Experience the tale of Martel the reluctant fire mage in the Firebrand LitRPG Series.
Join him from his humble beginnings as a hapless novice at a Magic Academy. This is character-focused and light-hearted progression fantasy at its finest, with a detailed magic system and a world filled with detail.
Martel is fire touched. Fire magic comes easy for him and he is powerful with it. However, he wants to hide this since a fire mage will be forced to become a battle mage. He wants to help people, not kill them. He is underestimated and ends up having to fight but his fire power leaks through to help him overpower opponents. I like the action, intrigue, and romance. I look forward to the next book.
Book 2 definitely continues to deliver on the promise of the first book by keeping the same pacing. That pacing is odd with short chapters delivered rapidly but it works for me and had me unable to put the book down. I do wish there was more, but it’s hard to fault a book for making me feel that.
I’d strongly recommend for fans of magic academies and/or slice of life. Fans of Mage Errant or The Wandering Inn would enjoy.
Firebrand Book 2: The Fire-Touched is an excellent follow-up to the first book. It continues the story of Martel as he completes his first year at the Lyceum, hoping that by the end of it, he'll finally pass the novice stage and become an acolyte like the others his age. As this is the second book Martel has become more comfortable at the school and with the surrounding city and I also enjoyed sinking comfortably back into this well-built world with Martel. I enjoyed this second installment almost more than I did the first.
Martel's characterization is consistent with the first one, and he continues to get himself into tough situations and put himself into danger to help others, but by now he has his feet under him a bit more and is better able to handle the situations he gets into - and pick out friends from foes from people who are trying to use him. There's lots of great character work not only for Martel, but also some of the side-characters.
In terms of his magical education and spells, I would say he learns a lot more from his own adventures than his actual classes in this book, but either way there's a steady progression of interesting magic use and spells, and even lore about Morcaster, the Lyceum, and their history to go with it. In book 1 I found it at times a little slow when he was going about his daily routines, but in this book I think those routines were better integrated into the overall plotlines and motivations that he had and I thought the pace was a bit better. Or perhaps now that I know it myself, I'm just more invested overall. I certainly want to know what's in store for Martel and his friends and even the Empire in general.
I'll definitely be excited to dive back into this world with the third book once I get the chance. If you haven't checked out the first book, start there first, but if you have, you're sure to enjoy this second book!
Where do I start? So the story is decent? The protagonist is not he's one of those whiny woe is me. I'm not going to hurt this man who just tried to kill me seven times types. He's basically trying to hide this whole secret but constantly doing s*** to expose it. Also the first book was about 8 months which was fine. This one was only four that is not kosher. Very very disappointed with this book and the lack of wisdom the protagonist displays.
Firebrand the second book in the series is basically a continuation of the story. There's some reveals, some reafirmations, and even a friendship mended (good, glad to see that one). It's not a bad story, but you can't just grab this one and read it without having read the first one, it won't make a whole lot of sense. But, if you like fantasy stories, especially ones related to magic, this should suit you just fine.
A wonderful sequel to a great series. The first book was amazing but the second book topped it! This book was full of everything I love about fantasy and magic schools! This book was full of drama, suspense, and wonderful magic! Martel is a great main character and his interaction in the book. Eleanor and Max are great chapters as well. I also liked the world building!
I really liked this series. It is well written and has a lot of twist and turns. Honestly it is one of the best boy hiding his power stories I have read.
