Marie Rydzynski was born on March 28 in West Germany to Polish parents. She moved to America at the age of four. For an entire year, Marie and her family explored the eastern half of the country before finally settling in New York.
Marie swears she was born writing, "which must have made the delivery especially hard for my mother." From an early age, Marie's parents would find her watching television or tucked away in some private place, writing at a furious pace. "Initially, I began writing myself into my favourite shows. I was a detective on '77 Sunset Strip,' the missing Cartwright sibling they never talked about on 'Bonanza' and the 'Girl from U.N.C.L.E.' before there was a 'Girl from U.N.C.L.E.,' not to mention an active participant in the serialized stories of 'The Mickey Mouse Club.'" Marie began to write her first romance novel when she was 11 years old, although she claims that, at the time, she didn't even realize it was a romance! She scribbled off and on, while dreaming of a career as an actress.
Marie was only 14 when she first laid eyes on the man she would marry, truly her first love, Charles Ferrarella. During her days at Queens College, New York, acting started to lose its glamour as Marie spent more and more time writing. After receiving her English degree, specialising in Shakespearean comedy, Marie and her family moved to Southern California, where she still resides today.
After an interminable seven weeks apart, Charles decided he couldn't live without her and came out to California to marry his childhood sweetheart. Ever practical, Marie was married in a wash-and-wear wedding dress that she sewed herself, appliqués and all. "'Be prepared' has always been my motto,"the author jokes. This motto has been stretched considerably by her two children, Nikky and Jessi, "but basically, it still applies," she says.
In November of 1981, she sold her first novel for Harlequin. Marie, who now has written over 150 novels, has one goal: to entertain, to make people laugh and feel good. "That's what makes me happy," she confesses. "That, and a really good romantic evening with my husband." She's keeping her fingers crossed that her reader's enjoy reading her books as much as she enjoyed writing them.

I love the Cavanaugh series and I was so excited when Andrew found another whole branch of the family. As Brennan put it "I've heard of family trees, but this is damn near a family forest." We met Brennan at the end of Cavanaugh Hero when he broke his undercover role to save Andrew Cavanaugh. Because of that move, his bosses at the DEA put him on desk duty, which he hated. At a family gathering where the new batch of Cavanaughs were getting to know the family, Brennan is offered an undercover job by the Chief of Detectives. So he is now trying to get on the inside of a human trafficking ring that is kidnapping young girls.
Tiana is a CSI detective in San Francisco when her younger sister goes missing. She takes a leave of absence to go looking for Janie. Janie is the only family she has after the death of their abusive father. Their lives with her father have made her very distrustful of men, and the smooth operator she finds sets off all kinds of alarms. She's sure he's connected to the ring, but he's unlike any of the criminals she's come into contact with in the past. He's also being very accommodating to her in her own role as a madam looking for workers. She's thankful, but also somewhat suspicious.
This was so much fun to read. I loved the initial interactions between Tiana and Brennan. Each is suspicious of the other one. Brennan thinks she's too classy to be what she says she is, but he's willing to keep her close and use her to further his attempts to find the missing girls. Tiana finds him a bit too personally appealing to her, and doesn't understand why he seems to be slipping past her barriers. I liked the way that she trusts him enough to take his advice on the meeting she has with the trafficker, but still has reservations about him.
It gets really good when she decides it's in her best interests to turn him over to the cops. He tries to tell her he's undercover, but she doesn't believe him. I loved the scene where she actually took him to the police station. Once everything is sorted out, I liked the way that they joined forces for real. They have a nearly seamless way of working together that gets them a lot of very useful information. Things are also heating up for them on a personal level. Brennan sees the way she guards herself, and wants to show her that it's possible for her to have much more happiness than she allows herself. She brings out feelings in him that he hadn't expected to feel quite yet. For Tiana, Brennan is unlike any man she's ever known before. He is protective of her but he also respects her abilities. The passion she feels for him she plans to enjoy for as long as it lasts, even though she doesn't expect anything long term.
I loved the culmination as they found "Mr. Big". Both Brennan and Tiana did a great job of thinking on their feet. I really enjoyed Brennan's recruiting of his brother and sister as backup and the fun family dynamics among them, even as they are always available for support of each other. The excitement of their search kept me turning the pages until everything was resolved. Brennan's timely appearance at the crucial moment also gave another little piece of information about him that explained more about the man he is.
Of course, I loved the epilogue as it takes place at another Cavanaugh family event. I always enjoy the reactions of people new to the family, and Tiana is no different. Her reaction to the Cavanaugh track record is great, especially with what Brennan has to say.

By the edge of your seat and nerves that are wound tight in this fast paced story. When a CSI Investigator comes to town on a mission to find her baby sister; things become fast and firry with a handsome Detective who is undercover in a sting to stop a sex trafficking ring.

Another great book of Ms. Marie's Cavanaugh Justice. With a new side of family, there going to be more Cavanaugh's in the Aurora PD! Tiana is looking for her sister and runs into "Bruce Wayne", (not sure where the ben Cartwright name as other than Brennan's correct initials that's the only thing correct!)
As far as the story, she's not sanctioned to stay there and I was surprised Brian, chief of D's, didn't plan that when he told her to go home or why there was no explanation from him!
Loved how they gave into how they felt finally! But even their conversations were cute!!
“You know,” he told her, “I rarely take second helpings and I’ve never gone for thirds.”
. . . “Are you saying what I think you’re saying?” Tiana asked in amazement. He played with a wisp of her hair at the nape of her neck, wrapping the red strand around his index finger. “I am,” he told her.
She didn’t frown so much as look a tad puzzled. “I know this makes me sound really naive, but...” She hesitated for a second before asking, “Is that normal?”
He grinned, amused. Her innocence warmed him. “For me or in general?” Her shoulders moved in a puzzled shrug. “Whichever you feel most comfortable answering.
"He did what he could to attempt to look serious. He succeeded only marginally. “No—and possibly.”

“You know,” she began slowly, “for a very smart man, you can be awful stupid.”
"Wait, is this going to end well or badly?” he asked. “I need to be prepared.”
"You need to have your head examined,” she contradicted with a laugh.
She felt like Cinderella being swept away by the prince. “But while we’re waiting for that, yes, I’ll marry you.”

Tiana and Brennan are a well-matched couple, but I kept wanting more to happen as I was reading this book. The plot was on track to be suspenseful, and it was to a certain degree, but I felt that each scene needed a little more depth. The exception to my opinion on this was the romantic scenario where Tiana and Brennan took their relationship to the physical level. If the author brings the depth and emotion of the romantic scenes to the other chapters of writing, then future novels will be on track for four or five star ratings.
The sex enslavement trade, although germane to the plot, remains a grim topic. I think there are other crimes to write about, which may bring suspense, rather than revulsion - but that remains my personal opinion. Ms. Ferrarella handled the sex crime topic well, without straying into unnecessary or unsavory detail. For this, her writing is to be commended.

This has got to be the most idiotic heroine in any book I have ever read. I kept wondering if she would live to make it to the end of the first 50 pages. She takes it upon herself to go undercover to rescue her sister, no backup and no preparation. She could easily have killed the actual undercover cop and should really have been arrested for the number of times she brandished her gun for little or no reason. I am frankly surprised at the rave reviews. The whole thing was so far-fetched it was almost laughable. In the end, the author glosses over the sister's trauma and recovery, really giving the reader no info on what happened to her. I can only assume she is saving that story for another book in this series. I guess there must be a Cavanaugh who is a psychologist...

Never Fails
I have nearly all M. Carroll's books. Not a one has ever failed to live up to my expectations, including this one. I eagerly await each new book. Her works are definitely "keepers". Thanks, Marie for so many hours of reading pleasure.

fast moving read. Have read some of the series before. the dialogue between Brennan n Tiana to keep their cover lost me at times but liked the sex n finding Janie. Just know to find the lost girls for real may never be uncovered.
