“Each generation, evil takes form and steals the soul of the most devout.”
A long forgotten myth holds the key to the evil descending upon Bandit Creek. When the town turns to their beloved former pastor for answers, little do they realize he may be the evil they fear.
Nathan Hanlin is at a crossroads. His soul is in jeopardy, and he doesn’t know it. Yet. He thought leaving the church would be easy, but when demonic crows start talking and demons reveal a secret about his past -- he realizes turning his back on God might have been a mistake. A ripped page from a journal holds the key to discovering why the supernatural are appearing in Bandit Creek but it’s too late. The myth is real and the only person who knows the answer is missing. Can Nathan save the woman he loves...or is he the reason her life is in danger?
Chocolate, flowers, bubble baths, candle lit dinners, sipping wine by the fire...these are all things that remind me of what romance feels like. I'm a romantic at heart and I think you are too. Love comes in many forms, whether online, by blind dates, whether it's true love or a love from the past. All of my stories will be centered around one theme - meeting Prince Charming - and I promise there will always be chocolate involved! Thanks for joining me on this journey of falling in love all over again as we discover the one man who knows just how to sweep us off our feet.
Readers learn near the beginning of the story that Pastor Nathan Hanlin has had his share of heartache. His father is dead, his mother insane, and his pregnant wife has been killed in what he deems is a senseless tragedy. He has now left the church he had been spiritual leader of and is asking not if there is a god, but why God has let him down and abandoned him.
Soon, Nathan questions if an ominous evil presence he can see is actually taking root in the quaint town of Bandit Creek. The good-hearted and god-fearing townsfolk begin to witness what appears to be evil incarnate and Nathan may be at the heart of it all.
I was riveted to this story and couldn’t put this novella down. Steena Holmes should expand this short story to novel length; she’s already tapped into her inner Stephen King!
This was a good, solid supernatural story with some twists that I didn't see coming. The only problem...It's not long enough! Seriously, I'm looking forward to the next book to see how the story turns out. My full review is on my blog if you're interested: http://thechippermuse.blogspot.com/20...
I received this story from Bewitching Book Tours and devoured it pretty quickly.
The very blurb called to me, made me want to read it. I mean, who doesn't like talking demonic crows? Once I actually got into it, I found it to be as awesome as the blub suggested.
Steena creates a tormented character in a short amount of space, and I was soon rooting for him and the choice he had to make.
There's romance, drama, magic, darkness...pretty much anything you could want in a tale of the devil and the pained priest.
A short book which is a lead in to The Fallen Guardians. A story set in a small town about a pastor with a tragedy in his background and a "strange" genetic makeup. This story has him seeing a mysterious man and a flock of crows and he and the townspeople seeing a mysterious swarm of bugs.
More to be explained in The Fallen Guardians which I will read next
A wonderful read full of interesting characters. It's the story of one's man's struggle between understanding loss and the nature of good and evil. Looking forward to the sequel!
