When Danni Montgomery - a survivor of a rebel raid on an African village fifteen years earlier - had been rescued from the grips of Obasanji, the rebel leader of that army, she'd thought she'd lost her soul forever. Now, a new fear lurks within the confines of her world. Danni receives a cryptic letter written by her uncle Roland, her only living relative, who has mysteriously disappeared somewhere deep within the African Congo. The letter speaks of a fantastic discovery, one that will change the fate of the troubled United States from China's imminent attack. A rare earth element known as Promethium, the missing element needed for the completion of Viper 6, an unprecedented stealth missile that will shift the position of world leader back to the United States. Now, Danni is leading a team of mercenaries of her own, led by the charming and all-to-perfect Kayden Moreau, on a journey into the harsh, remote corners of the Congo. A journey where Danni makes a phenomenal discovery of her own. While searching for her uncle and his remarkable find, Danni comes face to face with the demon of her nightmares, and learns he is the only one who can help find her uncle and save her country. Consumed by hatred, Danni must make a choice: in order to secure the safety of her uncle and the fate of the United States, she must decide if she will forgive the man who murdered her mother and changed her life forever, or will her desire for revenge prove stronger than she can bear...

The Consequential Element is a good pacey read with a strong female lead character haunted by her violent and historic past as a captive in war torn central Africa.
Years later her past comes back to her when she receives a valuable package from her uncle who has disappeared in the African bush. The package holds the key to a new rear earth element (REE) that can change or strengthen the balance of world politics and power for years to come.
The only trouble is, Danielle does not know who she can trust as the CIA and other agencies race to track her and the package down. The chase is on and the manhunt takes her and some mercenaries to central Africa and the where the plot thickens and more friends and foes enter the fray where the good and the bad are interchangeable and no one is who they appear to be.
In a desperate struggle between her previous captor, the Chinese hell bent on getting the REE and local militia, Danielle must stake all to save her uncle and those closest to her when the bullets fly and the converging elements meet in the final confrontation.
I was so into this book, it was amazing!! If I could give it more then 5 stars I would. I stayed at the edge of my seat from beginning to end. When u think u have things figured out, something else happens. Danielle A.K.A "Danni" was was kidnapped at a young age. She was found and brought home by her loving Unkle. Danni to me is brave, courageous. and of great mind. I loved her throw the hole book OnE day she received a package from her Unkle, on the run!! While trying to figure out what to do she runs into a man named Kayden. Kayden was hired to protect Danni.
I absolutely loved this book. Thank u Ms. Dee for sharing nuttin talent with us. P.S Can't wait till the next book comes out. I will be looking.
Seriously this is a must to read her character was strong willed I could say Dee Ann had her work cut out for her, the research she would have done on this book would have taken her a while. But in the end she brought to life an ass kicking novel, i'm just so impressed how a walk in the jungle became a rescue mission but for Danielle it was all about revenge. In the end this novel so intrigued me that it made me see what she had seen. The black ops, the rescue, the uncertainty, the pain, the suffering and I am so glad she even gave us romance. Still she left me hungry for more and I so look forward to Danielle's and Kayden's continuing story.
From start to end left me with chills, fire and excitement, bring on the next one I'm ready.
Set in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, The Consequential Element is a political thriller with an edge. The protagonist, Danielle Montgomery, is a former child soldier in Africa who is rescued by the US military and sent out of the country to safety. The man partially responsible for her rescue is her uncle Roland Dupre. Fifteen years later her past is far behind her, or so she thinks until Uncle Roland finds a cave that is the source for a rare earth element, Promethium that is coveted by the US and Chinese military. Needing to protect the location of the cave, he sends his niece a book containing part of the code before he goes missing. Throw in the rebel commander who once captured her and therein lies a tale. Danielle is a fractured heroine in the true antihero sense. Determined to rescue her uncle who has vanished, she is forced to rely on Kayden Moreau, a former marine now working for the private sector but Kayden has secrets of his own. These two unlikely partners are bounced from America to Africa where they find betrayal, friendship and loyalty against a kaleidoscope of colours, smells and sounds. She will find that not all who profess friendship are true friends and she will have to rely on instinct and experience if she is to survive. As a main protagonist she works well although I found the continual bouncing around between two different men a little far fetched, especially when her life is continually at risk. I would imagine in a real life scenario when you are being chased by gun-toting rebels that love would be the last thing on your mind. Staying with the bouncing around aspect, one thing that irked me was a failure to signal a new location when you suddenly find yourself shifted from one location to another in the following chapter. With a country the size of Africa it does help to ground the reader even if it’s a short sentence at the start of each chapter or scene change, giving you the country, town and perhaps a time. That I feel would have elevated the book in my eyes, but with that being said some people prefer that style of writing. The subject matter seems well researched although I wouldn’t consider myself an expert on Africa, it feels as if the author has indeed been there. The action scenes are well done and refreshingly free of clichéd moves and lines. I find many action scenes in other books almost a carbon copy of the ridiculous gunfights on tv, and as a former gun owner I know what you can and cannot do with a gun. Danielle and her companions/enemies thankfully don’t stray into the realm of fantasy in that regard. In summary, The Consequential Element is a good first book. It reads well and she winds the story up at the end but leaves enough loose ends dangling for a possible sequel. The characters could have done with a little more development to flesh them out but we can always say that after the book is written, others may disagree with me there. Nevertheless writers shouldn’t be afraid of writing longer books if that’s what it takes to flesh out characters. I’d give the book four stars out of five and look forward to the next book by Dee Ann Waite.
The story grabs you from the prologue when the heroine, Danielle, is rescued by her uncle from her kidnappers who have had her for almost three years. Danielle has many demons she must wrestle with over the next several years. However, we don’t see this as we meet Danielle next as she receives a mysterious package from her uncle that sets her off on a wild ride from Boston to upstate New York and then on to Africa. The adventure makes the pages fly past as the hero, Kayden, comes on the scene to try and keep Danielle safe. Initially, they mix like oil and water. When the sparks start to fly they ignite in flames until the bad guys start shooting at them and they form a fragile truce that strengthens and weakens throughout the book. The adventure takes off as Danielle searches for her uncle and Kayden tries to keep her safe while fending off the bad guys.
There are numerous editing or proof reading problems that take the reader out of the story. There is one point where the good guys are trekking across the jungle and the guide tells them that it will be getting dark very quickly in the Amazon, because they are closer to the equator. Problem is, they started their trek in Africa and there was no mention of them crossing the Atlantic. Another example is when the hero dives into the river but is propelled through the air from the repercussions of a hand grenade. If he is in the water, he can’t be sent into the air, or if the grenade sends him into the air, he is going to be full of shrapnel. When he turns up floating on the surface of the river, the only injury he experiences is temporary blindness from the explosion. More attention to the details would have made this a very excellent book but as it is, it is good.
I won this book in a Goodreads Giveaway in exchange for an honest review. Danni Montgomery had escaped from Obasanji ( a rebel leader), in the Congo when she was a young girl. She hates him and wants revenge. She receives a mysterious letter from her only living relative, Uncle Roland, announcing that he has found a rare mineral Promethium that the US needs in order to complete the Viper 6, a missile needed in order for the US to remain the Number 1-Superpower in the world. China also wants this mineral and will stop at nothing in order to obtain it. Now Uncle Roland disappears and Danni goes back to Africa looking for him and the answers to his cryptic letter. She hopes to find her uncle, the answers to riddles in the letter and obtaining the mineral for the US. She is accompanied by Kayden Moreau, a mercenary, and some friends from her previous life in the Congo. She runs into her most hated enemy Obasanji and must decide what means more to her-revenge and hatred or forgiveness and moving on with her life, while getting the mineral for her country.
Eek that was superb! Real fast okay go- this book had like a thousand twists and turns it was amazing and I loved how every loose end was covered, even with things I didn't remember. I also loved how each character was put into first- person for a moment to truly understand their story and their reasons for what they did, and also to never be able to truly hate anyone or paint them a villain. The only tiny thing I have to say I didn't like was how fast Kayden came to develop feelings for Danielle. But it later on made up for it and overall this was a fabulous story, and since I'm actually Nigerian and have seen Africa, I very much commend this book's accuracy of the setting. Great read everyone and anyone should most definitely read!(: Also thanks so much for the free version of this book Dee Ann Waite good job!
Dee Ann Waite's The Consequential Element was a tour de force. I was hooked from the first page. I enjoyed reading the book mostly because the characters were so well-developed and enjoyable to read that I felt like I knew them. What I also liked about the book was that it not only had great characters, but an amazing storyline that was filled with drama and suspense. I found it to be hard to put down once I picked it up.
I highly recommend this book to anyone that is looking for a great read! Five Stars!!!
I quickly became engrossed in this book. I have read my fair share of thrillers and this ranks with some of the best, especially as this appears to be her debut novel. It contains all the elements (excuse the pun!)you would expect from a thriller - fast moving, lots of action, a political twist, espionage, as well as depicting the sheer brutality that exists in some areas of Africa. There is feisty lead female and unexpected ending, leaving the story wide open for a sequel, which I will definitely be reading!
This book plays to the full range of emotions; the characters and storyline are so real you feel as if you're reading non-fiction. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll become angry, and you'll become enlightened. Danielle Montgomery proves that women not only survive but emerge as victors from the battles of life. A strong, moving, and emotional ride on a fast paced, action packed, thrill ride from the streets of Boston to the jungles of the Congo.
I love this book so much! The story is such well thought out story line that has you intrigue from the beginning to the end ,and wanting more in it.The characters are all very interesting with such depth in them it makes you think you are right along with them in the book. The details of the story are well done that shows it was well thought out .I highly recommend this for any one Dee is such a very talented writer who I know will be seeing her works for years as they are timeless classics .
The Consequential Element was fast-paced and well-written. The author bridged effectively from one story thread to another, something that is not always easy to do. It keeps you guessing, and has elements of suspense, mystery, and intrigue. It is action packed. I look forward to reading more by this author. There is some language, so I would issue a caution for parents of younger readers. Besides the twist and turns within, I just love the title.
the consequential element by dee ann waite.... received this book from goodreads yesterday. all the reviews i've read about this book have been very positive so, i'm really looking forward to reading it. after reading the back cover i'm positive it will be a good book. can't wait to read it. will be back to edit my review after i've read it.
An exciting story with strong characters and global implications. I found it hard to put down. Thanks to Goodreads First Reads contest for selecting me to win this great book. I am looking forward to the sequel.
Good story, lots of action and intrigue , and a little romance. Only two mistakes noted - river mentioned was the Amazon, which is in South America, not Africa. Also, don't know if there are piranhas in Africa. Otherwise, a good story, and I'm looking forward to the next one.
