HOLDEN ❤❤

There was a darkness to Holden, and I knew he struggled with his past, but it was like I always saw the good in him, fighting for control underneath all the shadows.

Holden's story was my Achilles !!!
Angry tattoed bad boy
MMA fighter
Foster System survivor
Brother's best friend........I ate this story up! Devoured it whole!!!

KARLIE

Falling for the bad boy and your brother's best friend. You.Go.Girl.

I loved this book. I fell in love with these characters in book one of this series. Unraveling (Second Chances, #1) by Micalea Smeltzer
These two were hell bent on fighting their attraction and feelings towards each other. Holden was 8 years older than her and she was the little sister that was in the "do not cross" line. Karlie is an adult now and is leaving for college in the fall. She and Holden act on their attraction and decide on summer no-strings fling. THAT NEVER WORKS WHEN REAL FEELINGS ARE INVOLVED. But damn it was HOTTTTTTT.

I look down at the man, wishing I could crawl inside him and chase away his demons. I wanted to make him understand that he was a good person and worthy of good things in life.

No one would ever be able to change him, or make him understand that there was goodness inside of him.

I really enjoyed reading alternating points of view. Getting Holden's thoughts really made my heart hurt. He had been through a lot....and he didn't feel like he deserved to be happy.

Silly Holden...there's a rainbow after every storm.....Fear NOT! You will be loved !!!! ❤❤❤❤

"Just live in the moment, Angel, these moments are all we've got."

"I'll scare you away eventually."
"Why are you so sure I'll leave?"
"Everyone leaves me."

You should spend less time worrying about messing everything up and spend it living in the moment instead, because every minute we spend together is something to treasure.

I want you to know that what I feel for you is UNDENIABLE. It always has been and it always will be. ~ Holden

I'm a total sucker for the whole "I fell in love with my brothers best friend" story line. I think it's my favorite twist on the "friends to lovers" theme that almost always works for me.

I adored Holden. Such a sweetheart underneath all that man-whore. I liked Karlie for most of the book I also really liked Jared and Katy, so I think I'm going to have to go back and read their story too.

It was a overall a sweet story, and certainly tugged on my heart strings

*I was provided with a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. Thank you, Micalea!*
I am a huge fan of the ‘Second Chances’ series. I read the first book, ‘Unraveling’ a few weeks ago and I loved every second of it. I fell in love with the story, with the characters, with Micalea’s writing. My favorite character, after Katie and Jared, was Karlie. She was such an adorable teenager and her passion for ballet made ma adore her immediately. And she and Holden… well, I really wanted to read their story. So when I read the last pages in ‘Unraveling’ and saw that Micalea is actually writing their own book, I was very happy. I waited for ‘Undeniable’ for like, 20 days, but it felt like forever.
Saturday night, when I got the book, I wanted to read just the first page. But after the first page, I couldn’t stop, so I read until 2am in the morning, until I reached 50%. Then Sunday, I didn’t even want to eat. I just wanted to read, read, read. This is one of those books that won’t let you put it down.
Oh God I loved this book!! I cried, I laughed, I’ve been angry, I giggled because of how cute Karlie and Holden were together. Brilliant, brilliant!! I’m serious heart broken since I finished this book. I mean, no more Karlie and Holden? No more Jared and Katy? No more of this brilliant series? Someone get me to psychologist. I’m depressed.
Hm…. *sighing*. This love story is one of the best I’ve ever read. It’s not usual, too. I mean, I’ve never read a book where the age gap between the main characters was 8 years. But it was very interesting to read , especially for me because I have crushes only on older guys. So yup, I totally understood Karlie.
God it’s difficult to write this review. I loved this book so much and it’s hard to describe it. “Undeniable” is the kind of book that has everything and you love it, but when it comes to review it, it’s kind of impossible.
Micalea’s writing is much better than in the first book. Comparing “Undeniable” with’ Unraveling’, everything is better. Her writing is more lyrical, the emotions are easier to understand and there is no rush. I didn’t find any rushed scenes and this is an important thing for me. Plus, the editing is sooooo much better than in ‘Unraveling’.
What impressed me the most? I think Micalea’s best advantage is the way she makes you understand the feelings of the characters. I mean, this book made me very emotional. When Karlie was sad, I was sad. When she was with Holden, I could understand her nerves and her love. When she left for New York I totally understood her. I’m a voiolinist and I’m supposed to leave home in 3 years for London. So I know what she’s going through.
The characters grow and become more mature as the action and the story unfold. In the beginning, Karlie was an innocent 18 years old girl with a crush on his brother’s best friend. In the end, she was a women that lost something precious (I’m not gonna say what, because I’d give you a huge spoiler!) . A woman that lived a drama, a woman with dreams, a woman that loves.
But Karlie isn’t the only one that grows in this book. In the beginning, Holden was a “man whore” (I think Karlie called him like this one time). Every night, he was with another womam. But when he agreed to have a summer of fun with Karlie, he changed. He changed the way he was thinking, he changed his opinion about himself. Love changed him. In the end, he was a grown-up man.
The passion and chemistry between Karlie and Holden is undeniable. I loved how, in the beginning, they were trying to deny their feelings for each other. But the heart gets what she wants, right?
There are some super hot scenes in this book. I LOL-ed at some of these scenes, because of Karlie’s nerves and awkwardness. I mean, she was super cute in the first steamy scene with Holden.
I’m really sad that this series is over. I loved it, it’s one of my favorite series this year so far. I can’t wait to read Micalea’s other books.
Whatever you are reading right now, drop it and pick up the ‘Second Chances’ series. Both of the books, “Unraveling” and “Undeniable’ will make you cry, laugh, love. I’ve never expected to love this series so much, to be honest!
Now that I finished, go and read ‘Unraveling’ then ‘Undeniable’.
6 stars out of 5.

I received an ARC copy of this book from the author for an honest review. This is my review as seen on my blog: stephaniesbookreports.blogspot.com

I am so thankful to have authors, like Micalea, think of me when they're almost ready to publish their books and ask if I would read their work. It's such an honor.

I have been a fan of Micalea's since she published her Outsider series. She published Undeniable, April 1st, and of course it was amazing! Click here for my review: Unraveling

So...on to Undeniable. I can say with out a shadow of a doubt Micalea's writing gets better with each book she writes. The two characters of this book Holden and Karlie were secondary characters in Unraveling and begged for their own book. Holden and Karlie are like two magnets being drawn to one another. They are polar opposites but have this undeniable connection between them. He's a MMA fighter and she's a ballerina. He's been with many, many women and she's a virgin.

I loved seeing how these characters fought off the attraction between each other as there are many reasons they reasoned they were not meant to be together. There's an 8 year age difference, she's his best friend's sister, he's got a harried past, she doesn't remember much of her younger years but it was bad, very bad. It's all just excuses. Nothing can change the attraction which builds into love. What will they do about it? They decide to have an affair for the summer.

Relationships often have expectations and to enter into one without them is doomed from the start. I think Micalea did an awesome job at describing how these two denied what they each truly wanted during their affair. Major events happen in this book, and I won't spoil it for you, but let's just say life happens and it has Holden questioning if he can really love people. Is he truly deserving of Karlie and her love.

Will he choose drugs and booze like his daddy? Will he man up and go after the girl? If he does, will she even choose Holden, or has she moved on?

Unraveling, the first from this series of companion books was one I loved. It’s not enough to say how curious I was to know where the author was taking these two characters. It’s worth highlighting the author building bases for Holden and Kalie’s spin off story. I must say I found a Karlie likeable and the way her character is built really captures the age in which it’s based, but who actually stole my heart was Holden. This character is so complex, I felt empathy with him and how his whole life he’s been fighting to survive. Surviving abuse, abandonment, lack of love, struggling to succeed and, to complicate his world, surviving feelings that could smash all the barriers he’s established between the way he portrays himself and who he really is. I was captured by seeing how passionate it was for Karlie and Holden to resist their emotions. The biggest credit I can give Mrs. Smeltzer is that, just like its predecessor Undeniable, the story captures the reader in a path of character growth but both stories being completely different and one not overcoming the other, but it outstands this story’s construction. Unraveling is the story of two who have; earned to love each other, question and desire from afar, until the moment their feelings unravel them off their inhibitions. Once they learn who they are and what they really feel, they’ll have everything to build that future dream full of love both have always wanted.

Undeniable was an emotional sexy read!

“Take your hands off her now, or I’ll punch you so hard you’ll be in a coma for the rest of your life,” I ground out. - Holden

Holden... Holden.. Holden.. sigh
He's your typical alpha-jerk-possessive and I LOVE IT!!!
MMA fighter, sexy, tattooed bad boy who doesn't do commitment. He's the boy your momma warned you about but behind the this is a lost, insecure man.
Holden grew up in a rough household.. he's father forced him to sell drugs, beats him up that ended him in a foster care. I so loved broken heroes, Holden did some shitty things but I liked that he was willing to change for Karlie! He's very insecure of himself and I find it very sexy!

Karlie is an okay heroine, though she came off as weak sometimes, but I still like her.

I thought this was going to be an sexy easy read but I was wrong, there was a major thing happened that I became emotional. I felt really bad when she I didn't see that coming :(

The epilogue was great!! It seems like a conclusion to the Second Chance series. :)

This is my first read from this author, I actually bought this book mainly because I found out it has a possessive hero.. lol. So I didn't read the first book Unraveling but from what I can see, Jared (Karlie's brother) is also protective.. so now I'ma go back and read that one now. ^^,

One dimensional characters

The story has no depth. Characters were boring and flat. The writing was totally written by an amateur. Do not recommend.

I received Undeniable by Micalea Smeltzer in exchange for an honest review. This book is a Cover re-reveal and sale blitz. A brand new designed cover will grace this book. I've read and reviewed this awesome story that was emotionally charged and that left me breathless. Let's just say it's a roller coaster of emotions at its best. It's the second book in the Second Chances series .This wonderful story deserves no less than 5 stars. This story is about falling in love, positive changes and strong bonds between non blood related family.

Karlie as had a crush on her brothers best friend, Holden, since she was 16 years old but he's a lot older and forbidden. Karlie is now 18 and about to go off to dance school, but her feelings for Holden have only intensified over the years. He's been fighting his feelings for her because he believes it's wrong and that he is a bad person. They have been drawn to each other for a long time. He's had a troubled childhood that left him scarred. But one night of passion leads to a summer fling which they both agree will end come fall. You can see Holden changing throughout the story as it progresses. But what they didn't count on is the hurdles they will have to overcome. But will they?

From the very beginning of this story I was hooked to every word, scenes and the characters. About 50% in, I thought that the story had hit a plateau and I was somewhat disappointed. But BAM! There was a twist and shift in the story where I was left grief stricken, sad and emotionally upset. I was holding by breath to see what would happen next. Micalea did not disappoint me in the least with the outcome. From there more twists and turns that were unpredictable. The writing was amazing and I loved the two main characters. She in cooperated the other characters from the previous book but not as much as the first one, which was fine. The focus was on Holden and Karlie.

This story is told in dual POV. It's a standalone with an HEA. Unraveling was the first book, I personally like to read the books in a series in order to better comprehend the plot and characters. I love a great epilogue so a I liked this one. I got to see where everyone was at. I strongly recommend this book and all of this authors previous books also.

A while back, I was able to read Undeniable by Micalea Smeltzer. Micalea Smeltzer is a young author who writes AMAZING books. She's written three series so far and is working on her new book, Finding Olivia. Undeniable is the second book in the Second Chances series, the first book being Unraveling.
So back to Undeniable. It was a really good book that I really enjoyed. Holden Marks is a twenty five year old whose best friend Jared has an eighteen year old sister, Karlie. Karlie has this undeniable attraction towards Holden but knows it's wrong since there are too many reasons why Holden is not for her. Holden sleeps around, is seven years older and her brothers best friend. Holden knows he can't be with Karlie. She's too young and innocent. Too untouchable. One night at a party changes everything. They set up an agreement, a no-strings-attached fling for the summer as long as Karlie is home.
I liked the emotions that were shared throughout the book. There's one tragedy that has you emotional and wishing you could take it away. Holden and Karlie cared for each other in their own separate ways and that was one of the reasons I enjoyed the story line. Holden had his own inner demons from the past that haunt his future. Told in dual points of view, you are able to connect with both Holden and Karlie on multiple levels. I've reread Undeniable a few times already because I enjoyed it so much the first time. I understood how both Karlie and Holden were feeling and understood both their differences. I loved the whole book, don't get me wrong, but I loved the ending more. I guess you'll just have to read Undeniable to find out YOUR favorite part.

With Kaley and her brother's bf you know the relationship is taboo but want is want and sometimes undeniable.

With Kaley she has dreamed of Holden for so long and once it can be reality logic gets thrown out the window for the chance of what if.

For Holden who doesn't believe he's worth loving and scared that Kaley will leave him. He goes into this relationship trying to cater to his wants but quickly realizes that it is much more than a want but a need and emotions.

Of course what would a book be without loads of angst, miscommunication and drama. For Holden & Kaley they fall through this trap but love is strong and Holden finaly realizes that he deserves happiness and goes after it.

Sweet book

Holden is not someone who shoots the s***, he puts it out there, "do you have any idea how much I want to eff you right here on the beach?" He also doesn't like when his girl (whose not really his girl at the time) touches other men, "I was going to break her hand if it went any lower. She shouldn't be touching him, and definitely not like that." He's a man of action not words, "I think when I shoved you against the wall and kissed you like my life depended on it, it was decided then. I have to have you, Karlie." He's a protective person as well, "nobody touched my angel and expected to get away with it." Definitely loved this one better than the first in the series there was more action (yes ladies MORE action) and more plot that kept you reading until the end.

I loved Unraveling the first book in this series and was excited for Holden and Karlie's story but somehow Undeniable just didn't grip me in the same way Unraveling did. Don't get me wrong i loved it, Miss Smeltzer's writing is superb but when i was reading Undeniable i couldn't help but feel a bit blank coming out of it. I don't know if it was the way i felt on that particular day reading it or the fact that i didn't know what to read after to make me feel better. The point is, i loved the ending of this book. It was perfect and beautiful and the perfect way to end the series. If there's another book after this i don't think there should be because this was so perfect.

This book started off with a sizzle between Holden and Karlie. She is only 18 yrs. old and he is 26 plus he is her brother's best friend. This has the makings of an awesome story. Truthfully it draws you in and you are rooting for them. You just want something good to happen for Holden. He feels like he can do nothing right and that he doesn't deserve to have someone love him. Karlie has been in love with him since she was 16 if not before. She never thought he would feel the same way about her. They had some hot and steamy love scenes. Then everything went wrong. From there it just snowballed into a bigger disaster. Then Jared her brother finds out that they were seeing each other and it ruins the friendship that they have had for many years.
Sadly after that point it just lost it's sizzle. Holden turned in to a drunk that whines and Karlie just disappeared in this book to a dance partner for another dancer.
A little spark was brought back with the epilogue which I really enjoyed.

I was really excited to read this book. It has two of my favorite tropes: age gap and brother’s best friend. Unfortunately, the writing was so flat and, although I hate to say it, amateurish, and there was zero depth to the characters or why they even liked each other in the first place. There was a huge rush to get to their first time together, and I won’t go into the spoilers about that, it left a lot to be desired. I could not get far after that because it felt like a waste of time, and it felt like the metaphor of me not wanting to throw good money after bad.

I bought a couple of the author’s other books at the same time as I bought this one because, again, the blurbs really drew me in. I sincerely hope that this was a one-off and that I can enjoy the others. A lot of people and authors I like enjoy this author, so I don’t know why my opinion is so off.

I'm a sucker for a brother's best friend romance. Always have been and always will be.
This book was on a whole other level. Everything Karlie went through added something different to the story. The fact that Holden was portrayed as broken and unlovable makes him all the more understandable.

4.5 stars!

I was really looking forward to reading this book after I finished the first book! I knew that this book wasn't going to be about Katy and Jared and that it was going to be about Karlie and Holden, but I still couldn't wait to read it! This book was awesome! The plot focused on a relationship that had quite a big age difference and it also had plenty of twist and turns! The twists and turns were insane! It did take them a while to come into play in the book, but once they did, the plot was going one way and then turned completely around! It was absolutely insane, but that's what I love in a book! A plot that makes me think where the author's going to take it next and how they're going to develop it! I really enjoyed the plot! I left me wanted to keep reading on and the twist and turns definitely kept it interesting! I do have to admit that I did prefer reading Katy and Jared's story to Karlie and Holden's! I'm not sure why, but I just feel that I connected more with Katy and Jared in their story! I still enjoyed every second of reading Karlie and Holden's story! The characters were amazing! Karlie was the main female character and she was a bit hard for me to connect with at the start, but I connected with her about 25% through! I'm not sure why I didn't connect with her until that length through the book as she was a sweet girl, who danced and was genuine to people! She did keep to herself and she got along with people! I really liked her! She wasn't shy at the beginning of this book, but she kept herself to herself, but as soon as she got with Holden she let herself go and was started getting more confidence and sexier even! Holden was the main male character and he was kind of an ass, but he was a complicated character as well! I wanted to punch Holden so many times in this book until he told Karlie how he really felt about her! He thought that he couldn't love anyone and that he ruined everyone who went near him, but he was so much more then that and he was everything to Karlie! I did find Holden hot and I loved him with Karlie! There was a love triangle in this book near the end, but it was only for a few chapters! The love triangle was between Karlie, Holden and Grayson, a guy who later becomes Karlie's dance partner! I actually loved the addition of the love triangle! I sort of saw it coming when Grayson was introduced, but I liked that Karlie didn't have romantic feelings for Grayson and that she only saw him as a friend! I loved that Katy and Jared were in this book a lot! Obviously the first book was about them and I really hoped that they were back in this book, and they were! I loved seeing how far their relationship had developed and there were a few surprises from them as well ;) The ending of this book was beautiful! It summed up not only Karlie and Holden's relationship, but it also showed where Katy and Jared's relationship went and how much it had developed as well! I love the epilogue! Completely loved it! It was absolutely beautiful! I'm really sad that this is the end of this series, but what a series it has been! I've loved every second of reading it, and although I preferred Katy and Jared's story, I loved getting to read a book on Karlie and Holden! The cover for this book is stunning! Absolutely stunning! I love the way the title is as well! It's so different!

Check out more of my reviews on at Home. Love. Books. - The best place to find your next book! http://www.homelovebooks.com photo synopsisgraphic.png

I had high hopes for this book, largely because I'm kind of a huge fan of the whole best friends little sister thing, and I love when two people have to hide their relationship from others. So when we meet Karlie and Holden things aren't exactly what I would call romantic. There is an age gap between the two of them and while Karlie definitely has a thing for Holden, he is a bit on the stand offish side with her. Until of course we find out that it is because he is has a thing for her too.

Karlie is young, and lives with her older brother, and to say she is babied by her older brother would probably be a huge understatement. In fact I had a big problem with the way that Karlie allows for the people in her life to baby her. She's might be young, but she's an adult, so I mean why would she allow her brother to continue treating her like she was a child. I did like that she did go for what she wanted with Holden though, I mean she clearly wanted him, and even though she knew that it was a situation that her brother would not approve of, she went for it anyways.

Of course this whole thing doesn't play out the way either of them expected. I don't want to ruin it with a spoiler, but let's just put it this way, something horrible happened, everyone found out about Karlie and Holden, and in the end Karlie just ran away, went to Joffrey to be a ballerina and left everything that happened behind her. Although I'm not sure that you could really say that Karlie left everything behind her, the situation haunts her.

Holden turns out to be a really good guy. I liked him a lot over the course of the book. He really cares about Karlie, he cared about her before things even picked up between them. And when everything comes to a head, he really tries his best to do the right thing by Karlie. I could totally understand why he stepped back, I don't know that anyone knows how to handle these types of things 100% correctly.

I don't know what I was expecting from this book, but I think I was thinking it was going to be a bit on the lighter side. I'm not annoyed that it wasn't more lighter, but I do wish I had connected more with the couple. I liked Karlie, I liked Holden. I didn't love them as a couple. I mean they seem okay, but I didn't have strong feelings for them one way or another. Also there is a significant portion of the book where these two are separate, and I don't know how much I enjoyed those parts of the book. If you are looking for a happy go lucky book, this book is not for you, but if you are looking for something that has the possibility of pulling on your heartstrings, this might be the book for you.

Nothing new but it's well written and the characters are moving. it's working!

http://blue-moon.fr/spip.php?article8510

Ever since reading Katy and Jared’s story, I was excited in reading Karlie’s and Holden’s turn for their HEA.

He was eight years older and her brother’s best friend. He didn’t see her as a woman, but as a young girl, or so she thinks until one night they crossed that thin line between love and hate. They decided to make a pact spending the summer together until Karlie goes to New York to study ballet. It will all end – no hearts broken, no commitment issues.

What they didn’t expect was the fact that as they get to know more about each other, the harder they fall. But something happened, and it broke them apart. I thought it would be Jared that would break them apart first, but the reason was more devastating.

It took some time, a lot of bad decisions and wrong roads, before they were finally back into each other’s arms. The one who led them back? I didn’t expect that person to do it. But that person did, thank God. The person made Holden see some light and pushed him into the right path.

I love this book more than the first one. Perhaps because I was primarily excited to read Katy’s story, or the fact that they only need a little push to the right direction because ever since, the both of them were meant for each other. The pacing was better, it’s a little hotter and less dramatic. It’s a story of love, forgiveness (most especially forgiving oneself) and second chances.

another 5 star greatness

Wow another awesome and great book. I really like how micalea writes her books. I want to read her books all the time. I also want to say how I loved that there was a lot of Jared and Katy also in the second book. I loved the 1st one with their story and it was nice to still get to read more about them too. I will say this had me so nervous thinking what's wrong with you, what are you thinking, are you guys stupid?? All I could think of is when Jared finds out its not going to be good. It really had me on my toes, I didn't want to put it down. I really like all of Micaleas books I have read so far and can't wait to read the next book of hers I check out. Her books really seem to leave you wanting more and wishing that the book you just read wasn't over because you could read about the characters forever. Which this book was defiantly like. Again I loved all the characters and thought they were great. They really had me dreaming about them in my sleep and thinking about them during the day. I hope the next book of hers that I read is just as good.

** ARC given on behalf of obsessed by books for an honest review * *

OK I loved unraveling but this was by far my favorite. can be read as a standalone but highly recommend reading unraveling first.

we have the story of the sexy, dirty mouth Holden and the sweet dancer Karlie. I loved the connection these two had in unraveling but so see a more in depth into thier relationship is awesome.
Karlie has always wanted Holden, she doesn't date due to that fact, but she knows he only sees her as Jared his best friend's little sister. She hates that , but lately he's given off mix signals and even making remarks nut his hot and cold act is driving her crazy.
Holden is drawn to Karlie but he knows it forbidden but Holden also doesn't play by the rules. He can't stop his feelings, therefore is he willing to take the risk with Karlie. loved it, loved it. definitely a must read.

Undeniable is a well written, well edited book.
The author is still young and it shows in her writing style and in the depth of her characters. While Undeniable made me cry in almost every page of Holden's POV (after 65%) I must say I'm a little confused. SHE gave him up, SHE ran and yet at the very end she has the nerve to tell him she doubted his feelings???
I was frustrated with Karlie, even though I totally get the whole teenage pregnancy/miscarriage and the feelings it evokes. (Minor detail, you can't hear the babys' heartbeat until week 8 of pregnacny, unless the time was a little vague).
All in all, it was a nice read, with brilliant supporting characters (Oh Jared...), interesting plot and a happy ending...
