The perfect boyfriend...
The haunting from a past life...
The stalking by a mystery guy having his own purpose

It Started in New York when Megan Smart touched an artifact from ancient Egypt. Immediately she had a reaction that catapulted into a haunting vision in her bedroom suite that night. What she saw ignited a flame that the shy, reserved freshman used to walk sensuality right into her boyfriend, Tyler bedroom, even with her parents in the same hotel suite.

Hoping the stirring of heated boldness was for Tyler only, Megan goes to a frat party; there, she is asked to dance by the same incredibly alluring dark haired stranger that frightened her in the courtyard earlier. Resisting but not winning, Megan accepts the extended hand he offered. Their moves, their groves twined together as they moved provocatively as one with only one problem … Tyler was watching it all. Distraught and on the brink of a break down, Megan is rescued for the second time by an unnamed stranger.

On the verge of having her entire life crash in on her, Megan is ready to listen to her mother about her astrological chart and reclaim her life with Tyler. But is that in the card for Megan, or will her past swallow her up into a brand new future?

Book received from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I'm not sure how to explain my feelings for this book. I read a lot, and I admit I more often then not review the non-fiction I read over the fiction, but this book has me in a swirl of confusion. I struggled to read it, tried several times, and even stepped back and said to myself - "It's a book for young adults, read it that way." - and still couldn't manage to get more than a third of the way into the book. I didn't like the characters, the premise - though intriguing - fell flat, and I got really tired of the name dropping of products. It's marketed and geared for New Adult/College audiences but the writing style comes off as Young Adult/Teen. I never did manage to finish the book despite repeated attempts to read it.

I was gifted a copy of this book for an honest review. Now, let's get to it!

I really like stories that deal with reincarnation; scratch that, I love stories that deal with reincarnation. That alone piqued my interest in regards to this book. I wanted to like this book, I really did. Its just that, I didn't really like Megan, the main character. I couldn't find anything to latch onto. She seemed one-dimensional to me, and I couldn't get past some of the things Miller decided to have in the book (favorite fragrances, pieces of seemingly unnecessary dialogue/inner thoughts that added little to nothing to the story, and things of that nature). It didn't allow for much of an immersive experience.

Meg's abrupt changes in attitude nearly gave me whiplash. One second she's trying to escape the things she sees, and she's comfortable and wanting to continue in the next. This was followed by a fear of all things Egyptian-related for basically the whole book apart from one instance later on. She couldn't decide how she felt about everything. I guess that has to do with the immaturity that comes with being a college freshman(?). I don't know, both she and Tyler seemed insufferable to me (I mean, football analogies during sex? Really Tyler?). And the stereotype of making it out the ghetto (or rough neighbourhood I guess) seemed a little too heavy handed throughout. Maybe I'm being too harsh on Tyler since that's a big part of his character (which I think it is), but still, to hear about it so often was taxing. There were other stereoptypes at play as well, and if I can't connect to the characters, I can't enjoy the book.

On a minor spoiler note, I thought I was in for a borderline erotica near the beginning of the book. I think it was chapter 3 or 4 where I was confused, and had to make sure I was still reading the same book. Totally out of left field. Didn't really happen like that again though.

All in all, the stereotypes, immaturity of the characters and they way most of them spoke kept me from enjoying the book. I don't know if that is due to me not reading enough new adult books or what, but, unfortunately I wouldn't recommend this one.

Return by Max W. Miller

Megan is about to go to a great new college with her close to perfect boyfriend who is a football player at that college when the two of them and her parents head to New York on a trip. Megan is disappointed since they were supposed to go to Egypt at first, but soon the trip to New York becomes much more eventful than she planned. When looking at some Ancient Egyptian artifacts, Megan can't help but touch one of them which leads to her having visions. Megan doesn't know what is happening and she is worried that this might change her and cause her to lose everything that she loves so much.

This novel was very readable. I read most of it in one sitting and I wasn't bored the whole time. I really like Miller's writing style. She didn't go overboard with purple prose or anything like that.

I also adored Megan's roommate from the south. She was adorable and very likable. I wish that she had been the main character because she is so interesting and funny. I liked all her sayings and I might read some of the later books in the series just so I can see what happens to her.

I really did want to like this book, but the main problem I had with it is that it doesn't have much of a plot. Mostly it is just about Megan trying to find out what is wrong with her and freaking out because of what is happening. It's more her freaking out then trying to find out what is wrong, too. This book could have been a lot shorter than it was for that reason.

I should probably give this book two out of three, but I loved the roommate and it was a fun book to read despite the plot problem so I am going to give it three out of five. I hope that the next book will have more of a plot than this one did.

"Return" is about a girl going to college and her paranormal experience that continues from her vacation with her folks. Megan was suppose to go to Egypt with her dad for her vacation before starting college but instead she ends up going to a museum with new antique Egyptian materials at a museum. She is told not to touch anything but does and finds herself being able to read the broken tablet. She has no knowledge of Egyptian language. Megan watches a"dream" as she lies down in her hotel bed. She doesn't understand it. She tries to ignore the paranormal experiences but finds it difficult. Her first college party she attends turns into a disaster and she goes home to her parents. Megan's mom had asked her to come home to have her astrological chart read. This is not a horoscope but a way to "find your path."
She get a ride home with a new college quad mate and her best friend. I won't tell anymore as I don't want to spoil it for you.

Once you start reading, you won't want to stop as it captures your imagination, curiosity and wonder. I will be continuing this series. I need to know more!

I received the book from the author for an honest review.

Not listening to the good Doctor at the museum, her disobedience caused much havoc in her life. From being an average middle class daughter of a brain surgeon to being possessed by a young woman from the past, her life spiraled out of control with no way of piecing it all together again.
An interesting story with many twists that continues to alter Megan's life and the people she care the most about.
Tyler's-quarter back and student-life changed as well. Changing from a caring and loving person to a man that only understands one thing. Proving once again that men's minds work in one direction without considering anything else.
Her mum, Katie Smart, an obnoxious woman I really didn't like. She was rude, judgmental, racist and in general not a nice person to be around. Having money and a good standing in life she thought she was better than the people she meet. Disregarding them as individuals.
I liked Misty's character the most, although they only met the same day Megan's life fell apart, she showed more character. The impact of the growing friendship was noticeable from the start. Personally I think there is more behind the blond and blue eyed bombshell from Texas.
Interesting story with lots of potential.

I have mixed feelings about this book. Some aspects I didn't like that much and I was a reluctant reader at first. The plot is great, I like the variety of characters, good (Misty) and bad (Megan's mom). Most of the characters are unique and well-developed. There was something about the writing style that took some getting used to, but the plot sucked me in and I read the whole book. I really want to find out what happens next.

I read the one star review on amazon.com, and I agree with that reviewer to some degree about the level of research and description (or lack thereof), but that didn't bother me one bit while reading the book. I didn't notice a lack of description until I read that review.

This book is fiction, and not claiming any historical accuracy. I think it the book got me sucked in and I want to read more. And that's good enough for me. It's more than other books do.

Egyptian Moon Series - Book 1 Return: Return by Max W. Miller I received a free kindle copy of Egyptian Moon Series - Book 1 Return: Return by Max W. Miller, published by Ironshield Marketing LLC from NetGalley in exchange for a fair review.

I gave this intriguing book about reincarnation & a young college freshman almost five stars. The characters were well written & the subject interesting. The dialogue was snappy & funny. The loss of one star was because of the steep cliff hanger ending with apparently no Book 2 available. In spite of that, I highly recommend this young adult fiction.

This book really was a page turner. It was so easy to empathize with Meg, the main character. I felt the pain of her relationship and the pain of trying to begin college and friendships that aren't always what we expect. This book really grabbed me because it was an usual concept of possession. Good read! I highly recommend it and look forward to the next book.
