Experiencing Spirituality: Finding Meaning Through Storytelling

Rate this book
From the authors of contemporary classic The Spirituality of Imperfection   comes this long-awaited sequel.

A great master once said, “The shortest distance between a human being and truth is a story.” In Experiencing Spirituality , Ernest Kurtz and Katherine Ketcham take readers on a journey through storytelling as a means of self-discovery. Recounting and interpreting great wisdom stories from all ages and all cultures, as well as telling many of their own, the authors shed light on such experiences as awe, wonder, humor, confusion, and forgiveness.

In story after story, seekers look to those whose lives reveal a special quality—sometimes called spirituality—and ask the masters what they must do to attain that same quality. The answer is “Come, follow me, and see how I live.” Experiencing Spirituality teaches through the example of human experience.

I absolutely LOVE this book! I am sure that my friends are glad I have finished it bc I have been reading stories to them for the last 3 days from Experiencing Spirituality. I usually pass on books I finish reading, but this one I will read a few more times before it gets passed on! I also never write in books, but I shamelessly admit that I have made good use of my highlighter in this book! Thanks for a book with such insight and humor!

Stories are good

The stories in the book are great, but I wish they had more of an introduction as to why the story was used. I appreciate all of the work that went into the book though.

I didn't find this as engaging as the first, Spirituality of Imperfection. Couldn't get 1/2 way through it.

There were passages that really resonated with me, but there were more passages and stories that to me felt very cliche.

Like The Spirituality of Imperfection, its a positive, thoughtful expose that doesn't run foul with anyone's worldview. Bravo. I will read it again and quote from it often.
