Robert Trenton aka Troy Red aka Jack Evans is an ex-assassin, or some prefer the term hit man. He’s killed for all types of people, and he hasn’t thought twice about his profession until something cataclysmic happens. In his rage, he goes to the police in an attempt to find his sister and niece’s killer and promises to spill his entire life story, including the names of the people who have hired him.

Robert Grant lets his farm be used as a safe house for criminals entered into the witness protection program. In most cases, his daughter stays away from his home while he’s harboring a witness, but this time she can’t seem to stay away. Cassidy’s growing interest in Troy may be short lived when she finds out just how far Troy is willing to go to keep the ones he loves safe.

Is it possible for a man to change, and can the woman that loves him take him for the man he has become? Or will his past interfere with the future he so desperately craves?

Assassin by Nadene Seiters was a surprising book. The title alone intrigued me. As I read the blurb for the book I was even more intrigued and had to buy this book. With so many fabulous releases coming out it got put on the back burner. After reading another incredible new release that had my blood boiling I was in the mood for another intense read. This book did not disappoint.

Assassin is an interesting book. It is written from the assassin's POV. The reader gets into the mind of a cold blooded killer. The reader gets to see the motivation that spurred Robert Trenton into his chosen profession. We get to see the repercussions that his chosen profession has on his life. We may be a cold blooded killer but he pays a high price for his actions.

Robert Trenton has turned over evidence, chosen to leave his profession, and is now in the witness protection program. He is now Troy Red. The FBI hides him on a small farm to await his testimony in a high profile case. Robert Trenton has never been out of the city. He has never been around animals. He has never lived a simple life. It is an eye opening experience. It is a once in a life time experience. He finds love...the one thing he has never experienced in his life. But he knows his time and maybe his life is limited to a few weeks. What he experiences in those two weeks will mold the destiny of the rest of his life.

Assassin was a very edgy read. I highly recommend the book

The author uses mixed POV's on the same page. I found it confusing to follow. At one point Grant is thinking back on a phone conversation he had about Troy and even in that it says 'Grant tries to loosen his grip on the receiver as he sits down on one of the kitchen chairs'..this is a conversation he is remembering in his thoughts so that didn't make sense. It's all past tense, first person, third person. It's all over the place and very confusing.

As for the storyline. At first I didn't like Troy at all but maybe that's the writer's intention. We're meant to think of him as the 'bad boy'. Later his personality changes. At times he read as older (he's in his 20's) then at other times he reads as a young kid especially when the author describes him 'skip hopping' to the front door!. Another time he uses the phrase 'although may hap if he had been around more women's fathers'. May hap? I felt like I was reading an Amish novel.

Not my cup of tea at all.

I liked it initially, I mean, i paid for it, right? But things went seriously downhill in the latter part of the book. He's in the witness protection program and doesnt use a condom. She gets pregnant with triplets after 1 night, ( if I recall my obgyn training correctly chance of spont conception per cycle is 15%, incidence of triplets is 1/80x1/80, so we're talking a pretty remote possibilty here). Then, none of the triplets need much newborn assistance! Wtf? Average gestation for triplets is 32 weeks so we are talking a month in special care if not neonatal intensive care. If you wanna know how I know, I'm happy to link my published paper on a decade of triplet outcomes in the hospital I trained at.
Then we sorta skip a chapter as he's suddenly a prisoner, then able to miraculously escape chains despite torture, and can unerringly find a gun in the dark and take out three people. And he's not that much of a hitman, only nine kills, so really???
If you really want to read about a hitman, read Last Hit

There, rant over.
