Hiding out in the gents’ toilet backstage is not the way Sasha imagined bumping into her significant ex. Especially when that ex is notoriously damaged, famously wild rock god Nate Noble! She has a massive favour to ask him, but one glimpse of his sinfully dark eyes and all she can think about is that he’s seen her naked!
Nate’s used to women doing anything to get his attention, but he never pictured bubbly schoolteacher Sasha as the groupie type—she’s far too sweet! And when the paparazzi get a hint of their reunion, it’s scandal all the way. Now the question on everyone’s lips is this: In this showdown between the girl-next-door and rock & roll royalty, who’s going to come out on top?
Award-winning author Louisa George has been an avid reader her whole life. In between chapters she managed to fit in a BA degree in Communication Studies, trained as a nurse, married her doctor hero and had two sons. Now, she spends her days writing chapters of her own in the medical romance, contemporary romance and women’s fiction genres.
Louisa’s books have variously been nominated for the coveted RITA® Award and the NZ Koru Award (which she won in 2014 and 2016 for the Short Sexy Category) and translated into twelve languages. She lives in Auckland, New Zealand and, when not writing or reading, likes to travel, drink mojitos and do Zumba®- preferably all at the same time.
Sasha Sweet has a big favor to ask of her ex-boyfriend/hot rock star Nate Munro. Sasha is a teacher and she is working with a group of kids called "No Limits" (a mixed ability choir group) at Chesterton High School. The kids reached the finals of a national contest but they can't afford the fares up to Manchester, the hotel costs, costumes, etc. She figures, with Nate's popularity and his media pull he can help. Nate eventually agrees and he goes to the school to meet the kids, even though he hates going back to Chesterton High. It brings back bad memories.
Ten years ago Nate and Sasha were an item. They both went to Chesterton High School. But Nate was expelled from the school.
Nate now lives in Malibu. He left London and Chesterton behind and made it big as a popular rock star. But now that he is back in London for a concert he realizes how much he misses that city. He also finds he is still attracted to his ex-girlfriend Sasha.
I didn't really care for Nate. He came across as conceited and full of himself. He dwelled on his appeal to women. I thought he could have treated Sasha better.
I did like Sasha. She had some pain in her past. She was kind and sweet.
I usually enjoy stories with musicians and rock stars but this was just an OK read.
BACKSTAGE WITH HER EX by author Louisa George is Harlequin Kiss series release for October 2013.
Sasha Sweet was a prim and proper schoolteacher. Not for anything she was known as Miss Sweet and Sour. She just wanted to get bad boy rocker Nathan for help by doing a concert with her physically challenged choir group.
But Nate was the ex who had left town ten years ago. And he wanted to pick up where he’d left off!
Would Sasha agree to Nate’s outrageous demands? She was attracted to him, but was it just physical?
BACKSTAGE WITH HER EX is a fun and flirty romance with sensual scenes as well. While reading I had grave doubts about how Nate and Sasha would end up together. Nate was the LA bad boy rocker with girls plastered to him all the time. And Sasha was the prim teacher with different goals. They didn’t even want the same things. Do opposites really attract? But author Louisa George brought Nate and Sasha together with such fun, witty banter and tied them with emotional thread so tender yet so strong that it would leave readers gasping.
This is from the now defunct Harlequin Kiss line, a line I actively avoided because it was so confusing. There were HP writers and HR writers and the heat level was all over the place. Mostly I avoided it because of the chick lit tone in a lot of titles. (I don't mind chick lit - it's just not romance in my book). So, I read it because it was a library book - and I was pleasantly surprised.
This is a second chance romance between two characters who were both born on the wrong side of the London tracks and fell in love when they were teenagers. Hero was a bad boy who had a soft spot for two people - his downs syndrome brother and the heroine. Heroine was the good girl trying to deal with her father's suicide. Music brought them together, the hero putting a fellow student in intensive care split them up.
It's ten years later, heroine is a music teacher at their old high school and hero is a famous rock star who goes through women like M&Ms. Heroine is trying to raise money for a trip to a music competition for her "mixed abilities" choir and she wants the hero to join their benefit concert. Hero at first says no, but that old magic with the heroine is still there, so eventually he says yes. Now they're working together.
Quibbles: there are some fuzzy backstory motivations. Such as why the hero thought the heroine betrayed him when she wouldn't lie to the authorities about the hero putting a student in intensive care. She didn't know However, the biggest problem I had in the cold light of days, was how they are going to reconcile their two very different lifestyles. Heroine was a born teacher and I don't see how that's going to fit with hero's rich lifestyle.
That being said, I really enjoyed their journey. Heroine was a sweetheart - and no pushover. She really was a high school teacher - tough, yet kind with clear-eyed goals. The hero was not as admirable - but he grew on me as the story went on. He was so very smitten with the heroine that I don't think he would ever stray. I thought the author did a good job of not getting bogged down in their internal monologues (such a problem in the newer HPs!) so that the story moved right along. This is just a *nice* read with good people doing good things.
Every woman has at one stage come across a man so different from her and what she wants in life that getting involved will surely be your downfall, but resisting the badboy is always the hardest and in the case of most they fall at the first touch.
But after temptation comes the seeking of deeper meaning and the fun time fling with the badboy turns into a relationship. It is a relationship that you know will surely end for you can sense it coming but still in the name of love you cling, that is if you don't have a secret to protect and if the man himself sticks around long enough want to try and find out.
In the new Louisa George read this is the situation for Sasha, years ago she and badboy now turned rocker I'll-make-your-body-play-for-only-me Nate had a good thing going but he left and never looked back, leaving her behind to deal with the heartache.
Now a school teacher she has the chance to let her always helping others attitude shine through by helping the school choir make a success. Only to reach the dream for them she needs to pull in the help of Nate, the media attention would more than double the attention needed.
Only when she goes to ask him the look he gives her tells her all she needs to know, yes he will help her with anything she needs if she helps him by taking up where they left off. But Sasha is still the same insecure woman she use to be, holding on to a secret that prevents her from getting too up close and personal, and Nate is still the running away at the first sign of trouble, this will never work and it seems all they have is chemistry and no chance at a real relationship tied with roses and love.
The character of Sasha was very well written and I liked that the author linked her to real life in the sense that many woman are prim and proper on the outside simply because they need to scare off men because there is something that will prevent her from having a normal relationship and thus she feels that acting uptight will keep the advances away and her secrets will remain safe. I adored how the author let Nate drive Miss Prim and Proper from the stage and let the true star that is Sasha shine through, not dragged out over a too long period but rather with very slow and delicious scenarios. It kept the read light and fun.
The character of Nate was all kinds of sing for only me deliciousness! Him having his very own secret added to the brilliantness that was this read. I loved how the author let me be able to pick up on the secret but kept it hidden in little here and there hints. The author also let Nate feel extremely real and in the flesh to me as reader, yes with the descriptions of him being more than just sexy but also with the reasoning behind him rather running as soon as it gets too much, which is what a lot of people in real life do, you run when the going gets tough. The author using Sasha to draw out Nate from his star always on the go no time to stop attitude was truly awesome to read.
The backdrop settings and dialogue was fun, sexy, flirty, passionate and playful at all times, the author also gave me little emotional conversations that let me as reader know there is more to the secrets being kept and indeed when revealed it would bring the perspective of both characters and their actions into the open with a bang.
I am taking away a message of holding back and staying hidden simply because of a secret will only make it worse as the doubt will eat away at you and keep preventing you from moving past it. And most importantly we cannot always protect everyone we love but when given the chance take it and if you fail understand that it was beyond your control and at the time you did what you thought was best.
I highly recommend this read for all lovers of Louisa George's fun, flirty, sexy, sensual reads. A passionate, heartfelt read about not running away from anything in life. Truly a spectacular afternoon read!
5/5 star review " Opposites may attract but can they make it stick"
In Lousia George’s new novel Backstage with her Ex, Nate Munro has things handed to him a little too easily. And he thinks his highschool crush is just another groupie. But Sasha has a different agenda, she needs support from Nate to help raise funds so that the choir she teaches make it to a musical contest.
I have to admit at first I did not like the character of Nate. He was a little too arrogant. And thought because of his wealth, fame and money it could buy him anything he wanted. Having as many women as he wanted did not help either. While he did turn around by the time he went to Italy with Sasha, I am not sure as a reader I was buying his change where women were concerned. But I have to admit there is something about a bad boy that women just love! Not sure if it is the challenge or something else that makes them so appealing.
Now the character of Sasha I absolutely fell in love with. She devoted her time and her love to her gifted students and would do anything to help make their dreams come true. My only complaint with her character was I thought she fell into bed a little too easily with Nate. I cannot imagine going through what Sasha’s character endured when her father died. Louisa always seems to pull heart wrenching emotions out of her readers with her novels.
I did love the verbal exchanges between Sasha and Nate. And I especially thought that they connected really well when they went to Italy.
I highly recommend this to fans of Lousia George.
Favorite quote from the book: ‘”Target located? Is he still to die for? What about that ass?’”
4/5 stars I received a copy from the Author in exchange for an honest review.
I received this book from a goodreads draw, and i have to say i was pleasantly surprised. Yes you knew from the beginning that it was going to be a H.E.A. ending but it didn't take away any enjoyment of the story. The characters were lovely, and even though they were total opposites, it was obvious they were also totally one together and the same. They faced a few hiccups and tensions and finally both hard outer shells cracked as the story progressed. A totally enjoyable read
This was a fab book with great characters and a great story. I loved the relationship between Sasha and Nate, and the way they would spark off each other. They both had intense back stories and their actions within the story was very much due to their past. In typical mills and boon fashion there were times when I wanted to scream at them both to get their acts together but I loved being part of their journey.
Loved it. For a book that isn't very long I felt it really dug into the lives of Nate and Sasha. I actually appreciated that it did not have the big climatic blow up scene that is common in romances. They did go their separate ways but it was more subtle and a nice change from what I typically read. The chemistry is there from the moment the meet in the men's bathroom. looking forward to reading the next book in the series about Sasha's sister Cassis.
I received my copy of this book through a goodreads first reads giveaway. It's not normally the kind of book I would pick up but I thought I would give it a try. This book was really enjoyable. Both characters were relatable (even if one was a rock star) and I liked the way they both got past their issues.
I really liked this book, it wasn't as smutty as I thought it was going to be which I have to say, was a pleasant surprise. Everyone has someone that got away, and in this story it gets away twice, but they still fight to get it back. A cute love story with a happy ending
I received this book through goodreads giveaway and really enjoyed reading it. Loved the chemistry, the battling with feelings, wondering why when its suppose to be all so wrong, it feels all so right. Ima soppy cow and love a good ending
This was a cute, quick and well written read. a part of me wished it was longer as I would have liked to know the characters better but I will read Louisa George again, which is the best recommendation I can give any author.
The life of a celebrity and the life of a school teacher. Very interesting world, so far apart. This story had some humor to go along with a fairly good story line. Well done!
I picked up this book last week when Smart Bitches tweeted about it being on sale and a recent read. I guess I noticed that there weren't a lot of reviews on GR yet, but the ones that were up were decent, so I figured I'd give it a shot.
I thought the title and premise were intriguing. That's about all I liked about this book. The writing abilities of the author weren't bad, and there weren't a lot of grammatical errors or typos. The real issue with the novel was the author's habit of rehashing every issue almost constantly. Every time Nate or Sasha said something mildly dramatic, we didn't need to be told again why Nate was messed up or why Sasha was closed off. I felt like the author explains both of their issues almost constantly, on every page, and it grew really tiresome.
I also didn't really like how Nate and Sasha's little historical secrets were brought up at every turn, and then not fully explained until the end of the book. You knew Sasha had something going on with her dads death, and Nate had some issue with his brother, and the vagaries kept being rehashed, but nothing was truly revealed until the end of the book. It was really frustrating to know half the story, and by the time I found out what really happened, I didn't really care.
The last thing I'll get into was how easily Sasha and Nate would switch gears. There would be an argument between the two, where Nate is trying to get something out of Sasha and talk her down emotionally, and then there will be one tiny mention of something from Nate's past and all of a sudden they completely switch gears and Nate is the one that is now sad and emo. Serioiusly... what?? It didn't make any sense whatsoever.
It read like poorly written fanfiction from a new writer.
My advice to the author is to go out there and read some romance novels, read bad ones and read good ones, so you can learn what a great author writes about and how they convey their ideas.
If you're an avid read, and somehow you're still reading my review, I'm going to tell you straight out that you probably won't like this book.
Update: After having had more time to think about this book, I am also wondering why the author even made Nate a singer/performer. He almost never sings or performs in the actual book, and they just talk about his job, you never see him working what he is apparently awesome at. There should have been some clever cute song lyrics, and he probably should have sang romantically the Sasha at least once.
The gist: Sasha and Nate were a couple for two years when they were teens. They had a blow up that resulted in him leaving town and subsequently becoming a huge rockstar. Now Sasha has a favor to ask him, so she goes to his concert and gets back stage. The paparazzi end up camped outside her apartment, so he whisks her away in hopes some of the attention will die down. Their love is rekindled and then they need to figure out a way to make their two totally different lives blend together.
Sasha is seriously OCD. She makes lists for EVERYTHING and keeps tight control over every aspect of her life. Nate is the polar opposite, planning nothing and going with the flow. I sympathized with Nate, her OCD was seriously annoying. It was like torture to get her to let go for a minute. Both of them were seriously hurt and erected massive steel walls around their hearts at the implosion of their teen relationship thanks to a complete lack of communication and no closure. Nate is the typical, troubled, incredibly sexy hero and you can't help by wish you were the target for his affections! TOTALLY swoon-worthy. Asshole on the outside to protect his soft, gooey center. Completely delicious.
While I really liked the main characters, the story was just alright for me. There wasn't a whole lot to it, but it was alright. Simple. Sweet. Funny at times. Cheesy at times. All in all, a quick read that left me with warm fuzzies.
Hero and heroine were high school sweethearts who broke up when he was accused of beating someone up. He went on to become a rock star while she grew up to be a music teacher. She needs help to raise funds to get her show choir to contest (from London to Manchester) and her sister twisted her arm to go ask the ex-boyfriend to headline a show with the choir. And we're off on the story. The mess that is his present life causes some problems. The things from the past rear their ugly heads, including the thing she would never talk about. And they finally work their way through to the happy ending.
Sasha has an obligation to her students. She’s the chorus teacher to a group of special needs kids and they want nothing more to be able to go to a competition in Manchester. But like everything that happens in their impoverished district – it’s a challenge that Sasha hasn’t been able to rise to yet. She’s got an opportunity to ask a man from her past to help, but after the way they parted she’s not sure he’ll even want to talk to her. Read More
Everyone’s fantasised at one point or another about someone famous (I, for example, had a surreally delicious dream earlier this week in which I went on a date with Nathan Fillion) but very rarely does this ever translate to real life. Far more common is the concept that everyone knows someone who knows someone who knew a celebrity at school/when they were starting out. And that’s where Backstage with her Ex comes into its own...
This book was really a surprise for me. Both the narrator and author were new to me so I went in hoping for at least an okay story. What I got was a narrator that did an excellent job of capturing the different characters personalities (and accents) and pulled me into the story. The story itself was engaging and the perfect contemporary romance. If I had a problem, it was with the heroine; at some points throughout the story I wanted to smack her for her hypocrisy. I understood where she was coming from but it got on my nerves.
Loved this book from the very first page. The contrast between the two worlds and the different characters made this book very true to modern day life. Sasha is your average girl-next-door trying to overcome her insecurities from the past while Nate is your famous rock god fighting his past. A feel good story, i will keep on my shelves to read again sometime. Highly Recommend.
Big thanks to goodreads First Reads where I won a review copy of this book.
I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I found it well written and it had a 'cute' storyline with chracters that you can easily feel connected to. My only critique would be that it was too short... I wanted more.
Not entirely my thing, but well written and engaging anyway. I suspect someone who was really into rock star fantasies, or Glee future fic, would be ECSTATIC with this. I'm not terribly rock-star-fantasy prone, but even so I enjoyed it for the characters' backstory.
