Whispers
Some loves transcend time. Some loves were never meant to be. Some loves are cut short by the evil of others. When Sheriff James Tolbert and his fiancé were killed by a malicious rancher and his cutthroat minions, nobody could expect that the very passion that fueled their love would be the same passion that fueled ghostly revenge. When grave robbers unearth Sheriff Tolbert's tomb searching for Old West relics, a vengeful spirit is unleashed on a small Texas town hellbent on revenge. If those responsible couldn't be made to pay, then their progeny would, and they would pay in the most bloody and horrific manner the spirit could dream of. Can modern day law enforcement stop a spirit destined to fulfill an oath made in death? Even when aided by a Texas Ranger and UCLA Paranormal Investigators, how can they stop something that is already dead and buried?

This is a brilliant vengeful ghost story with loads of great characters and some laugh out loud moments.
I discovered Heath Stallcup's writing through his Monster Squad books, and this one's every bit as good. It has lots of twists and turns, a bit of romance and some very gory moments.
Roger and Casper, the grave-robbing comedy duo are classic.
I loved it!

NOTE: Violence and Rape Scenes
Whispers by Heath Stallcup richly proves that love is a strong emotion that knows no bounds. Neither does vengeance!
Sheriff James Tolbert and his beautiful fiancé are confronted by an evil, greedy rancher, the rancher’s son and their ranch hands. All who believe they are above the law. The fiancé dies a horrible death alongside Tolbert who is forced to watch her slow painful death. The evil doers take gratuitous violence to the extreme leaving Tolbert nearly in pieces.
Move ahead a few decades and meet the descendants of the evil doers all converging in the same location. Mix in a couple of grave robbers and one vengeful ghost and the police have their hands full trying to solve the brutal and seemingly unconnected murder cases that are popping up in abundance.
A cast of characters that include deputies, an ornery Sheriff, a constable, a history writer, a medium of sorts and a team of Ph.D. ghost busters, the descendants, and a couple of misfit drug taken grave robbers. Each character is fully developed as the story needs them to be allowing the story to flow through time and location easily.
It comes down to who will win – the vengeful spirit Sheriff Two Guns Tolbert or will the police and ghost busters put the kibosh on him before he gets his revenge? A couple of surprises throw the reader for a loop at the end.
Excellently written and vividly described in great details. Although the rape scenes were not vividly described, there is no doubt how vicious they were.
I felt myself rooting for Two Guns Tolbert but in the end … no, I still wanted him to win.
A long listen but one filled with twists and turns, action packed excitement and realistic characters. At one time in my life I was a paranormal researcher. Stallcup did an excellent job of researching thus making the haunting more real.
Stallcup is an author that knows how to tell a story!
This is a long audio but one that you will enjoy. A well deserved 5 Star rating.
Aaron Shook did an excellent job of narrating. Although I hated his whiney voice for a couple of the characters, he nailed each and every one of them!
No issues with production.

I am not usually a fan of horror books, but I was given the opportunity to try this one and I said, why not? I have to say I am so glad I did. This story is a love story masquerading as a ghostly revenge story. Well, that might be overstating it, but there is a very touching love story at the core, mixed with a great ghost revenge story. Very solid character building, an interesting plot that makes you want to keep reading, and a damn scary ghost! What more can you ask for in a ghost story. Lets just say that some people had it coming and get what they deserve. I recommend this for fans of dark fantasy and horror.

OK, that was a very fast 470 pages. Fantastic. I just have to point out one little tiny plot hiccup or logic issue, being careful about spoilers. There is a character who goes to the police to report that he was the victim of a home invasion and that he stabbed his attacker, possibly killing him. The police take his statement and his bloody clothing into evidence. But, oddly, never went to the crime scene or sent an ambulance to the crime scene to see about the injured/dead person or to corroborate the story.
