Tiny Quest: Starring Princess Sassafras

Rate this book
One morning, Princess Sassafras wakes up to find all the Knights in the Kingdom missing! Obviously, it is up to her to save them. Tiny Quest might be small in size but is a tale of grand proportions as she ventures forth to save the day (and the knights, of course)!

I loved everything about Tiny Quest. It's a little story perfectly written with adequate snark, whimsy, and requisite fairy tale sculpting. I'd say the only thing that could have been better would have been if it were longer, but that would defeat the point, now wouldn't it?

Tiny quest is an short story by Chooseomatic's Matt Youngmark, and it is worth ¢99 I suppose. It's kinda fun, while it lasts, but it only has one ending, isn't creative even by feminist princess stories, and has no real clear audience.
This book is predicated upon what I like to call Baby's First Feminism, and it's the most obvious kind, too. It's a princess who is very intelligent and smart who has to save Dudes That Just Don't Get It from the challenges they undertook trying to woo her. Very obvious storyline. She proves herself very smart, and also able to swear a lot and be unladylike. SPOILERS! at the end, she says, I don't want to marry a knight- I'll decide who I marry! Wow! Nobody would have seen that coming.
Now, this would've been fine were it a children's book, but it's over the heads of most kids, wouldn't really be picked up by them, and has some passages that make it seem inappropriate for children that young. If it's for adults, it should've veered more towards the cynical, and less to Baby's First Feminism, giving us a more conflicted female lead who maybe doesn't pal around with unicorns. We know girls can be smart too. We know that boys can be dumb. Bumped up to 2 stars because there are some solid jokes, but, all in all? Seemed like a waste of time, although I'm sure the woman Matt wrote it for as a birthday gift enjoyed it. Ten again, I got it free at a con, so who am I to complain?

Cute little book. No, really, it's only a couple inches on each side, and 20 some odd pages long. But it's an adorable read, especially for a young girl. A bit like a fairy tale book about a young princess rescuing knights who get into trouble while trying to win her hand.

Some parents might not like the part where she takes part in a drinking contest, but I thought it was well handled. As pointed out in the story, the drinking age isn't the same everywhere, and if you handle your drinking well then you don't have to get drunk.

This was a delightful little book, but I'm not sure who the intended audience is. It seems adorably child-centered until about two thirds of the way through, when Princess Sassafrass engages a gnome in a drinking contest. While the drinking contest was handled in a tactful way, I'm not sure it matches the childlike themes of the rest of the book.

Epic and hilarious. This has to be one of the cutest, tiny little stories I've read in a long time! We picked it up at Q-Z Con and it is witty, interactive (in a mad libs sort of way), and all around good fun. A perfect Princess Party Favor, or stocking stuffer or just quick Sunday read :)

Very short but very cute. Some mildly amusing culture references like Sir Broseph who calls everyone dude. I wasn't a total fan of Sassafrass, but it was probably because a story this short means it's likely that all characters will be characterizations.
