Capture Me Slowly

Rate this book
Emma Wade has worked hard to create a stable life surrounded by people she loves. But when her dark past catches up with her, Emma fears she might not live long enough to testify against the man who hurt her all those years ago. Her only choice is to run. And if there is one thing Emma learned as a homeless teen, it was knowing when to sleep alone and knowing when to partner up.

Rhys Striker, the sexy ex-marine she shared a hot night with, is the only one she trusts with her secrets. But she learns quickly she’s not the only one running from something. And as both of their pasts threaten to take them under, she’ll have to choose between protecting her life and protecting her heart.

This book contains adult content and sexual scenes. Meant for readers 17+. (Adult Contemporary Women's - New Adult Fiction).

This story had the potential, but not such a great execution. I liked Emma's character, as well as, Rhys (even though I still don't know how to pronounce his name properly). I believe that they could have passion and a lot of fire between the two, but they lacked that necessary heat as well as purpose to make me believe their connection. Her epiphany techniques were also rather ... uninspiring. Either she doesn't breathe a lot, or when she does she could find oil!

I was a fan of the initial slow and steady pace, but then the middle of this story felt like we were stalling. The reveals were lackluster and the ending was too rushed. It was so rushed I expected a cliffhanger adn was thoroughly surprised to get a HEA at like literally the last two pages. That's what you call on the edge ;)

I understand her situation, but even a passing conversation with Meg would have been nice. Afterall, she is the female in the series that she is friendlier with. Might I say also, that I find this odd, because I don't even remember them having a fleeting conversation, before they were roomies and BFFs. Kate might have been believable, but Megan kind of threw me.

Updates were few and stagnant as oppose to how we left 'Possess me Slowly'. Even then, I didn't mind as much. Then things kept shifting, and still, that was fine. But then after a while, you have to ask, where exactly is this going? When will the action surrounding Emma's situation begin?

The climax of this novel was unexpected, but subtle. Too subtle. The action scenes of this novel, that we expected from beginning, was so fast and dismissive. She barely even did half they things she was taught. I would have also liked to see who came in after him, and the motions of this guy's demise. Guess with her dying and stuff, it wasn't as important ... for who, I'm not sure.

It also baffles me, that for a self-proclaimed big brother, who understands her life, Adam is rather absent. Life threatening injuries and she wakes up to her sex buddy mom? o.O ... Or whatever he was at that point. Adam seems to take a big back bench in this novel, and even though the why is revealed later on, I still believe he was too absent. Maybe a dual POV would have helped. But now we will never know.

I have ended this novel with the basics, and feel as if I still don't know Emma and Rhys as individuals. This has always been a fast series that broach the necessary, but I still walked away feeling some sense of peace or knowledge of the characters and their future paths.

While I understand their back story, I don't really know them. I also get the sexual tension, and feel that they are comfortable as a couple. But they are so comfortable, they could be sex buddies and nothing more. They are friendly. The passion wasn't as intense between these two and I honestly expected more from the sex scenes. Maybe that cupboard scene was the most intense and I blame it on him crushing her with that Adonis body that was hinted throughout.

I liked the little self defense sessions, and hope that there are some truth to it, because knowledge is power wherever we garner it. But all together, this book felt flat for me. Emma's snark and nonchalance did so much and no more. Mase obviously is a lazy stalker, because Rhys plan wasn't that good. Rhys seemed like a book boyfriend you could fall head over heels with. He just wasn't elaborated upon enough for me to get that connection.

Emma is to the point, in your face and I admire her penchant for deflecting and reacting the complete opposite to situations throughout the novel. But once again, this didn't help the development. It still fell short with lack of passion, intensity, proper mystery and basic satisfaction. While there was potential, the delivery left too much to the imagination. Maybe there is a novella or continuation in the works, I don't know. I think when this book ended, their story was just about to begin. Too bad we couldn't be a part of it.

Well this is the third book in Joya Ryan's outstanding Shattered series. This was also very good definitely five star read. I like the way Joya Ryan writes and will be looking into other romances she has written.

Emma Wade who grew up in foster care, has worked hard to create a stable life surrounded by people she loves. But when her dark past catches up with her, Emma fears she might not live long enough to testify against the man who hurt her all those years ago. Her only choice is to run. Rhys Striker, the sexy ex-marine she shared a hot night with, is the only one she trusts with her secrets. But she learns quickly she’s not the only one running from something. And as both of their pasts threaten to take them under, she’ll have to choose between protecting her life and protecting her heart.

Highly recommend this book and also the entire series I really enjoyed reading it. Sensual level I would put at a eight hot and sizzling.

That Emma was ugh I did not really enjoy this book and it's all the heroine's fault. Damn she was just one annoying person. Most of her actions were downright stupid .. the solution to all her troubles was just lying there but she was too stubborn to just use it. I did not like her at all .. sometimes I felt for her but then she'd open her mouth and well my sympathy evaporates instantly. Rhys deserved so much more. The stars are only for Rhys because he was a damn good character .. Emma could go take a hike to Mount Doom for all I care.

I got from amazon.com.au free thinking that it will WOW me but it didn't do much.

I just thought the story held its own and the characters were pretty good. There wasn't much but it did cover like everything in the short amount of time it took for me to read. But just before the ending it came to life and then that was it. So, overall I just thought it was an okay read.

This book was ok. The story was great for a short, simple read but all of the books in this series had a lot of typing/grammar errors on kindle unlimited which was distracting. The reason this I only gave this book three stars was because the kindle unlimited version didn’t even have an epilogue. It ended with chapter 12. Thankfully, I had finished the second half of this book on audible which did include the epilogue.

I was running trying to reach a safe place and finally saw the hotel ran inside upstairs where I knew your room was. But you wasn’t there so I pulled out a bobby-pin and started to work on the lock. Suddenly someone was behind me and I dropped the pin. I was safe you were here. You took me inside your room and tried to question me but I’m tough and I didn’t want anyone else to be hurt by the man chasing me.
Enjoy

This was a bit different as the h had more gumption than the previous h's in the series. It is a decent read but I got a bit frustrated with the climactic scene at the end. The security company must be horrible and the breakdown between the H/h at a pivotal moment was a bit much.

I gave it 3 stars as it was a decent read and the characters were multidimensional.

I like this one the most in the series.
Character development was much better and the chemistry was real good. Also the falling in love phase which usually happens with a bang was slow n sweet in this one.

I really liked this book and the chemistry between Emma and Rhys. She kind of got on my nerves at times and I hated that she just couldn't trust Rhys enough to tell him everything from the get go. I liked that the two of them coming together wasn't rushed and took time to develop.

Fantastic 🤓

Out of the three books in this series.. this one, this one right here blew it away. I enjoyed them all but this one came out of left field with a fantastic wonderful hard hot as heck story. Close to perfect. I didn’t want it to end. . That’s how you know it was good.

There’s a bit more action and answered questions in this book than in the first 2 books. Still very mid though.

Audio- nothing I dislike more then a whiney fmc. God she was the worst. I loved Rhys though. Also, the ending was horrible. Don't like the way it ended at all.

I listened to this series on Audiobook and listened to them back to back so I thought I would do a series review. Each of the novels had both strengths and weaknesses but overall I totally enjoyed the series and I would give the entire series a 4 star rating. The books individually did not always rate as high as that. I do have to say I love a 3 book series that has a beginning and an ending. I also liked that although each book was about a different character's story each on the previous characters had small roles to play in each story.

Break Me Slowly
This is the story of Katelyn and Adam. I totally connected with these characters. I was worried at first that Katelyn was going to be mousey but she had issues and worked through them. Adam came on a bit strong but in the end they totally suited each other. This all being said..yes it was a solid story and was easy to read but there were definite issues for me with the book. The scene between Adam and Katelyn after they met his father at the restaurant was just wrong. It almost made me turn off the book and toss it. I also felt that the story build up took 95% of the book and then the ending was totally rushed and almost anticlimactic. There were parts of the story that confused me the whole Grace, Tim, Brian and Megan thing..I found out later this was a set up for book 2..but at the end of this novel I just sorta went HUH..what the heck was that all about. So for me..this was a 3 star read...I did like it enough to go right to book 2...oh and this was an up all night listen for me...I was captivated with the characters.

Possess Me Slowly
We met Megan in book 1 as Katelyn's supportive best friend. After book 1 ended Megan had a lot happen and she moved to NYC. Megan and Preston's story was a better read and a more unique relationship. The timing again was so fast..and that took me out of the story for a bit..cause I was kinda blinking...from 1 night together he decided to offer her a bargain? Anyway I did shake that off and got engrossed in the story. I liked that Preston although he had hard edges was a softer and more likable character overall than Adam..he offered a more fully dimensional character..I also liked that Megan had more force of character but allowed her guilt to manage her life. Over all really enjoyable and I liked that the Katelyn/Adam storyline was wrapped up a bit better for me in this novel.
This was a 4 star listen for me...and I"m Captivated by the characters so after once again being up all night to listen..I went straight into book 3

Capture Me slowly
Going into this story I liked the Emma that we met in books 1 and 2 she was a bit mysterious but seemed to be polished and nice. This was not the Emma we read about in this book. The Emma in this book was uptight, screetchy, and over all not very likable. Yes, she came from a very nasty past..very nasty but Adam rescued her from that...she had therapy..but this did not come across in the story. Rhys saved the story for me...I really liked him and felt that Emma was a nasty b-otch to him. He seemed to go out of his way to accommodating to her...and the trouble she got into, he also seemed to be a more rounded characters with his background and what made him tick. I admit the twist at the end was interesting and if I was Emma..THIS is the time I would have b-otched him out and gave attitude..more than she actually did. I liked the suspense this story offered and the epilogue that tied up all the loose ends for all the couples...Over all this was a 3star read..I would have rated it higher if I didn't feel that all Emma did was yell at Rhys. This created an absolutely no chemistry couple for me...yes there was steam..but it was missing that vital connection that makes a couple work for me.

Overall a 4 star series...I enjoyed it and would recommend it. I will try more novels by this author.

4.5 out of 5 Licks

Capture Me Slowly is the last book in the Shattered Series by Joya Ryan. This story focuses on Emma and Rhys. Emma is on the run from a past she’s tried hard to forget. She doesn’t want to risk the lives of the few people she cares most for, preferring to run and attempt to deal with the trouble on her own. Only, she’s unable to outrun it. When she met Rhys, the sexy veteran turned security company owner there was an instant attraction. She chose to believe the attraction was solely based on the physical. Rhys had a different impression having been taken by the petite dark haired vixen.

On the run, she agrees to stay in a far away cabin that Rhys owns back in his hometown. There she learns a lot about the man behind the war wounds, his family, his ex, and even more about herself. Turns out, she’s not as cold as she thought she was and when things heat up between the two it’s burning hot.

I loved Ms. Ryan’s characters from the first two novels Break Me Slowly and Possess Me Slowly and this one did not disappoint. Emma’s internal thought processes are filled with insecurities and angst that made her character very real and relatable. Rhys is every woman’s dream boat. Handsome, built, protective, hardworking and he loves his Mama. What more could you ask for in a hero?

Love the characters struggle. Both characters would get a medal if bickering was the game. Overall I gave Ms. Ryan’s latest novel 4.5 licks out of 5. A half a point down only because the novel was a bit shorter than the first two and I’m a greedy little kitty, I always want more Joya Ryan!

I'm a fan of this author and this series but I had to stop this one. It was awful. I think I stopped reading at 40%. The h has a really wealthy brother but still keeps herself poor and will not use her trust money. She has been in trouble for a while because she has to testify against some guy and his brother keeps trying to kill her. So instead of going to her brother who has a lot of money to protect her, she is constantly on the run. She meets this other guy, the H, and keeps throwing herself at him for sex even though he says no. I mean she was slutty. She grew up on the street, raped at 12, and became another's man's slave at 15. She is mouthy, opinionated, and frustrating. She knows how to pick locks and was breaking into the H's hotel room when he caught her. She needed a place to hide from the bad guy so the H lets her sleep in his bed while he sleeps on a couch. She keeps trying to get him to do the dirty and he declines. Then she wakes up in the middle of the night and again throws herself at him. The H was a sweet guy which is fine but I wish he was more manly and dominant. Really didn't like the h and so I stopped reading b/c I couldn't care less about her finding a resolution to her problems or getting a HEA.

Capture me Slowly is the third book in the Shattered Series. Each book can be read as a stand-alone. I enjoyed this book but not as much as the first and second book in the series. The middle of the book just fell a little flat for me but the last part seemed to pick back up. One issue I had with this book (and have run into lately with other books) is that I just didn't think the heroine was very smart. To me, if your in danger and on the run and the head of one of the top security agencies in the country begs you to let him help you, you accept.End of story. Also, she continually pushed the Rhys, the hero away, but then was surprised when he backed off. Obviously, nothing new here for the romance genre. Perhaps, just in a book funk, but just felt kind of meh...

For the length of the books, I think the Joya Ryan does a good job balancing story and steam factor. I'm not sure what the author has planned for the series but I'll definitely read future books.

A 3.25 STAR.

Perfection!

I have been pulled into the world of broken alpha males that Ms. Ryan has created. Each story turning up the heat my desire for more. But, not until now have I felt completely satisfied. Rhys and Emma were the best!

I don't know what it was or why, but Emma was my favorite character from the start. Her brash forward and loving manner just spoke to me. The mystery that surrounded her through the first two stories made me hungry to know her. The story...her story didn't disappoint.

I'm thrilled with every laugh, tear and bead of sweat that I got from this story. Broken and beautiful, I'm in love with these two. Ms Ryan you have bewitched me and left me wanting more. I want to know what gender the baby is. I want to know if they keep the cabin. Hell, I want to know if Rhys puts her to work for him. Mainly I just want more of these amazing stories.

Third book I have read from Joya Ryan and all of them read in the same day. It was that entertaining and just loved how the friends got their happy endings.

Although this book was the least of my favorite amongst the three, I still enjoyed hearing about Emma and Rhys.

If anybody deserved a happy ending, it is Emma. The things she went through as a child, I cannot imagine myself as being as strong and survive the experience. Yeah, she had hangups but who wouldn't. So glad she found her fairy tale with Rhys.

Would have loved this more if a tragic painful ending had befallen the Castor brothers :)

Again another fabulous book by Joya Ryan. I have loved this series and think that Joya is an amazing writer!!! Love the storyline and the characters are fabuolous. Love that the book is complete at the end with no cliffhangers, but with the characters being apart of the next books as secondary roles. Rhys...what a hotty and Emma is such a strong woman....absolutely perfect for each other!!! Look forward to more books by Joya!!

This book followed two amazing sister books and I was so excited to start it. It started out slow and I had a hard time getting myself to finish it. The overall story was great, a little different than the first two but great non the less but is was very slow. I think whole book could have been written in about 10 chapters. Nonetheless, it was good and worth the read to complete the story of 3 lovely ladies.

I suspect that I was expecting more. Emma and Rhys story wasn't bad. It just felt like there was something missing. The big reveal at the end added a bit of "drama" to the story but it was a bit too little, too late. Rhys and Emma were a bit dull...not character wise per se but romantic wise. Sure their passion was written to be steamy but it almost felt rote, especially if you read the first two books in the series. I didn't dislike the story, I was just expecting to be wowed and I was not.
