In the quaint village of Deerfield, Pastor Enoch Foster falls over dead in front of his congregation after drinking from the communion cup. An autopsy indicates he was poisoned. In the aftermath of his murder, his influence continues to be felt as a diverse group of parishioners learns to depend on God as well as each other--even though all of them are suspect!
When my mother said The Body They May Kill was better than Stallsmith's Thyme Will Tell series, I frankly didn't believe her. Or rather, I didn't believe I'd agree with her.
In the words of Rapunzel's captor, "Mother knows best." I should've listened to my mumsie.
My all-time favorite character, Titus, nearly got unseated in this book. I have never fallen in love with a character as quickly as I did one in here. In just a page or two, I was a gonner.
And then Stallsmith killed that character off! Ruthless murder. And she set up a set of clues and suspects to keep readers guessing from beginning to end. But that wasn't the best part.
This book is Christian fiction at its finest. The raw, authentic, no-holds-barred weaving of faith and questioning and thoughts... I put more tabs in this one REALLY SHORT novel than I have in any other book (okay, besides the Bible!).
Perfect for lovers of mystery, lovers of characterization, and lovers of faith woven into a story until it feels like an old friend as you read.
