Story of two boys/men who grow up together in the the deep South. When the Civil War breaks out the black boy/man is sold in the slave market. He escapes through the underground railroad. The white boy/man graduates from the Citadel and becomes an Officer in the Confederate Army. The story is about these two friends. Enemies as they fight on different sides of the war. The story unfolds as told through the eyes of these two characters. The war begins with Fort Sumter, Manassas, and finally, the battle for the conquest of Richmond. The story is rich in history. This is an excellent method to learn about all of the great battles of the Civil War, and the reasons for the loss/win on each respective side.
