Lacey Chase knows love is a curse...it’s the reason she has sacrificed everything to stand by her father while he devotes all of his time and attention to finding her mother, who abandoned them years ago. After the search relocates them to a small, isolated community in Virginia, she finds herself in an unfamiliar world—but not completely alone as she believed. It's hate at first sight when she meets her cocky new neighbor, who refuses to take no for an answer...a response that becomes harder to give when Zane awakens a part of her she never knew existed.

Zane Nikolas knows something about curses...punished because of his ancestry, his very existence depends upon the consumption of human blood, an act which provides the only pleasure he is capable of experiencing. After discovering a single female residing nearby, he decides to add her to the group of women he regularly feeds upon—but finds her unreceptive to his advances. It's an unwelcome challenge that becomes a driving obsession when he realizes that Lacey alone is the gateway to a forbidden world...one filled with everything he's been denied.

WOW! This was a first reads book I won and I can not say wow enough! I'm now hooked on the author and dying for book two in the trilogy which will be "Let him go" coming out in 2014. Hopefully in the beginning of 2014.~~The book was well written and gives us a couple nice story lines in book keeping the reader always going.
I think Zane and Lacey are alike in many ways and oh so very different.
Sammy well how can you not love him.
As book goes on Zane wonders more on what's happening to him and who Lacey is. She has seemed to do things no human has done before and also something he can not sense from her which really ticks him off. It doesn't help that she also is not receptive to any of his advances.
Lacey has lived the same since age 13 until she comes to yet another town called Hermit then things start to change for her as well. She also isn't happy of changes starting to happen in her life as well.
Sammy was never happy with himself but because of events that have taken place now is beginning to like the new Sammy. Book one gives a great foundation of what's to possibly come ends on a cliffhanger and I can't say much more without spoiling which is hard in a review I highly recommend this book and give it a full 5 stars!

Purchased for my Kindle early this morning (I love lazy Saturday's spent only reading!) and enjoyed the book enough to order a paperback copy as well (because I know I won't be one of the lucky five who wins an autographed copy!). The characters are well-developed (I felt like I knew them personally), the story has an original twist and is intriguing (but also easy to follow), the vivid descriptions bring the world to life (I've visited many rural communities similar to Hermit). I've never been particularly fond of trilogies because the wait in between books is usually frustratingly long, so I BEG the author to have mercy on me and release book 2 SOON!

Visiting from your Facebook page! Got the ebook two days ago, husband and children kept me from reading it until this afternoon. I enjoyed it so much I had to return the ebook so I could order the paperback as I'm on a tight budget and couldn't afford both. Hope that doesn't upset you! I'm eager to continue reading about your fallen angel descendants and will just buy the paperback next time! :)

I loved that this wasn't a love or lust at first sight kinda story where the main characters see each other and think "this is the one" or start drooling. They weren't into each other in the beginning, Zane was just looking for another girl to feed on and Lacey was freaked out by him and wanted nothing to do with him. I'd say they disliked each other from the getgo. And they continue to not like each other throughout the book even when the physical attraction comes into play, which Zane goes with but Lacey tries to avoid. This new author likes to tease and we are given brief interactions between the two that are tense and hot. The cliffhanger ending left me screaming because I didn't want the book to end. I hope the second in the trilogy comes out soon!!!

I won this book from a Goodreads Giveaway.

I really enjoyed this book. It ended on a pretty good cliff hanger so I cannot wait to get the second book. I really loved the fact that it was not love at first sight for Lacey and Zane. In fact it was the complete opposite. Throughout the book the sexual tension between Lacey and Zane intensifies so I cannot wait to see what happens with these two in the next book.

A thoroughly good read. Beautifully written characters with huge back stories. I can't wait for the next book in the trilogy. The only reason I haven't given 5 stars is that I am left with so many questions that I felt could have been explained within this book without making us wait for the next. Hopefully the wait will be short.

I won an autographed book from the author. Thank you so much an sorry it took me so long to read it. Dealing with my son's unexpected death through me for a loop.

This book was a very good read. However, not thrilled that I have to wait for the next book to find out if Lackey an her really do move to another place an if Zane tracks her down while dealing with his brother and sister and blodbad. Plus I have a feeling that Lady's father, Clint does not stop searching for Ameila.
Thank you again.

Sex n blood n Zane, oh siggggh. Why can't I find a man that badass???? I luv my bf (always n 4ever Thumper Bunny) but he needs to take a few cues from Mr. Walking Hardon!!!! N his brother Sammy looks like Adam Lambert???? Sigggh again! I think he's gay too cause he keeps checking out Zane's summer sausage just like I would lol!!!! I really got into this story n I was happy that there wasn't no sissy vamps in it no drinking animal blood n stuff like that. Hope the second book comes out soon cause I can't wait to read more about the Nikolas brothers now that would be a yummy sandwich!!!!

Lacey moves to a small town. Since her father has moved them around a lot. I think 32 times, Lacey is a 21 year old high school student. Lacey's father, Clint, is obsessed with finding Lacey's mother after she them. Clint leaves Lacey home by herself a lot. In this new, small town, Lacey meets Zane. Lacey knows immediately the type of guy Zane is...a man whore who is used to getting his way. Zane is a vampire. Lacey rejects him but does not understand why she is also drawn to him. This is not an insta-love story between a vampire and human. The reader knows exactly what Zane does with the women he is with. Zane is not the sweet vampire who changes his ways after he meets Lacey. He kills with no remorse.

I think the way Zane handled women and killings is a way a true vampire. There is no remorse for anything Zane does.
It took me awhile to get used to Lacey. She is very moody and comes off as very b****y. However, I started to understand her. As the story progressed, I see why she was the way she was. However, I did not like the way she treated Sam. It was hurtful and I am glad that later she felt bad.

Odd things:
-There was a lot of talk of body fluids (bowel movements) When Zane's brother gets nervous, he...well it was disgusting to read about it. (page 50 & 241)
-Alexis is Zane and Sam's sister and it was weird how Alexis thinks about sinking her teeth into Zane in a very sexual way. (page 69)
-Lacey is obsessed with Burger King. After awhile I felt like I was reading an advertisement for Burger King. It actually made me sick reading about all the fast food Lacey was eating.
-Some of the verbiage was awkward.
-There was a bit too much information in a lot of parts of the story. I noticed that I started skimming. I do not need to know every action. "She had deliberately left the rest of her money to guard against being a total pig and ordering an Extra Value Meal plus dessert, which she was now regretting because vanilla and caramel sundae would definitely hit the spot." (page 128)

There is a lot of unanswered questions and I hope some are answered in book 2.
What happened to Amelia?
Who is this person in Zane's head?

It was weird, but I could not stop reading.

It's ok

The story building was slow and confusing. Once it got going you can sort of see what's happening. Ill read the next and see what develops .
