Another banger from the creators of Bug in a Rug. Crow effortlessly establishes himself as a big chiller who loves to hang, but then immediately steps up into the role of a hero when the situation calls for it. No spoilers but I was on the edge of my seat to see how the lake situation would pan out. Definitely a longer and higher stakes story than Bug in a Rug but executed to perfection.

Great winter read for preschoolers learning phonics.

After reading the book you can discuss with kids:

☝️ icebreakers - what they are and how they are used - try some out (duck duck goose / crow introduction game etc)
🪶crows
🦆birds in winter
❄️ snow / winter and seasons
🤲 Importance of helping others
⛸️ safety on ice and what to do in case ice breaks

You can also:
☃️ try to build a snow crow
❄️ cut some snowflakes
🌨️ make a snow from soda and hair conditioner for some fun sensory play
🧊 play with ice - freeze some small plastic crows or other small items in ice cubes or balloons filled with water / after try to break or melt them to find what’s hiding in the ice
🔤 find the words in story that rhyme and think of some other pairs
O - count how many letter O there are on every page or on the opened page
🔢 Count the crows in the book
✍🏻 Learn to draw a crow
🎨 Paint / colour or collage a crow or some winter scene
🧵do some crow crafts (from craft sticks / wine corks / foam cups / paper plates etc)

Happy reading! ☺️

Fun and quick read for bedtime with good rhyming. If I have to pick a book for bedtime these are more fun for me to read to my daughter because of the rhyming.

Maybe I'm expecting too much actual strict rhyming from these phonics books but again it had some not quite rhymes that jarred a little. But a good story.

Crow enjoys playing in the snow and saves the day after an accident occurs on the ice.

This picture book teaches the "o" sound and also uses rhyme, which helps teach phonological awareness.

This book is so cute and really easy to read. It's a perfect book for kids learning how to read and sound out words. I love the illustrations throughout it. They are colorful and really draw attention to the pages. My kids love this book and be warned it doesn't rhyme throughout the book. But this book is a great book to start reading on.
