn't understand her, or grab hold of a lifetime of love in shoved into 7 short days with a man that loves her, understands her but can't ever touch her because he's a ghost placed under a spell by his ex mother-in-law. It's short, sweet, funny and romantic. Not very intense, no big story line or plot, just an easy Christmas story to read when you have a few minutes to relax from the hustle and bustle of the Christmas season. I'd recommend this for all ages: preteen, teen and up
This was a very short but nice/sweet read. I liked the majority of it. The bonding sessions they had together were cute and fun. The setting was just right and Alane's initial reaction to her ghost was hilarious. But I felt that it wrapped up too quickly which made the ending a tad bit unrealistic from the rest of the story which was completely believable to me. That was my only complaint but overall I'm glad I read it and will read again.
