A rom-com between a stoic monk in training vs the cutest girl in high school! Who will win in this heated battle of wills?
Mona Kawai has finally made up her mind. It’s Medaka her heart wants, and no matter what may stand in her way, it’s Medaka she will get! Step one in this updated game plan: take the target out on a heart-stopping date. Step two, check off as many “lovey-dovey couple” things as she can. But her rival, the talented Asahi, is not about to just sit back and let it happen. It’s time for all-out war, and no amount of subterfuge is off the table!
While I still feel like the setting for the series could’ve been in college, I’m glad that this volume toned it down on the fan service. Mona tricking Medaka into going on a date while also getting him a new phone, was very amusing to see play out. It was also interesting seeing her try to hide it from her friends, and fail at hiding it since she was extremely happy. I like that Asahi was still able to get her moments in with having a private study session with Medaka. Overall, I’m very glad this volume turned down the fan service and I’m curious about this school beauty contest going into this next volume.
very mild (almost none iirc?) fan service in this volume, more of a focus on medaka and mona's rather wholesome not-a-date. the little medaka-esque cat plushie was adorable!
the ending has asahi taking an infinitesimal step forward (though really, what progress did she really make with medaka...) and setting up for a beauty pageant next volume. her asking for medaka on the judge panel seems fairly obvious though?? lol!

The progression in the relationship is very slow but I’m appreciating it. She’s now head over heels and wants him, the elephant in the room of him being a monk is still there and with the way one of the chapters is set up I feel like they are going to retcon it. But besides that the series is very good for what it is!
