There was good i formation in the book for beginners. At the beginning of the book the author states he wanted a content rich book. It took at least 9 pages to get past this. Many pages had a sentence such as this will not be discussed here or this will discussed later or in the second book. This drew my interest away from the content. Good illustrations and charts. Enjoyed the hyperlinks.
Being a novice to photography, the previous books I read assumed some previous knowledge I did not have. I came away overwhelmed, confused and ready to put my camera on Craigslist, convinced I would never learn to use it. This book clarified everything for me! Looking forward to reading the other books in his series. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Al Judge!
Easy to understand, takes the mystery out of aperture and ISO.
This is the easiest book I have found yet for the beginning photographer ( like me) to understand. So far I have gone through three beginner books and a short online course for beginners, this is the best at explaining the exposure triangle that I have found. Easy, interesting read, I'll look for the author's other books.
This is a good book, both enjoyable and informative. Many pictures and derailed discussion on them. My only complain is that the author sometime went overboard with details...for example, he spends a complete paragraph on darkroom.! There are many others, which would call information polution, and should be avoided.
Good starter book. I read it through in one sitting. Easy read, good illustrations. I thought what now appears to be in subsequent books would be in this one. My one complaint is that the cameras reviewed date this book. Today, in 2019, Sony and Fuji are trend setters in the mirrorless field. Neither is mentioned.
One of the best books I came across on digital cameras. Very scientifically dealt with. Will definitely be looking into the books of the same author. Read this book and learn about your camera. Better understanding leads to better photographs.
Es un libro escrito con dedicación y cuidado. Excelente para entender conceptos básicos para principiantes, y algunos no tan básicos para quienes tienen años como aficionados.
I found the last three chapters very useful. The first four chapters will be useful for those looking for their first DSLR. The author's style is very concise and informative. I look forward to the remaining two books in the series.
A book that covers all essential camera items. This type of book is always very dry, but Al has done well to keep it interesting with his use of light language and very little jargon. A recommended book for someone looking to get serious in photography.
It begins good. Detailing the camera and suddenly, lots if information are shiwb making it hard to understand. There should be some comparisons with external subjects to make it easier.
Easy read a lot of information that is very useful to both the beginner and intermediate users even if you have used film and moving to digital a lot of info.
Author makes no assumptions about your knowledge, but manages to pack a great deal of useful information. I like the modular format of the books as well.
That said, there are typos and sections I skipped entirely: chapters with lists of camera models and their settings that felt like a huge waste of space. I feel I am developing a much better understanding of DSLR photography.
