Very good book that kept me involved from beginning to end. Connor is a retired agent who left Sphere because he didn't like some of the things he saw. His younger brother was also an agent who was reported killed six months earlier. Connor feels guilty for being the one who got Aiden involved in the agency. When Kate shows up at his remote cabin claiming that Aiden is alive, he's reluctant to believe her, but he has to take the chance.

Kate has received some information leading her to believe that her friend and coworker Aiden is alive but a prisoner. The agency they work for insists that he is dead so she takes time off and searches out Aiden's brother for help. She needs his help, but she also knows enough about him that if she tells him everything she knows at the beginning he'll refuse to take her along. She makes it clear to him that he has to take her along. What he doesn't know is that she feels partly responsible for Aiden's capture so it's up to her to make sure he's rescued.

The initial meeting between Connor and Kate was pretty rough. Connor doesn't trust anyone, and having someone from Sphere show up unannounced sets off all his warning bells. He wants to believe that Aiden is alive, but he also thinks that it could be a setup. He wants Kate to tell him what she knows so that he can go off and do his thing by himself, and is furious when she won't cooperate. Kate refuses to be left behind, so they reach a tentative agreement and leave for Tumara.

Almost immediately upon arriving in the country they are followed by agents wanting to stop them from looking for Aiden. At that point it's Connor's skills that help them escape and get them on the road to finding out what happened to Aiden. Kate discovers she isn't quite as prepared for fieldwork as she thought she was and has to depend on Connor to survive in the jungle. By this point, they both realize that they are attracted to each other, but try to bury it for the sake of the mission. It's easier said than done.

Kate was familiar with Connor's reputation as an agent, but had been surprised by her immediate attraction to him. She's mostly annoyed by his paranoid attitude toward her, but sometimes she gets the feeling that he's attracted too. She also has moments where he's actually nice to her. Because of her friendship with Aiden she's aware of some of the things in his past that have made him the way he is. She would really like to get him to trust her.

Connor's distrust of people runs very deep and he starts out not trusting Kate at all. If she's not the one setting him up, then she's being used to do so. He's attracted to her almost from the beginning, but he also thinks that she belongs to Aiden, so he isn't going to give in to it. By the time she convinces him the she and Aiden are just friends, that attraction has a good hold on him. Once they are in the jungle searching for news of Aiden, Connor begins to develop some respect for Kate, as she does whatever is needed for them to survive. That respect grows the further into the mission they get, especially when her mad computer skills are called for. He also finds himself beginning to trust her more than he's trusted anyone other than his brother, and feelings start to grow from that.

I loved the intensity of their mission. From their escape at the airport to the trek through the jungle to their arrival in the city, the action never stopped. There were people they encountered along the way that you weren't sure whether they were good guys or bad guys, and some you suspect right off are not to be trusted. I couldn't get through the last part of the book fast enough I was so involved in whether or not they were going to be able to save Aiden, and if they were going to make it out themselves. I thoroughly enjoyed that last confrontation and the way it all happened.

The epilogue was a highly satisfactory wrap up. It was great to see the changes that happened to everyone, but especially to Connor. I wonder if we will see them again in a later book. I'd also like to see more of Finn and Alex Hyde.

I really enjoyed this book. Kate works for a agency that has
agents. Her job is to keep the agents safe by being on top of the Intel. She is a really good Intelligence database analyst. She can make magic happen behind a key board. Everything changes the day her friend Aiden disappears. He was thought to be dead. The family had a moral service for him and everything. One of her contacts gave her information, that they thought Aiden was still alive, but was being held against his will. She knew she had to save her friend.

She ends up at Connor's house. He is Aiden's brother, and her only hope. Connor does not trust anyone. He also does not like people. He lives in the middle of know where, so people won't bother him. He hopes the lady knocking on his door will just go away. After she didn't, he hoped she was just lost, and needed directions. He was shocked, when she knew his name after he opened his front door to her. Connor did not believe that his brother was alive, but could not walk away if there was a slight chance of saving his brother.

Kate brought out the best in Connor. I loved to watch the two work together throughout this mission, and journey. Connor came with his own skill set. He was a retired agent. Connor made the perfect Hero in this book. I've always loved the protective, rough around the edges kind of Hero's, and Connor was all that and more. It was nice to see the tough guy get soft when it came to Kate, and to see how he felt for her.

This was a story with action, suspense, and romance. Once you pick up this book, you will not want to put it down until you finish it. Great book!

A number of factors in TRAITOROUS ATTRACTION made me want to read the book, and not one of these aspects disappointed. Two strangers have to work together on a perilous mission, where they must hike through a jungle which has countless risks that could come at them from numerous sources. I have always loved this plot, and C.J. Miller gives her couple some original dilemmas to prevail over or their mission cannot continue. Add in lots of sexual tension, and scenes become even more riveting because of unleashed passions. From beginning to end, TRAITOROUS ATTRACTION keeps you totally engrossed in every compelling development.

When a woman Connor West does not know comes to his remote cabin, he hopes she will leave after they speak a few words. But after she mentions his dead brother’s name, he listens to what she has to say. He keeps wondering if Sphere, his former employer, could have sent Kate Squire to trick him, as he does not trust the covert agency where he and his sibling were undercover agents. Learning she works as a computer analyst, she reveals that much information they were told about his brother could be false.

Though he is not certain she is telling him the truth, Connor feels he must go to the South American country where his brother was reportedly killed and discover what actually happened. There is much political unrest in the area, and he does not want her with him. But since she will not divulge all she knows, he cannot leave her behind. As they work their way toward their destination, Connor and Kate come to realize they have many more challenges to overcome than they first thought.

The immediate intrigue in TRAITOROUS ATTRACTION leads to around-the-clock danger. There are more than a few uncertainties when Connor and Kate begin their secret operation, and doubts about what path to follow only mount as new problems crop up. Having to rely on someone that was a stranger just a couple of days ago is not easy, especially for someone as untrusting as Connor, and I liked seeing his reactions to the different circumstances he and Kate had to face. They never knew who would come into their lives and whether these individuals would be a friend or foe. Snap decisions are often the norm for them, as bodily threats could occur at any time. There was plenty of suspense to keep me wondering how these two would ever make it out of several situations alive, and Ms. Miller made some of the events particularly harrowing. TRAITOROUS ATTRACTION is imaginatively suspenseful and keeps you reading.

While the physical threats to Connor and Kate continue to intensify as the story progresses, the jeopardy to their hearts also increases when they become closer. Connor lives a solitary life and trusting someone is very hard for him. Plenty of background is given to let the reader know why he finds it so difficult to have faith in anyone, and I like how the author made his previous and current choices so realistic. Kate has a private reason for wanting Connor to help her, and her struggles over any decisions made are often moving. While the desire they feel for each other is frequently very potent, being able to completely have faith in the other person is also crucial to their relationship.

Traitorous Attractions by CJ Miller is a page turner. I got so involved with it that I had to stay up last night and finish it.

Kate Squire finds Conner West and persuades him to help her find his brother. Conner thinks he is dead but Kate believes he is being held by the revolutionaries in Tumar. Although he doesn't really believe her, Conner can't take the chance his brother is still alive. He reluctantly agrees she can go with him when he searches.

During their search, they find the government is actually holding him in prison. This can explain why the agency the three work for is not attempting to locate him. Now the agency turns on Kate and Conner and start chasing them. Now Conner believes his brother is definitely alive. Now to get him out.

It is a fast paced book involving lots of fighting and spying. It takes the characters from America to the jungles of Tumar. Will they find his brother? What will happen between Kate and Conner?

I give the book 4 stars. I bought this book at the star of summer as a quick, fun summer read. The suspense/action was the main plot with the romantic relationship a subplot, both both kept me fairly well engaged. An enjoyable summer read.

4 1/2 stars actually. It is hard to believe C.J. Miller hasn't been published very long. Her writing is extremely good.
