The travel market to Africa is very broad. This work offers coverage of Africa's 49 countries. It features: more than 200 detailed maps; useful Language chapter; and health and safety tips. It provides information about sustainable travel and volunteering opportunities.
OUR STORY A beat-up old car, a few dollars in the pocket and a sense of adventure. In 1972 that’s all Tony and Maureen Wheeler needed for the trip of a lifetime – across Europe and Asia overland to Australia. It took several months, and at the end – broke but inspired – they sat at their kitchen table writing and stapling together their first travel guide, Across Asia on the Cheap. Within a week they’d sold 1500 copies and Lonely Planet was born. One hundred million guidebooks later, Lonely Planet is the world’s leading travel guide publisher with content to almost every destination on the planet.
Grandly extensive, but outdated by a decade. It's a nonetheless a very interesting look into all the african countries for the curious geography nerd or travel emthusiast. There is a mix of a high level overview of culture + history as well as info on accomodations, where to visit, logistics on visas and transportation. Also, a section for woman travelers for every country was included, which is wonderful and important.
Outdated. Some relevant information. Focused on Namibia, South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Tanzania (Zanzibar). Trip Advisor helped lots. Lack of information though- in general for me. LP Thorn Tree shut down, not a lot of these types of sites I could find and I really wanted to. Slow net made it difficult to keep opening pages in TA .. le sigh. I made it.
Fantastic guide through all the countries in Africa. After reading some of this though there are many countries that would cross off my list. Our usual suspects like Sudan Somalia Eritrea the Congo but Southern Africa seems so beautiful that's one tanzania Zambia Mozambique would love to see.
2022 Book #69 Africa (Travel Guide) by Lonely Planet; 14th edition ⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ (3.5/5)
I read selected chapters: Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa, Ghana, Egypt and Morocco. Great overview of each country and tourist highlights. Lots of places to dream about visiting one day!
This book has been very usefull to me in knowing Africa more comprehensively. A lot of informations are provided ranging from the basic/common infos to a very detail ones such as cost of public transport, bottle water, gasoline, etc. It contains information on most of the important places in Africa. For travelers..., this book is a must..!!.
Yea. I read the whole thing. Information about all 53 countries. That's just how obsessed I am with the Motherland. My biggest problem with the book is I wanted more historical information/background about each of the countries and I found that to be the weakest aspect of the book.
This is a great book for someone interested in traveling the entire continent. But a little over whelming if traveling to one or two countries. Of course, with a Ebook, the extra size is meaningless.
Another excellent guide from Lonely Planet, but too big with not much info on each region. Use for general planning and then download just the parts you need from the LP site.
