Doreen Roberts Hight is the best-selling author of sixty-plus books which have sold all over the world.  You can find her on Facebook, Pinterest, Goodreads and various review sites.  Her upstairs/downstairs mystery series featuring the Pennyfoot Hotel will release the 20th book in the series in November.

I was born in England, shortly before the outbreak of WW II. (Yes, I really was!) I spent the war years in London, spending most of my time between school and air raid shelters. When things got a little noisy outside the shelters, and everyone was too scared to sing, I'd get up and start telling a story, making it up as I went along. Before long word got around, and I was asked to entertain on a regular basis. Thus the storyteller was born.

It was many, many years, however before I actually saw my stories in print. My first publishing effort was a letter to the children's page of a British national newspaper. It described how our cat would thrust one paw through the letter box in our front door and hit the doorknocker with the other paw. When we opened the door the cat walked in. It was months before any of us realized why no one was at the door when we answered it. Anyway, I was eight years old and I got paid for the letter. My first sale!

The second came nearly fifty years later. (I'm a late bloomer.) In between I enjoyed a short career on the stage as one half of a sister act, until I emigrated to the United States. That put pay to my stage career, but I kept my hand in by playing piano and singing at a local English-style pub every month on British Night. I worked as a receptionist, accountant, office manager, executive secretary and for a change of pace, a salad maker in a restaurant.  I actually worked with the first prototype computer.  It took up the entire room, with tapes almost as big as me.  The noise of all those wheels whirring around was distracting. How far we've come in such a short time.

My son was born in 1968, and during the first few months of his life I stayed home and renewed my interest in writing. The first manuscript I had the nerve to submit was accepted by Silhouette Books in 1987, and my new career began.

I wrote my first book on a typewriter. I often say that if computers hadn't been invented, I would not be a writer today. As it was, graduating to a computer changed my life. Back then, comparatively few people had access to a chat room. Those who did were usually savvy computer types, business people and writers. With my thirty year marriage breaking up, the chat rooms became salvation. I found companionship, friendship and eventually love.

He lived on the east coast, I lived on the west. That was in 1993, when computer time was charged by the minute. When our computer and phone bills added up to $1500 a month, we decided it would be cheaper to get together. We met for the first time at the airport in Portland, Oregon, and the next day drove across the country to Philadelphia. I had to call my sister and close friends every night to reassure them that I wasn't with an axe murderer. A year later we were married in Las Vegas on our way back to Oregon, where we've lived happily ever since. Now, how's that for romance!

A Very Pregnant New Year's by Doreen Roberts had an annoying heroine.
Anne Parker is the eldest sibling, and since childhood she has give way too importance to the feud her family had with the Irvings, acting stuck-up with Brad, who is her age and an Irving. She has this superiority complex going and it continues well into adulthood.

She is planning to move back into town after she called of her wedding with her cheating fiancee and start her own architect business, she goes skiing with her family and runs into Brad, and still acts like that juvenile person. Brad is a lawyer and wants nothing to do with the stupid feud which drove his father. Brad and Anne are stranded together with after an avalanche. Anne was irritating, she was so ungrateful even after Brad saved her life and such a judgmental snob. She believes whatever tales people tell about Brad and his womanizing and is such a baby, hiding the truth from her family, who were honestly irritating as hell.

She blew hot and cold, herself called Brad when she needed legal advice then tried to brush him aside. Brad would have been better without her and then of course as the title suggests she gets knocked up and acts more foolishly.

I WAS ABSOLUTELY OBSESSED WITH THIS BOOK!

I stumbled upon this gem when I was thirteen years old. My cousin lent me one of her novels, and as I was flipping through the pages, I noticed a promotion for this book at the end. Intrigued, I read an excerpt and instantly became captivated. From that moment on, all I wanted was to read it. However, it took me a whopping six years to finally get my hands on it. When I finally did, I couldn't help but shed tears of joy. The journey to find this book had been a struggle, but it was well worth it.

Once I started reading, my anticipation only grew with each page turned. And let me tell you, I was not disappointed. The character of Anne was remarkable. She possessed a tough and independent spirit that instantly resonated with me. And then there was Brad, who exuded charm in every scene.

The plot of this novel completely blew my mind. It was fascinating how the characters chose to love each other despite the longstanding feud between their families. It served as a powerful reminder that love has the ability to mend even the deepest rifts. I can only hope that someone turns this incredible story into a holiday movie, capturing every detail perfectly.

Overall, I can't recommend this book enough. It's a true masterpiece that left me utterly obsessed.

This is the kind of book that gets better the more you read it. At the beginning, I was rolling my eyes at some of the things that Anne, and brad thought of the other. The Parker, and Irving families have been in a feud over a piece of land for generations. The kids, and grandkids were brought up not to like anyone from the other family.

Anne was caught up in an avalanche. The suspense of Anne being all alone after avalanche was really good. It took awhile for Brad to find her, and save her. Afterwards they found shelter in a old cabin. During the next two days, sparks flew. Sparks from words being tossed out, to sparks of passion being shared. The two were really funny, and entertaining while they had to find a way to live under the same roof to survive.

When the rescue squad showed up, I almost put the book down. Anne father was rude to Brad, when he found out he had shared a cabin with his daughter. Anne explained that Brad had saved her life. Her father didn't thank him for saving his daughter's life. Instead he said something rude about the Irving family.

I'm glad I didn't put the book down. It did get better, and the ending was really good. I'm only rating this book a 3, because Anne did not have a back bone. She went back and forth on her thoughts too much.
