Great start to the series, after the prequel of Beauty and the Best Man set things up. JD Lassiter is dead and the reading of his will has shaken up the entire family. Sage isn't expecting anything, having been estranged from his father for awhile, but he's furious when his sister isn't left what everyone expected her to get. To make matters worse, his father's nurse is given three million dollars. Sage is sure that Colleen manipulated his father somehow and is determined to find out the truth, even if that means sleeping with her.

Colleen wasn't expecting anything, but the money will give her the chance to fulfill her dream of becoming a nurse practitioner in the isolated areas near Cheyenne. She's upset by Sage's accusations, but feels she's alleviated his fears when he starts to spend time with her.

There's an intense attraction between Colleen and Sage that they try to resist. Sage was burned by a woman when he was younger and has spent the years since not trusting them. He'll sleep with them, but he doesn't allow his emotions to get involved. He'd rather keep to himself and protect his heart. But he finds that Colleen isn't anything like what he thought she was. The way she cares for others is something he hasn't seen in the women he usually dates. He also gets very protective of her when he finds out what her plans are. But his fears for her safety and his lack of control around her have him running scared. He doesn't want to admit to himself that he actually cares about her.

Colleen has been a little in love with Sage since she would listen to JD talk about him. The attraction took off the first time she met him, but she doesn't think he'd be interested in her. She's got a pretty low opinion of her looks, especially compared to the women he usually is with. His accusations about her inheritance make her mad, but she's willing to talk to him about his father and show him that he's wrong. Before long they're spending more time together and she's falling deeper in love with him. She knows that he has trust issues, but feels like she's making some progress in showing him that family and love are what's most important in life.

When things blow up in Sage's face, he has to decide if his fears are worth hanging on to or if it's finally time to let them go. I thought that Colleen handled things better than he did. She was hurt by what she heard, but she had the strength to stand up to Sage and tell him that she deserved better than what she had gotten from him. I loved the ending and seeing what a huge difference Colleen made in Sage once he finally let her in.

What a wonderful women’s love can do for a hurt brokenhearted man.
Once again the story of a-son and father’s misunderstanding destroyed their
Relationship because of hurt feelings and lack of communication.
Sage would not let anyone into his heart due to betrayal.
Thanks to the sparks with Colleen, he is able to unlock his closed heart and find happiness.
The mystery of the Lassiter’s secrets and betrayal of Angie will make this series interesting and exciting hopefully.

Length: 192 pages
Style: Contemporary Romance
Story: GOOD
Intimacy level: GOOD
Enjoyment: FAIR
Series: (Dynasties: The Lassiters #1)

The Black Sheep's Inheritance is a very nice read, too nice . There is nothing wrong with a nice read, but I felt that there wasn't enough conflict, nor, do I feel Sage was much of a black sheep.

Sage was, rich, down to earth and sexy and I enjoyed the connection he had with Colleen. When I first started reading, I got excited and I like their relationship and the way it was developing. However, after a while I felt it was too easy. When I think of black sheep, I think of the rebel of the family and the outsider, which then would make me think of a lot of conflict and maybe now and then a few intense scenes, but I think Sage was too nice of a guy. I think Sage's sister's story line was really interesting and there was more tension brewing there than with Sage.

Overall, a very nice read that will make you fall in love with the characters as their relationship together develops, however, the intensity could have been more.

THE BLACK SHEEP'S INHERITANCE is the second book the DYNASTIES: The Lassiters following, BEAUTY AND THE BEST MAN. I would recommend you read the first book before you start this one. It's not a must but I feel it will add to the experience. With that said, this is a well written story. I enjoyed watching events unfold for both Sage and Colleen. There is an event that starts in the first story, Beauty and the Best Man that continues to unfold within THE BLACK SHEEP'S INHERITANCE that while I understand it needs to take place does bother me a bit. Mostly because I hate to see it occur and know that I'll probably have to wait for the last book in the series to know how it all ends. So be prepared to want the next books in this multi-author series. I enjoyed Ms. Child's edition to this series very much. It's a believable story that left me smiling and wondering what will happen next. I highly recommend THE BLACK SHEEP'S INHERITANCE to fans of the Desire line, Ms. Child's work and to those who are looking a quick engaging read! You are sure to be happy!!

The story started when the matriarch of the family has passed on and his will has shaken up the entire family. The most unexpected one was that his nurse was bestowed with a sum of three millions. Colleen was surprised with the generosity of her boss but his son, Sage is not happy about it. He is convinced that Colleen has manipulated his father and he make it his point to find the truth. With the money, Colleen wants to send her mum and aunt for a cruise and to fulfil her dream of becoming nurse practitioners in the rural place. When Sage get to know her intention to visit the place, he offered his help and Colleen accepted as she feels that the time spent will help to change Sage’s opinion on her. I like Sage. He is a down to earth guy, had a good heart and is loyal to his siblings. I love the connection that he have with Colleen. Despite the strong title of the book, there wasn’t really any conflicts and turmoil in the development of their relationship. Overall, it makes the book nice, light quick read for me.

A great story from a powerhouse like Maureen Child, this has it all, a slightly brooding grumpy Alpha male, a semi naïve sweet heroine who has a secret backbone, then throw in a small misunderstanding and it’s an entertaining read.

This definitely hooked me into the Lassiter world, and I look forward to reading more of this family and their stories. I really liked Sage, he’s grumpy and a bit misguided but when he falls, he falls hard. Colleen is a bit naïve because she’s never lived in the mountains of Wyoming, and easily falls in love with the charming and helpful Sage Lassiter.

When things come to a head, and they have issues, I felt like they handled it well, and it was understandable and well done in such a way that I could believe that they could find their way back to each other. I do recommend this story, it has passion and a lot of heart.

The Black Sheep’s Inheritance was a nice, quick read. I liked both of the main characters. Colleen was a very kind and caring person; and, while Sage was a little rough around the edges, he had a good heart and was loyal to his siblings.

There really didn’t seem to be a lot of turmoil in Sage and Colleen’s relationship until close to the end. Although Sage was suspicious of Colleen in the beginning, it wasn’t a very deep suspicion. He really and truly knew that she was in fact a good person. The most turmoil and tension in the book surrounded Sage’s sister and her fiancé due to what was in J. D.’s will.

While this wasn’t the most amazing book, it was quite sweet. It also piqued my interest to continue reading Dynasties: The Lassiters to find out what happens to Sage’s sister.

The first book in the Dynasties: The Lassiters series definitely doesn't disappoint. Although there were a few things I thought could have been better, I really enjoyed this story & finished it quickly. I don't think I've ever read anything by Maureen Child that I didn't like. She knows how to tell a good story & this one is no exception! It exposed you to the family yet left you wanting, which is the perfect way to start a series. I wish that I had realized that Beauty & the Best Man was a prequel to the series because I would have read it first, but I do still plan on reading it soon!

This was an ok romance. Rich guy thinks nurse swindled money from his dying father. Rich overbearing man learns to love and stop hiding away alone. Sweet innocent nurse gets caught up in the whirlwind that is him. It's a story line I've read before. But this was a quick and easy read. Still delightful, but not as sexy as I would have preferred coming from Harlequin

The hero kept telling the heroine all the things she couldn't do because she was a city person (read: woman) so I was a little worried that this was going to turn into a misogynistic mess but it turned around at the end.

The Black Sheep's Inheritance is a quick read and neither amazing nor terrible. I could easily recommend it for someone who's looking for something quick and easy; the characters are likable enough, but again, it lacked a certain spark that would have taken it to the next level of romance.

The Lassiter's are the new family to have on your reading shelf. The family dynasty is full on with drama and intrigue, and building on to the family legacy left to them by the patriarch JD. With the love this dynasty will conquer all.

I read the prequel. I thought this one was a bit boring. I am glad I read it if only for the backstory for other books in the series.
