FINALLY! Finally, I've finished the Walk of Time trilogy. They were books read to me by my 3rd grade teacher and they left a lifelong impression on me; giving me a mysterious feeling that has never left. I just finished this one, and I loved it. I was pretty shocked at some of the things that happened, didn't really recall it being such a dark book at times, but it just added to the feel of living in such rural times. The ending was great. The author gave you a sense of closure while leaving the possibility of the story continuing on (although by now that's not going to happen, sadly) Sigh...it's weird that I feel sad it's over lol. Great story to read, I'll for sure be reading these to my kids later in life.
If visiting any of the ruins in Hopi territory with young adults, I'd definitely bring this book for shared reading. Vick introduces Hopi history and culture, while telling an engaging tale. At another level, she illustrates many positive character traits: honor, kindness, self-discipline, tradition, good vs evil ... without sounding preachy. And, in this day and age, I appreciate a story that shows people living happily with very little in the way of material goods. Book 2 of 3.
