Won through LibraryThing's early reviewers. Let me start out by saying I am a native Ohioan. I have been hiking most of these trails (especially the ones in NE Ohio) my whole life.
I was pretty impressed with this book. It offers a lot of really great information on each hike and the adjacent area. Each hike is intended as a day-hike but most could certainly be extended. The hikes are each rated on difficulty on a scale of 1-5 boots with 5 boots being most difficult. In my opinion, a hike that is 90% boardwalk and handicap accessible should not be rated 2 boot difficulty. Perhaps the book is geared toward people who are not avid hikers? My other concern is regarding the maps. I grew up 10 minutes from West Branch State Park and the map indicates two towns that I have never heard of, Augerburg and Campbellsport. If someone from out of town stopped and asked me directions referencing one of these town, I could not help them. This makes me question the information on the rest of the maps throughout the book.
I especially like the chart in the front of the book that has a quick overview of each park's amenities, trail names, distance, difficulty and landscape. This makes it easy to choose a destination at a glance. Overall I think this book is a great reference for anyone who enjoys hiking.

I received this book from the goodreads first reads program.

The layout of this book makes it easy to follow and easy to choose the right hike for you. There is an overview of the general statistics for each trail (distance, difficulty, terrain). Also a well written description of each hike. Each description includes some history, hiking directions, foilage, and views. There is contact information, lodging opportunities, and facility locations listed for each hike as well.

I do feel that there are some trails that were overlooked in this book. I am from the Northeast and know that some of the places my family frequents are not contained with these pages. Overall this book is a great tool for hiking Ohioans to use. I know that I have some new hiking plans.

Hiking Ohio was well-organized, accurate as far as my experience with Ohio trails (northwest/central Ohio), and a solid jumping off point for planning a hike. Overall, my two biggest complaints were the size of the book (extra weight in backpack) and its lack of color - the entire book was in black and white, including maps and trail shots. However, I really appreciated the difficulty ratings, detailed descriptions, and the "Other Areas of Interest" section. Recommended to those looking to hike scenic Ohio.

Received ARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway. It's not particularly interesting or exciting. It just lists different hiking trails and locations.

A fairly good sampling of Ohio's best day hiking trails with decent descriptions. This is a "best of" collection," so you can explore only a few areas in the state with much depth via this guide.
