Filled with incredible insight, encouragement, and leadership, I Saw the Lord has been one of the most inspiring, revealing, scripture filled books I've ever read! I was particularly moved by the chapter on prayer and humbling ourselves before the Lord! There's great work to be done in spreading the Gospel(Good News). On our knees, before the Lord, is the best place to achieve that!

I read this book mainly at my wife's urging so that she could discuss some aspects of the book with me. It could be summarized by a call to those who name Christ as Lord to take the relationship seriously--to embrace holiness, to praise Him, to seek wisdom from Him from His word, to walk in love with Him, etc. For these reasons, this book has value. There were a few small nigglies that aren't worth going over here, but my one criticism is more to do with evangelicalism in general.

The problem is this: in the history of Christianity, a few important things were obscured like our salvation by faith in the FINISHED work of God through Jesus Christ--this was restored by the Reformation. Another important issue is the false divide between the sacred and the secular. The gnostic idea of matter being evil and only the spiritual having value has resurfaced in evangelical Christianity and this book follows suit.

The book includes a testimony of a woman named Carole who gave up her career in corporate America to work in "ministry", and while this is fine if someone feels they need to do this to maintain integrity, it is false divide to say that what is done in the secular world has no value because it is not for spiritual purposes. This paradigm doesn't allow for someone who is called to serve Christ through his profession in the (gasp) secular world.

With this caveat kept in mind, the book is otherwise of value if you can get past the nebulous style of writing.

My husband has had an interest in national revival for years, and his enthusiasm for the subject has rubbed off on me. This is a book he placed in my hands after he heard Anne Graham Lotz speak at a conference for pastors. After reading it, I can understand why he declared her to be the best speaker he had heard on the subject of PERSONAL revival.

Revival means "recovery of breath", and before a nation can be revived, individuals must be revived. Anne Graham Lotz uses Isaiah as an example of a man who had experienced personal revival. For Isaiah, it happened after King Uzziah died, and he saw the Lord high and lifted up, the train of his robe filling the temple with glory. His life was never the same after that moment.

Anne sounds the call for personal revival. She has obviously encountered the Lord Himself and is aflame with desire to call people and a nation to repentance. Her writing is fresh, practical, and stimulating. Interspersed through out the book, she weaves the testimony of a woman who has experienced deep change as a result of her revival experience. This woman's story helps us see what personal revival might look like in its practical outworking.

I found this read stimulating and challenging. I plan to make sure it goes into our church library along with my recommendation.

This incredible exploration of Isaiah’s life gives us a glimpse of the kind of relationship God wants to have with His people. Anne Graham Lotz investigates the text with profound illustrations that clearly flesh out her point. Her approach is forthright, yet humble. She addresses sin in our nation and our churches, while acknowledging her own.
Anne’s winsome commitment to the unchanging Word of God draws the reader to conclude too, that it’s time to take a stand for what we believe while kneeling at the feet of Jesus. She says God is up to something in current world events and in our personal lives, and He wants us to know the cry of His heart.
I Saw The Lord is an important book; one that should be in the hands of every believer, because judgment begins with the house of God. It gives tools for a fresh revival in our hearts and shows us how to see the Lord, high and lifted up.

p. 61, "When catastrophe strikes us personally we need to develop the habit of asking God what message there might be in it." Storms often contain a message from God.

p. 62, "Eternity is just a breath away."

p. 83, "Could it be that Jesus is waiting patiently in your life to give you evidence of His power that has not been diluted or depleted since that first Easter morning? Are you so focused on your own pain or grief or confusion or hopelessness that you are missing out on the greatest blessing you will ever receive?"

Well, I was disappointed in this one. I picked it up thinking that it was going to be about, well the Lord. It does reference Isaiah 6, and yes there is discussion on an encounter with God changing people. However, I thought it would be more about Him, His character, His attributes; well it really wasn't.
She had a premise of maybe Isaiah needed a personal revival. That up until chapter six he was trying to bring about national revival, but with that chapter maybe he needed a personal one. Okay. She "wondered". However, the rest of the book is built around that premise as if it was fact. It also deals very little with learning about the Lord.
It also told of a woman's story and her personal "revival". Her life story is a section at the beginning of each chapter. In the end she had quit her secular career to pursue a career in the ministry with Anne Lotz. Ok. Maybe she did need to walk away from her secular career if it was truly an idol in her life, but I do not believe that all Christians need to work solely in ministries. Many serve the Lord beautifully in the secular world by being the witness God asks them to be.

It also deals a great deal with service. Yes, I believe that service is very important in the Christian walk. However, it is not the only thing, nor is it the most important thing. I feel that we have forgotten that we are here to bring God glory, and we need to know our God first and foremost. It seems to me that we spend more time talking about what we are supposed to be "doing" than we talk about Him or just who our God is. Our relationship has become more about us and less about Him.

Clear and written with he heart. A call to seek God's face when everything around us falls away. Important reminder that when we desire change it usually must start with us. The closer we draw to the Lord, the more we see our need for that repentance that enables God to change us from within. I enjoyed how the author used Isaiah's path as an example for others to follow. Challenged me to not just know God with my mind, but with my heart.

This was a Bible study presented to my through my church. Many other women said the book this study was based on was great, so I was looking forward to it. I never did pick up the original book though...maybe that was my mistake.

There are videos that go along with this workbook, but the have little to do with the workbook.

The book takes participants through daily scripture readings with a practical way to study each scripture through personal meditation and journaling. While very practical, it was not helpful to me.

Overall I was greatly disappointed with this study all around.

This book, written by Billy Graham’s daughter – Ann Graham Lotz, is really good. She writes about the prophet Isaiah and his personal encounter with God and subsequent wake up call, revival. Ann ties the scripture in nicely with an everyday example of a women’s personal revival and other examples from her personal life. I liked the book, it was insightful and Ann’s knowledge of scripture is superior. Her writing style is good but a bit too emotional for me. I guess I’m more of a facts and analytics person but the book was still worth the read.

This book takes the example of Isaiah and his commissioning in Book 6 as a call to deeper faith. It had a slightly annoying style of lists that wandered forwards and backwards over the page and some of it seemed quite US-based (it was written shortly after 9/11). Nonetheless it included good solid Bible teaching and was a prompt to not neglect Bible reading and prayer.

This book is great and I think it might be a future bible study. It's intent is to spark personal revival by looking at the prophet Isaiah and his declaration of 'I saw the LORD' and how he was changed by the experience.

Anne Graham Lotz does a superb job of inspiring the reader. She has some of her father's preaching and teaching style and ability. I would encourage anyone who seeks a closer walk with the Lord to read this book. Lotz has frequent references to Scripture and some of the great hymns of the faith.
