In comparison to other crazyquilt books, this book concentrates on various motifs and classes of motifs. The user must already know how to embroider as no stitches are included and must have some knowledge of embroidery techniques. Michler does cover tools, threads, motifs, techniques and transfer methods. The distinction of this book is in the ideas for motifs and the line drawings that can be converted into motifs for your own quilt. Michler also encourages the reader to draw their own motifs and provides some instruction in how to go about this. Surface embroidery, punch needle, applique, alphabets and most importantly some patterns for making the universal fans are included in this book. Good sources for silk threads and materials are also included. Recommended to serious crazy quilters with experience of embroidery and quilting.

Make your own bit of heavily embroidered Crazy Quilt! A good selection of traditional Crazy Quilt motif patterns ready-sized to use, and a basic tutorial of assembling the quilt pieces before embroidering. Does not contain any embroidery stitch tutorials, so if you're not knowledgeable on embroidery stitch techniques you'll want to check out that book too!

This is one of those weird books to rate. The designs look absolutely awesome, but I'd never in a million years take the time to do them.
If you're actually doing crazy quilts at this level, though, it's probably be a useful design book to collect.
