Cicily Chase can't stand the idea of spending her last summer before college in a cramped office. But that's exactly where she'll be, as summer intern at a stuffy investment firm.
Caden Williams is brilliant, gorgeous, and much older. Not to mention that he's Cicily's boss, and very, very taken. A relationship between them can't happen.
But some things are simply unavoidable. Soon, they're both in hot water, and they might not be able to escape before it's over their heads.
Callie Sparks writes for the hell of it. An office drudge by day, she alternates her time on the east and west coasts, where she’s planning more stories involving the characters introduced in Hot Water, and having way too much fun messing with fictional peoples’ lives.
For Cicily Chase, this summer should be her last hurrah, a time to party, surf, and enjoy life before having to go to college and be a 'grown-up.' The last place she wants to spend her time is as an intern at Williams and Williams, the stuffy office where her mother has worked for as long as Cicily can remember. Caden Williams seems to have the perfect life: smart, rich, sexy, and heir to the throne at Williams and Williams. He's got it all and then some.
I love a book that grabs me from the very beginning, that gets my attention and interest and doesn't let go. I loved everything about 'Hot Water,' and I mean every little thing. The characters are likable, even when they aren't. They're human, and emotional, and just as confused about the way life unfolds and surprises them as I am in my life. I am a fan of the May-December romance scenario, but it isn't always done well. The guy can come off as, well, a pervert, and the girl as just too pure to be believable. Cassie Sparks, though, has done a terrific job of writing her main couple in Caden and Cicily, and watching them navigate their lives and their relationship is truly enjoyable. I found myself laughing out loud throughout this book, which is always a huge bonus for me.
I obviously couldn't recommend this book, author, and evolving series more. I give 'Hot Water' a heartfelt 4+ stars, and really look forward to more books about this group of characters. And, Rhys, the guy that I loved to hate in 'Hot Water'? He's due to get his in 'Playing With Fire,' out now. Do yourself a favor and give these books a read; you will not be sorry.
I was in love and out of love with this book. I really don't know if I want to give it a 3.5 or 4 star rating.
Let's start with what I did like. I loved Caden's character. He's the right balance of sexy and angry. He's stuck in a relationship with someone who cheated on him with his best friend but stays because of family obligation. He really gets the raw end of the deal in his life. His whole family, except for his father, is dead, due to events he feels he caused. And his father absolutely despises him. He's always been a complete screw up and his father always had to clean up his messes. He's pretty much alone and has no one that he can confide in. Cicily becomes that person for him. She makes him realize that outer appearances mean nothing. Sometimes, in life, you just have to let the chips fall where they may and live your life for you, regardless of what other's think or want. When he stood up to the board and Rhys at the end, I had the biggest grin on my face. BRAVO!!
I liked the build up to Caden and Cicily's relationship. The author hit the nail on the head with this whole forbidden romance thing. And in spite of that, they still couldn't control what happened when they were together. Caden could really be the sweetest person and he said some of the cheesiest things, but I still liked him.
It definitely needs some editing. The events that took place didn't always flow. Sometimes, it was hard for me to follow because of this and I'd have to go back a few paragraphs and read it again to make sure I didn't miss something.
Also, at times the characters were immature and unbelievable. Even I can admit when events and happenings are impossible or beyond belief and that happened several times throughout the book. Specifically with Cicily. An example, she punched her best friend in the face while drunk because she didn't want to go home from the bar. She just wanted to get in a limo with a bunch of strange, old men and act like a trashy whore. I think with Cicily's character, she was trying to be someone she wasn't, but she also still had this naivety about her that made people think she was sweet and innocent. And I can't for the life of me figure out how her age wasn't discovered sooner than it was. I just didn't get Cicily. And because of that, because I couldn't relate or even sympathize with her most of the time, I just didn't like her.
But now wait, I did like her when she was herself. When she wasn't putting on this mask or trying to be someone she wasn't. The only time I ever saw her like that was when she was with her father and out on the water surfing. No worries or cares. She could just be. That Cicily, I liked.
See, there are more negatives than positives, but something about this book just...ugh? I don't know. I got caught up in it and the characters and their happy ending and that's why I'm so on the fence with the rating. Sometimes, you read a book, and no matter how much you find at fault, something about the book just gets to you.
This story had some potential but to me it fell a little flat on the execution of how the story played out since the flow seemed slightly off. Then add in the characters immaturity... The author was right on with the Taboo part of it. Overall I can honestly rate this book between 3.5 and 4 stars...
Loved this book! The writing was great--really powerful--and both main characters were realistic, and they had flaws! A fun romantic read--highly recommended.
Hot Water is the debut New Adult novel by Callie Sparks. It is a light, fun, romantic read that I easily devoured in the course of one sitting.
Cicely Chase has just graduated high school and would prefer to spend her summer riding waves with her best friend, Rainbow, and hanging out with her father - a kindred free spirit. Instead, she has committed to a corporate internship at her mother's employer, which she is not happy about.
On her last night of freedom, Cicely finds herself in a reckless position. After being dumped by her one and only serious boyfriend, she heads out for a night on the town with Rainbow. Later that night, she is half-naked and seated on the floor of a limo, surrounded by hot, older men. This is the first time she's ever been drunk and she's playing a made-up drinking game called Sex Master designed to get her as naked as possible. Fortunately, not all the men in the limo are just out for a one-night-stand, so Cicely makes it home safe and sound by morning. A day or so later, she says her goodbyes to the surf and sand, and starts her internship at Williams & Williams.
Caden Williams is a titan of business and picture of perfection, both in and out of the office. He's had his share of tragedy, but he's turned that around by getting his act together in the boardroom and at home. He is engaged to the perfect woman and is three weeks away from his wedding when he crosses paths with Cicely Chase at Club Tangerine. He doesn't think anything of it until he runs into her at the office Monday morning.
What ensues next is a playful and flirtatious romance both are equally resistant to for different reasons. Will Caden and Cicely finally stop living their lives for other people long enough to find the happiness and love they crave? I suggest reading Hot Water to find out!
I found Hot Water very light-hearted and fun. It wasn't weighed down by intense emotional turmoil, which I've found can be too heavy in other New Adult novels. Instead, we have believable characters who are struggling with realistic and normal conflicts, both internally and externally. The tight-plotting and alternating viewpoints keep the novel pushing forward towards the end, which made Hot Water a very fast read for me.
The back stories of both characters are clear, and they are divulged organically. Nothing comes out of the shadows and clunks you on the head, which is a very good thing. I think sometimes New Adult books can have a soap opera feel, especially when the content gets too dark, but that is not a problem in Hot Water. The book is 100% relatable, the characters are potentially people I know, and I loved the ending.
If you're looking for something sexy and fun to read this summer, I definitely recommend Hot Water.
I was asked by a friend to read the new novel from Callie Sparks, Hot Water, in exchange for an honest review. Having never heard of Hot Water, I went straight to my computer to find the synopsis. But Amazon took me further offering a preview of the first three chapters which pretty quickly pulled me in making me want to read the entire story.
Cicily Chase is like her father. A free spirit who’d much rather spend her days surfing and enjoying the sun. But when her mother arranges for her to spend her last free summer before going off to college working an internship in the office in which she works, Cicily decides to make the best of it hoping to make her mother happy.
Caden Williams is known to be the most eligible bachelor in the city and appears to have everything anyone could want. Though he’s never wanted for material things, he’s always felt his life was mapped out before him by his father who always expected Caden to say and do the proper thing and never show emotion.
But one evening he unexpectedly meets a young, beautiful and carefree woman with whom he feels a comfort which he has never known, making him feel he can say anything to her without having to be on guard. Although they share one mind-blowing kiss, they both know they will never see each other again. But when Cicily unexpectedly shows up at Caden’s office to work the summer intern program, his attraction to her seemingly untroubled life and free spirit continues to grow. As they spend time working together they both begin to realize the connection they felt when they first met may be something neither of them can ignore.
This was an enjoyable and entertaining read. The chemistry between Cicily and Caden is undeniable and definitely hot and steamy. Both Cicily and Caden are very likeable characters. I always know it's a good sign when I read a story and it continues to replay it in my head even after putting my Kindle down, and such was the case with Hot Water. Upon reaching the end of the book, I found myself sad it was over and wanting more of their story.
This one is a love story between a girl and a man. Should i call him by man because he is older with job, responsibilities and also a kind of public figured? And call her a girl because she was barely 19 fresh out of school. How could two peoples like them be together. Lust, fantasy, perversion or nearly pedophile? When I read this book and the first few chapters, it could be it any of it. Break the steam or else too. but it was different. Reallu the girl is young she doesn't know what she wanted and stated it but said "i don't know but i know who i am" so we are who we are even when we age. So keeping going it was a great contrast with Cade 19 years old. She could be 19 but not like him. As for the man, it wasn't lust maybe a lot of attraction but beyond attraction was feeling genuine. He wasn't anything, he walked through the virtual path but with her she understood him somehow knew. But more than anything made him accept things like emotion and what right or wrong. And made him feel what real would made him happy to be good. And in one point, her love for him was selfless because she loved him to the point of caring for him, what good for him. she was worried to betray him because she understood him so well. can i blame her not telling him. She just wanted to have that string until one day. Somehow age was inconsequential when both have their feeling so ground so real. it wasn't like she was a foolish she wanted some fun. I can't wait to read about Rhys, jealousy could very far but friendship? hope there is some good part in him because i don't think Caden would screw him up.
Hmmm.... I have to say I did not expect the ending.... I hate Andrea that fucking ice bitch and I don't like Rhy. He's a dick. He came from nothing an worked up to be something but he was never grateful for how the Caden Williams took care of him. His best friend, whom he betrayed. How you can get me to like him is gonna be hard. I don't even want to read his story. I don't give a flying fuck about people who only want to get ahead.
Caden has been beating himself up for all his fuckery. The thing is not everything is his fault. His dad is a self absorbed dick. It's a good thing he had money because his company was taken away from him. Who became CEO, I'm actually scared to find out.
I really didn't know what to expect when I got this book, but I was definitely not disappointed! This was an impulse buy and I sat and read it straight through last night! =) The main problem I had was that the author did not disclose important/relevant information earlier on in the story. But, I got over it!
I adored Cicily (h)!
Such an unexpected and delightful surprise. Very pleased with my purchase...no buyer's remorse!!! ♥
Really awful. Written by someone that knows nothing about the exciting world of finance. Sorry, but there really is no "good' and "bad" in investing. You always help one group of people, and always hurt another group of people with every move. Even insider trading isn't really forbidden because it hurts anyone. Its just an attempt to level the very un level playing field. As for the romance...whatever. Just a typical midlife crisis with a younger, but legal aged, girlie. It happens all the time.
What I love most about this series is that you get attached to the characters and always want to know more. You start reading and dont want to stop! I laughed out loud several times in this book! I love the plot and the added intimacy is a bonus. No start kissing and the bedroom door shuts and next chapter new day. We definitely get to see the passion flair between Cicily and Caden! If you like passion in a good story with great characters this a must read. 4 books so far in this series, all of them a must read.
Great read. I just happened to come across this on my suggested readings through OverDrive. Anyway, I am happy I did check it out. Cecily is awesome. I mean it, she is just awesome. She isn't a puss, she knows what's she's worth, and she has a huge heart. Caden is pretty hot. The age difference isn't gross. There wasn't anything pervy about it at all. It is actually a coming of age story for an older man who has always tried to live up to everyone else's expectations, but his own who falls in love with a young woman who shows him what really matters in life.
It was my first time reading one of Callie Sparks books and I am now a fan. I loved Caden and Cicily's love story. It was interesting seeing how the characters relationship evolved from their first encounter (which may I say a very interesting one) to the very end. Age?! Does it matter when two people really get one another and bring out the best in each other? Would love to see more of Caden and Cicily and where they go from here.
Hot, hot, hot!!! This book is an 18+ adult novel that had me from page 1 to the very end. It is a very romantic, sexy story that has you in gulfed so deeply you won't be able to put it down. So, so GOOD! Highly recommend this book, and please check out this new author Callie Sparks, this is her first book and I can't wait to dive into her next book, Playing with Fire.
A quick and fun read. I enjoyed Cicily's antics and grew to like Caden. This was a different kind of read for me with Caden being older and already in a relationship. Watching these two circle one another as their chemistry intensified certainly held my interest until their romance took off. Would definitely want to read more by Callie Sparks.
I really liked this book, but when I got to the end, I felt like the story was incomplete. I was left wondering about some things that weren't told, like whether Cicily was going to fix her relationship with her mother. But overall, it was a very good book and I recommend it!
Hesitated between 3 or 4 stars. It was an entertaining fun story with nicely written characters. Good chemistry, hot sex, nice build up. So I think there are everything what a good romance must have. I liked it, even this huge age gap isnt my thing.
Quick easy read! I liked it from beginning to end, could've done without a few characters and it was very simple..not much depth, but a good read nonetheless.
