This novel is for mature audiences due to harsh language and descriptive sex scenes.
I love it!! The setting of the book takes place in Hawaii which I really enjoyed. The characters were fantastic!! The story line was superb. It is a must read!!
I thought this was a great story. I loved how the author gave readers a POV from most of the main characters. I loved Chase. He was a great alpha-male. I thought Eric was a great friend to Skylar and Chase. The story did a great job of expressing the idea that we have to stop the self-loathing and learn to forgive ourselves of past mistakes. I can’t wait to read the second installment of this story.
Wow! Scarlet Wolfe amazes me again and I've read all her novels and short stories!!! This story in particular is the heart of the ocean! It's so beautiful and real and deals with fate and forgiveness and living with loss. I'm astounded and overwhelmingly satisfied!! I'm only sorry that this story is over!!! You NEED to read this novel!!!!
I first want to say I was sent this book from a goodreads giveaway but this is an HONEST review and all thoughts are my own. My review may be a little biased with less stars then I would normally give a book because I usually don't read these types of books. I probably didn't give it the praise and appreciation it deserves because I am not someone who loves these types of books or has read many books of this genre to compare. This is pretty much a erotica/romance. There wasn't a big description on goodreads of what this is about and it says it involves mature content so I figured this would be sort of like true blood series were they dont shy away from sex but there is still a great plot and some fantasy and alot of world and character building. So like I said my review is a little biased because I did not go into reading this book thinking it was an erotica. Ive only read two erotica books the first book I'm sorry i dont remember the name but it was just the bare minimum of a storyline and then tons and tons of sex and the women was submissive and the male was very aggressive. The second erotica book I read was the famous 50 shades of Gray and that book is more of what this book reminds me of. This book Mermaid and the King didn't have sex every two minutes like the first erotica book I read. This book had a real plot and romance. There is a period of time in the book where they are infatuated with each other so they have a lot of sex but there is a lot more to the story then sex which is refreshing. I guess it depends why you are buying an erotica whether its for purely a bunch of sex scenes with no real story or do you want a romance with a lot of sex in it? Why this book reminds me so much of 50 shades of gray is because Chase is a millionaire with a troubled past who is working through his traumas and because of this he has become cold and never wants to get close or love a girl until our main women character comes into the picture of course then everything changes ;). So he takes Skyla on these lavish dates and tries to buy her everything including a car which is exactly like 50 shades of gray. Also Chase is constantly worrying over Skyla and trying to protect her; but Chase is not nearly as drastic as Mr. Gray in 50 shades of Gray. Mr. Gray goes wayyyy overboard on worrying about the female lead over and over again and being hardheaded. controlling and protective but in this book Chase is not nearly as bad but he still has that side of him. The sex in this is very "vanilla" so the sex is nothing like 50 shades of Gray where you were dealing with bondage. This book has purely normal sex. This is book is told in 3 peoples perspective which is Skyla, Chase and Eric. It was interesting having the Male and Female perspective because usually I am just reading from the women's perspective but its interesting to see what each of them were thinking. It was hard for me to adjust at first though because right off the bat when Chase sees Skyla he is talking about when he first sees her and how he wants to "spank that ass of hers" and he has a "nice image to jack off too". I'm sure some guys think like this but the crude comments startled me. Especially since I always swoon over the male main character in books and they are usually described in a way that makes you want to be with them but Chases crude language made me instantly turned off by him. The 2 main characters have a Insta-love connection so if you hate those then just know that. There really isn't a love triangle there sort of is in the beginning but is soon realized that Skyla only wants one man. I do like the other characters in this book as well. "This is a story about friendship/love and self-discovery." It shows the struggles of the characters and what they need to do to overcome these traumas and how it is affecting not only their life but the lives of others around them as well. This book took me about 2-3 hours to read so it is a really easy read there is around 300 pages but the letters are big and the pages are small. This book is a little corny and cheesy at times and Skyla is constantly being called angel but overall I liked the story and read in from cover to cover. Ive never read any of Scarlets wolfe's other books before so this is my first one I did not realize there is a sequel? At the end it says A Voice for my Soul to Sing follows the story of Andy, Eric and Brooke. Scarlet Wolfe ties everything in a nice bow at the end of this book which i LOVE i cant stand when authors don't end a book properly or leave it open ended. The only thing she leaves open is Eric, Brooke and Andy. So it seems you don't need to read the sequel but if you want to find out what happens with the side characters Eric, Brooke and Andy then you want to read that book. Also in the back of the book it says she has written 3 books in a series called Soulmates.
The King and his Nixie! Chase and Skyla! What a perfect love story, how one guy dead or alive brings together two people along with a group and makes them stronger in themselves and as a group. Scarlet Wolfe has managed to create one of my top twenty love stories! Hats off and bring on book 2!

Free download. Ok so I've had this waiting for some time, I'm not sure why. Skyla moves to Hawaii to be close to her brother Lee and cousin Bud, but tragedy takes Bud from her and Lee is deployed to Afghanistan leaving Skyla alone in a strange place. Chase has been living in hell since tragedy took his best friend Bud away. His only light in his dark days is the beautiful girl who walks to his part of the beach every night looking out into the ocean. Will their paths cross? This was a sweet story with a nice plot. I guess you can say fate has a hand is Skyla and Chase's future. The characters are great, lots of angst and some very sweet and hot moments although I did find some of the writing and dialogue unrealistic. The story is enjoyable but I wish the story was more thorough. Overall a nice read.
First I like the disclaimer online that this is a fictional human not a mermaid. Too funny. This book was really good, loved the Hawiian setting. Felt really sad for Skyla so alone and inside her head. Chase is really a hero when they meet but you know there is something bad behind his story. This was an intense story, I liked the characters and nicknames. Skyla becomes stronger than her darkness and helps Chase see the light. Great read.
First of all, the vulgarity and the random sex really threw me off. Second, I didn't really fall for the romance between the two main characters, Chase and Skyla. What I did like was the friendships between the characters and I thought the nicknames were cute. Plot movement was decent but ultimately this was too predictable. It's more YA with sex.
Chase has a sad history and Skyla does as well. But who would guess that those histories are tied together in the worst way? What they have to decide is if they're going to punish each other and themselves for it. Chase puts up the best fight against the attraction growing between himself and Skyla but even he can't win against true love.
This was an awesome book and I love how it kept me on the edge and made my insides tighten when something exciting happened! Wow... just WOW! There are many words for this book but I think that you should read it to find out. My word would be "WOW"!
