In the vast unexplored regions of America exists a living breathing reminder of prehistoric days. He has several names: "Giant Hairy Ape," "Bigfoot," and "Sasquatch." He is the counterpart of the Himalayan "Yeti" or "Abominable Snowman."
Yes, there does exist an American Abominable Snowman; he is not a myth or a hoax.
Come with me as we seek out the facts about this twentieth century mystery. Come with me as we travel a rugged road into the unknown — a road that will take us from the campfires of Indians and mountain men to the pages of a modern newspaper — a road so charged with excitement and steeped in mystery that you'll never forget one exciting mile of the journey.

“Membership in the skeptical faction or tendency is not at all a soft option… To be an unbeliever is not to be merely ‘open-minded.’ It is, rather, a decisive admission of uncertainty…” Christopher Hitchens, 2010
Chances are this publication is now long Out-Of-Print (published in 1966, and even before Patterson took that now famous Bigfoot film clip), but pretty much the entire book is taken up with reprinted newspaper/magazine articles mostly all restating certain circumstances, persons, and situations; though, there are a few tales I've never heard of before (and some that should have been further elaborated upon: for example, Jacko, a young one that was captured almost 100 years ago).
The idea of these 'creatures' out among the still remote wilds of Western North America, from Northern California up into the province of British Columbia, is not far fetched as one would imagine. Even in the vast area of Russia's Siberia, they have been seen.
I live in one of the areas in British Columbia and do know there have been sightings within this region of Canada. Belfour, north of Nelson has always been a hotspot. Nakusp is another. Within the Selkirk Mountain range. I have seen one myself when a teenager. It happened so quickly (just a fleeting glance) yet I can't explain it otherwise. Happened around dusk and the light was fading fast. Large and dark brown. Stood somewhat upright with a slight stoop as like leaning a bit forward. What I mostly recall was that when it swung its arms, the hands were lower down below past the knee-caps like an ape.
Nevertheless, if you can find this book somewhere and you'd like to learn more about Sasquatches/Bigfoot... Then again, this is Patterson's first book and I'm sure he's published a few more after this one.
These creatures truly are out there hiding in the wilderness.
I have a really hard time leaving a negative review. But this book was incredibly boring. However, it was very accurate and something I will probably refer to as I become more comfortable with explaining and debating Bigfoot. It has made my opinion more credible so I guess it’s a win… but it went on and on and on to confirm similar claims.
