Have you ever wondered if monsters have mommies and daddies? It turns out monsters families are a lot like our families. This monstrous tale about parents and family is perfect for children aged eight and under.

I was born in California to a military family. This meant that I was the "new kid" in school every couple of years. It was hard always trying to make new friends, but I discovered I had a knack for writing. I began writing poetry in high school and really enjoyed expressing myself by using pen and paper. After becoming a Mom in 2003, I continued my storytelling to my own children. In 2009 I wrote and published my first children's book aimed at toddlers. In 2012 I am set to release several more children's books. Check out what I'm working on by visiting my children's book blog.
I also write a blog about living on a gluten-free diet. I love to cook so I share my recipe successes and failures as I continue living without gluten.
Writing is such a wonderful creative process and I look forward to sharing more of my stories with lots of new little readers!
We thoroughly enjoyed Monsters Have Mummies. This delightful picture book tells us all the ways that monster mummies care for their young ones, be it holding them tight in the night and calming their fears, or tying their shoes and brushing their hair. But that's not all, Monsters have Daddies too, who wrestle and tackle and like to explore or read with silly voices and funny looks. I read this with my toddler and she listened and watched every page as I explained what the monster mummy and daddy's do. This gave me a great opportunity to help her to draw the parallels for what mummy's and daddy's do for little girls just like her. Every page has a new and different and endearing type of monster which we absolutely loved. A truly lovely book that we recommend for children ages 2-6.
My son (6) and I reviewed this book for Mother Daughter Book Reviews. Here are some of our thoughts.
SON SAYS:
The book is about monsters who have mommies and daddies who do things with them. They are all nice monsters and they are not scary. I think all of the pictures are really good. I really like the picture of the monsters playing peek-a-boo because I like blue and the monsters are blue in that picture. I like the part of the book where the monsters are eating using their noses because it’s funny. They have pet monsters too! I really liked the book because it was funny and the monsters were funny. The story reminded me of stuff I do with my Mommy and Daddy. I think little kids under the age of six would like this book and I don’t think they would be scared of the monsters.
MOM SAYS:
Monsters Have Mommies uses simple rhyming verses, wonderfully entertaining illustrations, and a straightforward underlying message to help reduce the fear of monsters in young children. I highly recommend this book to young children who are feeling a bit frightened around Halloween time or at any time of year. Ages 2+

My 2.5 year old daughter and I were absolutely thrilled to win a copy of this book! It was very exciting to get it in the mail today and of course, we HAD to read it before bedtime tonight :)
This is an absolutely delightful children's book! It is utterly charming and written in a style and cadence that caught (and kept) my daughters attention. There are beautiful, colorful and unique illustrations on every page that perfectly accompany the text. Monsters Have Mommies is the type of book we need at the moment as my daughter is just discovering the concept of "family", I feel like it will answer a lot of her questions in a fun and entertaining way.
I am sure that this book will become a family favorite, finding itself in the company of many others that are read each and every night before bed. We look forward to finding and reading other children's books by Angela Muse :)
Angela Muse has once again produced a wonderful book for toddlers and early elementary aged children! The illustrations by Ewa Podles` are brightly colorful adding to the child's reading enjoyment. A story each child will certainly love, is perfect for any time of the year.
This is a great way one can emphasize some of the things mommies and daddies do for their children!
My review of this book rates it with Five Stars.

My son and I were excited to win a copy of this book. He couldn't wait to read it when it came in the mail.
This is a fun book. The illustrations are eye catching and match the text well. The cadence of the writing keeps the reader interested. We enjoyed reading this beautiful book!
It is definitely geared towards the younger ages. My 6 year old read this book to me. He said he liked it however it was a bit young for him.
This book is a delightful story told in rhyme about monsters and their families. It helps children understand family relationships and at the same time allays the fears of children about monsters by making them more human. It is a sweet and adorable story that children will love to read again and again.
This is a lovely children's book and i look forward to sharing it with my grandchildren.
This book has lots of different monsters who have similar lives as anyone else. They cry and they fear. Very easy to use this book in a classroom and be a success. Kids love monsters, and cute monsters too. The format on kindle shows the pages in a weird way though.
I enjoyed this sweet book for young children about families. I loved the monster illustrations. I liked the story as it rhymed. I think that young children will like the story and the illustrations. I received a copy of the book and gave an honest opinion.
What a sweet book. Yes, Monsters do have mommies, daddies, and siblings too, making a lovely family unit just like yours.
Written in rhyme, the author points out all the love given by both parents to their special little Monsteretts: playing peek a boo, cuddling them at night, helping with their grooming needs, calming fears, fixing boo boos when they occur, roughhousing in the backyard with daddy, helping with homework that must get done and helping their little ones discover the amazing world that is all around them, just to name a few. Of course the one that is closest to my heart is the monster daddy who is snuggling his Monster-tot and reading to him under a tree .
The illustrations are clear, vibrant and enrich the text greatly. This book is a perfect catalyst to share how your family functions and of course to reinforce the love and care that members of your family provide for one another.
Even though differences can occur ...
"Although sometimes they might not always agree, And they may fight with members of their family tree, Monster Families have lots of love to share Just like your family, they truly care."
At first, I was a bit reluctant to say that 'Monsters Have Mommies' by Angela Muse was appropriately age-graded. But, after looking at it, I changed my mind. Despite the title, the drawings are so cute, it's hard to imagine them traumatizing a child. And, the lesson, that families come in all flavors, is a good one for children to learn.

Monsters have mommies and daddies and pets. They have familiies just like us. Sometimes they disagree but usually they like doing things for each other.
