Author Biography Chuck Gleason “Collision Course” - “Fired Angels” Have we discovered a literary Grandpa Moses?
Author Chuck Gleason is eighty five years old and writing love stories at a prodigious rate. He started dating his wife, Janet, in 1945 when they were just fifteen. They were married in 1950 and are still in love sixty four years later! “Fired Angels,” Chuck’s second romance novel, has just been released. This book is a fun read, taking many twists and unexpected turns. The story concerns three teachers who start a Charter School in East Lansing, Michigan, where the Gleason’s lived for ten years. Both books are available at the University Book Store in Dahlonega, at Amazon.com. and at the Lumpkin County Library. Chuck achieved business success selling life insurance. Chuck’s speech, “Are You Running Your Business or is Your Business Running You?” has been delivered in twenty seven states and seven foreign countries. The couple retired to Dahlonega in 2003. Chuck began writing at age 80. After over 1200 rejections, he found Black Rose Writing who has published both of Chuck’s books. The first book, “Collision Course,” got fabulous reviews and was selected as a finalist in the Forward Reviews Romance book contest. They have two children, three grandchildren and one great grandchild. “If you marry your best friend you’ll have a wonderful life.”
I loved meeting the characters in Collision Course. When Keli and Lincoln meet for the first time in a Lit class, you automatically assume that nothing will ever really become of them because of the nature of the meeting. Lincoln can not keep his mind off of Keli, and of course, in the back of her mind she can not keep her thoughts off of him as well. A lot say that you will meet your one and only in college, but how true is that? Are these two really meant to make it after all the struggles that they go through in the four years before they graduate? Will they even stay in touch once they do graduate? All of these questions and more were floating around in my head as I stayed glued to the pages of Collision Course. All the tensions and “collisions” that the couple endures including “The Dragon Lady”, which is how they refer to Lincoln’s mother can not keep them apart.
Kelli is determined that she needs to get her first novel under her belt before she can even move forward and start thinking about settling down and a family. She really wants it to be Lincoln but keeps second guessing herself. I absolutely loved everything that they went through because it really shows the realness of any couple in college trying to make their own dreams come true as well as be with one another. There would be tons of spoilers here if I started listing all my favorite parts and moments. I don’t want to ruin this book for anyone because it is a little taste of heaven and reality at the same time for these two as they journey towards their destinies. Whether they make it out of everything together not is something you will just have to find out for yourself!
Disclosure: I received this book for my open and honest opinion. All thoughts are my own.
I wan't exactly sure if this was going to be a book for me. I haven't read a contemporary romance in years. However, something told me that I should read this one. Keli and Lincoln meet the first day of class in college. He is smitten with her at first glance. He wants to get her attention but he went about in the wrong way and it backfired. Sure, he got her attention but it left a very bad impression. Lincoln apologizes and they soon become friends. It takes a long time until Keli finally agrees to go on a date with him. However, during their four years of college they have many collisions and it starts to look like it may not work out. After college they go their separate ways and pursue their careers in literature. I love how Gleason writes about her struggle to get her book published and all the rejections she gets. Since I don't want to risk spoilers, I can't tell you any more so you will have to read it for yourself. I loved Chuck Gleason's writing style and character development. I really felt like I was in the middle of the story, experiencing it. There were a couple little things that seemed a bit dated to me but Gleason is an 85 year old man, I think that was to be expected and so minor. More endearing. I really loved Collision Course and highly recommend it!
How strong can a college romance be? How far will the love go? What happens when a guy decides he needs no woman other than the chosen one? Collision course is just a mixture of answers to all these questions. Read this book with the idea of how it would sound if your grandfather told you about his college romance?
The book is a love story with a happy ending. But it tries to create tension in between by the lot of ‘collisions’ between the two leads. Starting day one, the collisions range from joking comments to sarcasm turning sour to parents wreaking havoc, the couple faces it all. Thankfully, the guy’s persistence wins the girl over. End of Story. What is the story, you ask me?
Well, much like a set of scenes make a big movie, the individual incidents make the book. Though the fights are clichéd, the characters are relatable. This book would surely give you tips on how to handle your girl/ guy, the classic way. There is nothing else to say about the plot and the book. It is as simple as that!
WHAT I LIKED: The story made up of individual incidents.
WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER: There could be more spice in the story.
VERDICT: Read this book to know what your grandpa’s advice would be for your love life!
I absolutely adored this book. It was just a wonderful romance that felt kind of old-school but also very modern. The writing was unique and very smooth to read. This book tells the story of Keli & Lincoln. From their very first meeting, there was trouble. But you could always tell how much affection they had for each other and that no matter what happened... you would think they would find themselves with each other. Forever. Keli is a writer and does not want to commit to a relationship until she writes her very first Great American Novel. Lincoln is in love with her and has been since the first day he set eyes on her, but wants to give her the space she feels she needs to accomplish her goals.
Lots of things get in the way of their love... such as Lincoln's scary mother and Keli's ambition... will they ever end up together, the way that they belong?
This book made me smile. It was sweet and fun and kept me interested. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and I do believe that you will, too. I urge you to check it out
My thoughts: A truly remarkable book. Collision Course is unexpected in its intensity. The story is filled with well made, realistic characters that live within its pages. It is essentially a romance novel, but the message is so much more than that. This book is not only a love story, it is a story about values, friendship, family, honor and honesty, self worth, goals, desires, becoming a grown up and purpose. And of course love. The thing that makes this such a remarkable read is that the author shows the reader what all these look and feel like for the characters, while causing the reader to think about where they are and who represent those things in their own world.
The book reads easily and quickly, the story unfolding from of the pages and grabbing the reader. I enjoyed it.
I did like the general story this book told. Two college students who fall in love sounded like a good read to me. The romance between Lincoln and Keli was on and off so often, I couldn't keep track.
The writing was choppy, the dialogue was stiff and unrealistic. I don't know people who talk to each other the way this book was written.
Lincoln's mother had no redeeming characteristics. There wasn't any background to really know why his mother was such a difficult person, so you had no connection to her.
I have been a close family friend of Chuck and Janet Gleason since 1974. He has written a great story, and knowing him as well as I do, he has put his heart and soul into the art of writing, the art of storytelling, and at age 84, he has mastered the art of keeping up with current society. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know his characters.
