Not Your Fault

Rate this book
Delaney has a job she loves and a boyfriend who loves her. Working the night shift at a local gym has given her buns of steel and enough endorphins to deal with the ninth anniversary of her brother's death. When a new owner takes over the gym, Delaney's forgotten past comes somersaulting back at her. Kris Payne isn't just her new boss, he's her ex-boyfriend from high school and he's got a smile that's as cocky as he is gorgeous.

Delaney has no business being attracted to the womanizing, muscular man from her past. She tries to ignore his flirtatious nature, and the fact that she has a boyfriend isn't the thing she feels guilty about. In fact, being in a relationship bothers her a lot less than it should. After all, she can always ditch the boyfriend, but she can't ditch Kris' involvement in her brother's death.

Delaney and Kris dated in high school then on her sixteenth birthday Kris is involved in a terrible accident which kills her brother they've not seen each other since. Now ten years later Kris turns out to be the new owner of the gym where Delaney works so they're going to have to face each other and their pasts.
The blurb for this book sounded quite good but in reality it was, for me anyway a disappointment. Delaney was sixteen last time she laid eyes on Kris and it's been ten years since then but she's nearly twenty-eight !!
There was a lot about this book I didn't like, Delaney's with Nathan even though she can hardly stand for him to touch her, we know she's attracted to Kris and they say there's a fine line between love and hate but still I felt like I blinked and missed something, and what's with Lucy and I mean really what's with Lucy, we get no explanation or anything this was one of the main reasons I stuck this book out till the end I wanted to know what was going on there. The book for me wasn't balanced in respect that it seemed to finish abruptly, three quarters of the book was filled with Delaney's hate and unhappiness and then we have about a quarter where things are getting better then it ends just like that.

When a book ends the way this one just did, making it seem as though it's just another page, really pisses me off. That 'ending' was non-existent. I was also left with unanswered questions when I finished reading, and I'm assuming there isn't going to be a follow up book?

I thought Delaney had her funny moments throughout the book. She kept it interesting to an extent.
Though the story line wasn't really up to scratch. There was no progress in the story, it stayed stuck in a loop of her brothers passing 9 years ago.

Though this is just my opinion, others may enjoy Not Your Fault. I however thought it was a little dull/boring. There was nothing overly fantastic about this to stand out.

I also noticed when I was 3% through it mentions Delaney being with Nathan for only a year, and it's in the present time. When so many pages after it states they've been together for 6 years. Am I missing something? Or was that just an error?

Anyhoo, I did give the extra star purely because I enjoyed Delaney. If it wasn't for her, I unfortunately would of not finished reading it.

This book is, well.... 1st, the author threw me completely off with the math.. in the beginning of the book she was with her boyfriend for a year and then a few more pages and she is saying 6 years...For me, it instantly lowered the book.. I continued reading because it is a good story line and I wanted to see how it was going to end...I'm a little disappointed because I would like to have known a little more..That's all I'm going to say because I don't want to give any spoilers...This book does have a good story line but it just felt unfinished to me...

No. Just no. First off, Delaney's boyfriend killed her brother on her birthday, ran off and never talked to her again, and then she sees him 10 years later only for her to magically be okay with what he did with no conversation about what had happened?

Then, she gets upset that her mother had the opposite reaction.

Also, no one, I repeat, no one forgives that fast.

Another thing? I would have went and beat up Nathan. Hospital beating. But no, just a phone call with some f-bombs and that was it?

I knew this was a short novel, but this was too much. I think the author skipped over the parts that needed to be addressed and written about instead of just skimmed over and everything was peachy and hunky-dory. Because it's not. First Delany's upset, then she's jumping Kris's bones.

Just did not work for me. If it wasn't for it being a short novel, I probably wouldn't have finished reading it.

Where do I begin... I honestly hate to give a book a less than perfect review, but there was alot of issues that I had with this one in particular. Nathan is supposed to be (I'm assuming) a 27 year old guy, and while thats well and good I dont know any 27 y.o. men who act like teenagers (13-14 y.o.) maybe thats just my take, but running into the hallway to fart?! Seriously?

Anyway, now Delaney as well is a little immature for a 27 year old as well who still has a fetish with "Hello Kitty"? As stated above I don't know many WOMEN who would, even if it is a surprise, have a "Hello Kitty" themed party.

In my opinion these characters were created as teenagers, but in the book their ages were changed. It was hard for me to get into because let's face it, it's not very believable aside from the pain aspect of loss.

Again, I apologize for my review, but it honest :)

Thank God this was short!!!

I really wouldn't have been able to finish this had it been longer.
I hate DNF, but I would have if it had been longer.

I can't stand stupid people and this little thing was teeming with them.
And plot holes... Don't get me started on those.
Or the end that was sort of missing... Gahhh! It was such an unsatisfying read!

Well then ... hmmm. I am gonna blame the disconnect, with me and this novel, on the reviews I read before actually reading this story. It's not that the premise or characters were all that bad. It's more the writing and delivery. I am one confused ball of emotions because I doubt there is a complete important scene or train of thought. If Delaney feel too lazy to finish a thought or sentence, it all ended there.

There are a vast amount of conversations waiting to be expounded upon. We left in the middle and start of important conversations and discussions and we just didn't bother to revisit them. This obviously didn't help much with clarity also, because most of the time was spent in the mind of Delaney, as oppose to having an actual conversation, or in this story case, confrontations.

There was a major disconnect between the characters within this novel. I could hardly believe their reactions and emotions. The build up was so weak. The whole story seemed speculative if you ask me. I lost my own train of thought a million times over.

The children of this family seem to either be dead, drop-outs or heart broken and just gliding through life without much purpose. Then you meet the parents who are both currently doing their PHDs and I'm like ... "hmmm ... interesting. Very interesting"

Delaney seems like a cool chick. She has sarcasm down to a 'T' and her logics aren't really logical at all, but you role with them nonetheless. If anyone, I understand a relationship that has done it's time, but you don't know how to let go. She seems to have the most awkward moments in her relationship with Nathan. Some bordering on ridiculous. (Couch sex scene) Her relationship also seems to be 5 or 6 years worth of space saving, as she is rather cold to it all.

Speaking of years, the author seems unable to lock into one or maybe she counts differently, not too sure. The time differences don't add up, but that's the least of the worries, with this confusing story that kept going ... to where, I still don't know o.o

I didn't really take anything away from this story because I don't even know if anyone forgives him. After all, he did kill her brother o.O

I understood the premise and lesson that the author wanted to teach us, but it seemed like she was a little intoxicated when writing this novel, because it came off totally unplanned and seem to be just "winging' it. It felt like you stumbled through this story. Sorting and trying to put everything together, to just throw up your hands in the end and walk away. I literally feel like I been stumbling.

Irrespective of the delivery and lingering taste, I wasn't bored or shouting out borderline bad! It was just ... there. It didn't convey much. It didn't draw you in, but it didn't run you away either. Maybe it's the length, but it was a bearable read.

Great premise and base but not so excellent of a delivery. Life, passion, emotion. I don't know. It just needed some anxiety, apprehension and overall shock or drama. A mini fit by the mom was practically the highlight and the moment she closed her mouth it all went back to the plain Jane story it's been throughout.

I wanted to like this one, but it needs to be revised and re-written to convey more of a story and not a relay of barber shop gossip.

What a great contemporary novel! I've been lurking for something good like this for a while. You don't find a lot of books that are this cute and this perfect for a summer book.

"Wait. Kris Payne just became my boss. Somehow he got even hotter since high school."

After reading that quote from above, that second I realized that this book is really good and it was going to be good from that moment on.

Contemporary novels can have just the right amount of romance, or they could have too much romance which therefore makes the book even more boring because you know what to expect, blah, blah, blah. Not Your Fault had just the right amount of romance in it, and I was really happy to see what it turned into.

I'd say that this is a contemporary romance, but there was a backstory behind it which made it even more interesting and the romance helped the main protagonist, Delaney, get through the troubles of her past.

It made me laugh to read about how Delaney described her ex, Andrew was it? How she loved that he snuggled her like a teddy bear. xD I felt that Kris in the end was a much better match for her even though he had something to do with Delaney's brother's tragic death. He was such a cute guy that would do anything for his girl. <3

It's cute to read about a strong romance like this, but at times it's boring just to read about perfect romance, which this book had. Most contemporaries have some obstacle in the middle of the book, but I found that this one didn't, and the good romance began to blemish away and got boring. I wish that some rivalry or something would've occurred.

I'm looking forward to reading more of Cheyanne Young's books.

This was a fun, light read. I have already read one of Cheyanne Young's books, also set in Mixon, TX, but this one gives us a view of a different part of the region, including a little island.

From the start of the book, Delaney's boyfriend wasn't set up to seem like an ideal catch. He was set up to seem nice, but not sexy at all, and he was also set up as being not romantic. Later in the book, I got a slightly different impression of him than I did in the beginning. In the beginning I got the impression he was good to Delaney, but then later on it seemed he was quite selfish, e.g. not driving out of his way to pick Delaney up, etc. So I'm not sure who the real him was meant to be.

Anyway, this felt like a story that ended quickly, and I was wondering as I got near the end if it would end on a cliffhanger, to be continued later. But there wasn't a cliffhanger, and things were resolved. In a way I guess it still feels like it has potential to continue, though. Maybe just a bit 'unfinished.'

I look forward to reading my next Cheyanne Young book! :)

The storyline was sad because of all the talk ans seriousness of Delaney s dead brother Tyler but it was also funny. In the beginning I was laughing so hard I couldn't breathe. Other than that there wasn't much of a storyline other than to learn to forgive, not only others, but ourselves to. There wasn't much to the ending and no big shocker moments. No really sexy moments other than the shower but that wasn't really even anything. A little more drama would have been good and a Little more depth. It didn't feel like a whole book to me...Maybe a third of a book at most.

Great quick read!! Enjoyed the storyline...it had depth and emotion. I'm a sucker for second chance romance and especially when they was high school sweethearts. The characters were great...with the exception of Nathan who I really hoping that he would get his butt kicked by the hot bodybuilder:)) Looking forward to reading more books by Cheyanne Young!!

This heartfelt love story was written to deeply touch the reader. In my case, it worked by capturing my interests from the beginning. In this novel, the author exhibits excellent writing skills. I would simply say, just read the story and enjoy.

It was a good book, not sure if I liked the abrupt ending on this one as well as well as the confusing emotions the reader was giving. I was a whirlwind of emotions from both main characters
