Blood and Tears #1

It's A Crime

Wealthy New York socialite Grace Preston uses men for amusement, holding her heart inside an ice fortress for protection. Spurned by a sociopathic male model, Grace picks up a new man with all the right moves; smooth as bourbon, Cole slides under her wall and touches her in places she thought were well-guarded. But after a weekend of fiery passion, he leaves, devastating her. Cole Grayson has spent ten years building his commercial real estate firm and chasing the arsonist who killed his family when he was a boy. Women are a dalliance, and have no place in his personal quest. Then Grace rocks his world-not only sexually, but in her arms, his nightmares cease. To protect her, he pushes her away; he's close to finding the culprit and Grace must not get tangled in the cross-fire. When women matching Grace's description start turning up dead in Central Park, Cole is forced to divide his influence between personal revenge and protection for the woman he has come to love. But throwing money at the problem only goes so far. Grace is in danger-can he get to her in time?

C.E. Hansen writes at the intersection of high-stakes power and the hidden truths of the city. With a keen eye for the "invisibles" and a fascination with the psychological acoustics of trauma, Hansen’s thrillers explore the thin line between justice and obsession.

A native observer of the urban maelstrom, Hansen’s work is defined by a "Silk and Gravel" aesthetic—where Manhattan luxury meets the unvarnished reality of the courtroom. In addition to the legal tension of A Sliver of Doubt,

Hansen is the author of It’s A Crime, It’s A Shame, Act Accordingly, Faithless, Ever, Sara, and Where I Found My Heart, establishing a reputation for building high-tension narratives around characters made of stone and the advocates brave enough to make them bleed. The 2024 Revised Edition of A Sliver of Doubt represents Hansen’s definitive, sharpened vision of the Jackson trial.

Expanding beyond the world of suspense, Hansen is also the author of the young adult novel Unlikely Hero and the children's book One Acorn, One Tree, One Friendship.

It’s A Crime is a story about two people, Cole and Grace, who randomly meet one night. Cole is in town for business, Grace is at her favorite bar with her best friend Michelle after a particularly bad day. They are both instantly attracted to one another. Each has their own reasons, but neither are looking for a relationship. Grace may not want a relationship, but she wants Cole, and she can tell he wants her as well.
Grace, go for it; you can always blame it on the bourbon.

So they decide to do the one night only, no strings attached thing. Grace and Cole have an amazing night together...well, an amazing weekend together. Lets just say it’s scorching hot. Cole has never been with a woman like Grace. Beautiful, confident, she is just different. There is something about her. Cole is handsome, sexy, stubborn. Even though Grace didn’t want anything with anyone, she starts to feel things for Cole. They are more alike than they know.
I know... I see an emptiness inside of you. I recognize it- I have that same emptiness.

The two of them have to figure out what they want, what they are doing with each other. While all this is going on, there is also another big storyline. Murders are happening in the city. All of the woman being killed have the same ‘look’ as Grace. As we get looks into Cole and Grace’s past and present, we also get scenes from the murder’s past and present, and a few scenes with detectives, Grace’s mother etc. Sometimes it almost seemed like there was too much going on. When everything started to come together, things were more connected than you would ever imagine. Cole and Grace are more connected then you would imagine...

Murder, mystery, humor and sex combined make for great components of a novel. I liked the story, but towards the last 25% I started to lose interest for a bit. When the ending came, there wasn't much to figure out. If you had been paying attention, you knew exactly who was who and what was what. Seeing the reactions of the main characters when they found out was a little more shocking. I liked the two m.c’s. Grace and Cole had chemistry, passion, and there was a ton of hot sex- a ton! It was interesting to see how the story lines and characters intertwined and came together. If you are looking for a sexy, suspenseful read, this was very entertaining. A good read at 3.5 stars.

Sexy,Suspenseful and HOT!

I really enjoyed this one! It's a Crime by C.E. Hansen reminded me why I've always liked the Romantic Suspense genre.. and although this one was not real suspenseful, it had just enough to add a bit of nail biting.

First we've got Grace Preston.. she's gorgeous, has money, owns her own boutique, and has a great bff. She lost her fiancé 5 years ago and even though she's pretty much got past the loss.. she still feels like no one else could take his place. She's not looking for a relationship...

Then we've got Cole Grayson.. extremely sexy commercial real estate mogul. He also happens to be a billionaire. He's suffered loss also... losing his family as a young teen he closed himself to the outside world. The only thing he wanted to do was make a name for himself..but even more so, he wanted to find the person responsible for killing his mother, father, and little brother. He'll never be able to let his demons go until he gets revenge.

Grace and Cole meet each other for the first time at a local bar called Luke's. It's lust at first sight.... Cole is just in town for business.. he owns one of the hotels and has a permanent penthouse suite..so they go back to his place that night and holy hotness!! OK.. listen up.. we've got some serious sexy times going on here.. Ms. Hansen did not skip on the details at all. I'm a details kinda girl and whoa.. these were just the type of scenes that I LOVE.

Here's a little sample..

He began circling his pelvis, stirring me from the inside, slowly rolling his hips. I lifted my hips up to meet his, matching him thrust for thrust, moving in tempo with him as one.

I arched my hips. He grabbed my ass and pulled me up to his mouth. As he dipped his tongue into the center of my sex, I became undone. He then plunged his tongue inside me, flicking the tip against my clit, until there was no stopping the bliss spreading through me. I held his head in position as I came hard, full and complete.

OK.. you get the picture.. HOT

So as Grace and Cole are getting to know each other and both are falling quickly.. Cole is still keeping himself at a distance. He wants Grace, but he can't let himself have her. He's not ready and wont be until he gets his revenge on the guy that killed his family. While all this is going on..there is a crazy psycho serial killer out there..killing girls that look just like Grace and it appears Grace may be his ultimate target.. but why?

I will say that the coincidence and the connection between Cole, Grace, and the crazy dude was a bit far fetched... I still really enjoyed it. I figured out who the baddy was early and you probably will too but that didn't take away from the story.

I read this one in one day, didn't want to put it down.. I was really enjoying the story of Grace and Cole. We've got some super hot sex, a little suspense, a crazy dude, and an hea.

I'd recommend it if you love some good sexy times with some suspense thrown in and have a thing for tongue talented billionaires.. ;)

First I will say that other people wrote reviews here and commented about that 50 book. I will say this book is NOTHING like that book. There is no BDSM, no secret pain room, no flogging and all that crap. This is a very well thought out and planned erotic suspense novel. Anything but a glowing review leads me to shake my head and wonder what they missed. The elements of family, love and a lot of steam are all there.
Wealthy New York socialite Grace Preston uses men for amusement. She is a very womanly being. I think she is very conflicted between being secure and insecure. When she is dating a model Jonathan and nothing happens she is confused. Going over things in her head it just doest make sense who he has not made a move. After her tragic engagement is over it is hard for her to get over Craig. I mean her was her "IT" She becomes baffled thinking that maybe her trouble is there is never going to be another it for her.

While this is going on the sub plot is heating up. Woman are being murdered. They are all fitting her description. There is Grace, her best friend who lives next door and a bar. Well you know what happens. It doesnt take long for Cole to realize at about the same time Grace does, they are hotter than a habanero inside a taco in Mexico!

Things are scorching between these two. When I say erotic suspense written at it BEST, I mean this author rocks it!

Cole Grayson is like a mogul, a mini Donald Trump, a billionaire who is self made. His story is fascinating. It is woven and the reveals are dished out in a few spots, many of them leaving you saying OMG

With an equally juicy family life, Grace has a few reveals that leave you saying wtf

It is difficult to write anything else about the story because of the way it is put together. I dont want it to be a spoiler alert situation.

Cole and Grace are just scorching up the book. If you like romantic suspense, then dive in because this is so super hot. I would classify it as an erotic thriller. Grab this debut, nobody does hot, sexy and thrilling the way this author did.

IT’S A CRIME is an erotic, contemporary, suspense storyline with many similarities to Fifty Shades and the Crossfire Series. The premise follows several intersecting timelines going from past to present as the reader is pulled into a story of a psychopathic killer, murder, revenge, love, lust and sex. All timelines will eventually coalesce in the present day when a killer seeks revenge against the woman he believes wronged him many years before.

The storyline can best be described as an erotic tale of murder and sex. The main characters meet and their attraction is instant. There is no question that each is looking for a one-night stand but in the end, they will both lose their hearts to each other. The murder and suspense saga weaves throughout the story as a serial killer murders his way through New York hoping to find the one woman who drives him on his quest.

It’s A Crime is an interesting storyline and one I felt contained many similarities to Fifty Shades and the Crossfire series. The sex is explicit and verbal; and the storyline is rife with profanity-almost too much profanity. I am by no means a prude, but at times, I was overwhelmed with the continuous use of certain four letter words.

The storyline develops slowly as C.E. Hansen intertwined different background stories and timelines building up to the final scenes, but in doing so lost some of the momentum of the story. Then all too quickly, the final resolution is revealed and the novel drifts too closely to Fifty Shades territory.

C.E. Hansen has written a storyline about sex and love; betrayal and revenge; murder and hate. It’s A Crime is a novel of erotic sex, billionaire moguls and a man who will not stop until the final plunge of the knife. There is mystery and suspense with a twist that begins to reveal the truth behind a murderous rampage and a man’s need to avenge the death of someone close.

This book had great promise, with a very intriguing plot that kept me engaged from beginning to end. The author knew how to steam up the pages and keep me in suspense.

Unfortunately when I got to the end I was left scratching my head! There were a number of events that weren't fully explained, didn't add up and went unanswered.

I messaged the author with a few questions and she was kind enough to take the time to reply and explain what I didn't understand. With some editing to tidy these things up this could be an outstanding story.

EDIT - The author has re-released this story, with corrections and the plot holes I mentioned, plugged.

I truly love a great mystery romance and I’m always excited to find a new author to follow. C.E. Hanson’s It's A Crime (Blood and Tears, #1) pulled me in immediately and when I finished Its A Crime, I promptly bought Its A Shame (Blood and Tears, #2). My expectations were met and exceeded and my action to buy book 2 immediately speaks to my recommendation. It’s A Crime is one of those fabulously written sexy love stories where the passion and connection between the characters is unmistakable and frankly, quite steamy. Combine that with the element of mystery and you've got one great read.

Cole Grayson and Grace Preston meet at a New City bar with nary a clue that their introduction would lead them to redefine what they want from life (from and for each other). Neither anticipate wanting or needing anything past one night, but they have this insta-connection and sexual chemistry that is off the charts. I read a lot of R and X rated romance stories so I think my standards for great “intimate” scenes are set pretty high. It goes beyond where body parts are placed and goes straight to the creation of characters that meld into each other. When these scenes are written as well as these are and the characters are formed so clearly, its so easy to feel them and get where they are coming from. It was easy to champion their growing involvement.

In the story, Cole is dead set against being in a relationship while Grace knows she doesn't want to fall in love, but well, she can’t stop herself. There are moments of angst (which I love) but no irreparable damage is done. And yes, Cole is very well off and Grace is no stranger to living a privileged life. Sometimes it’s a lot of fun to “see” how the 2% live and it puts them in places and situations that most of us will never see. In It’s A Crime, I rather enjoyed the description of this opulent lifestyle. They seem to consume a lot of alcohol eat a lot of great food. Then there's the element of the mystery and suspense. It’s a subplot that bridges their worlds and adds some interest and excitement. But I think these two characters are interesting and exciting all on their own.

This read went by all too quickly for me. I dove in and really didn't stop until I finished. It’s a Crime is a solid 4 star read and deserves recommendation in the erotic romance mystery genre.

I wanted to read this book for a very long time but I kept being busy so I decided to make some time for it and read a chapter by day, it was so hard to not read it in a night! I heard a lot of good things about it and I have to say that they were all very true!

This story is a mix of everything I love: Romance, Erotica and Suspense. You won't get bored reading it because of the incredible sex scenes. Okay now.. I have read erotica books but DAMN this one is intense!
Miss Hansen did a fantastic job! I am not kidding when I say that my body was on FIRE!
From page 1 to the end I was hooked, I wanted to know the end of Cole and Grace's story, the suspense was killing me and I couldn't stop thinking about it!
I can't think of any bad things to say about it ,seriously. Nothing bothered me.

I loved that Cole and Grace's relationship went fast. They met, they felt the crazy attraction between them so they had amazing and freaking hot sex! It was suppose to be only sex for Cole, he was on a business trip and he absolutely don't want to have any kind of relationship but his feelings betrays him cause he quickly falls in love with Grace. Cole wants revenge for his family, he wants to find the man who killed them but he has another problem adding, someone is killing girls who look like Grace and she may be the final target.
His number one job is protecting her and resolve everything to live his happily ever after with her.

AMAZING BOOK THAT I HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

I was gifted a copy of this book for an honest review for Stephanie's Book Reports.

I love a good book that sucks you in from the moment you start reading. I also love that book with an edge to it. Weather that edge is a troubled relationship or something that scares the pants off of you or one that's just messed up but you close going oh my gosh I loved that but what did I just read. Welcome to Its A Crime By CE Hansen. Get it, open it up, and hold on to your heart.

It's A Crime is about Grace. Rich girl from New York who after the tragic death of her fiancé on the night of their engagement party starts her own life and swears off love. One night in a bar she meets a very confident Cole, billionaire playboy who never enters into a relationship only one night stands. They meet over bourbon and it's one from that moment. Cole, however is holding on to something dark and he's out for revenge. Meanwhile on the streets of New York City blonde haired blue eyed Grace look a likes are being murdered with not a clue left to who is killing these women.

I loved everything about this book. It's got the love story that's beautiful and really hot to watch transpire. Cole and Grace set the nights on fire. The whose killing and Cole mystery will have the hairs on the back of your neck standing on end. I loved every second of this book. If you like books that lean to darker seedy things in life this is your book.

I was given this book for my honest review

Power the meaning is the ability or right to control people or things. As we dwell deeper into the word we can come understand that with power there is also knowledge. Knowledge is such a powerful word in itself that we can only hope that within ourselves we make the right choices within before our hearts enter the picture. Our heart can be such a powerful emotion that once it becomes engaged within the rest we have no power or knowledge within ourselves.

Cole(Ace)-Handsome, hot

Grace-pretty

This is Grace and Cole’s journey to finding completeness. This author will take you on a whirlwind of an emotional spiral that will have you wanting so much more. She will have you saying “What? Oh No” she didn’t and “Awe I am so sorry” for Cole but in the end will have you saying “Hmmm”

To the author: Amazement, bewilderment, sorrow and laughter are the words that I would use to describe this read. You have shown within your pages that just because an attraction may end up one way that the power within ones heart is more. That ones past and ones future cannot be written, the way one thinks but the way one feels if just given the patience and the time.

To the readers: Sit back and be prepared to take a journey like no other.

Happy Reading

I want to give this 4 stars for the good parts, but I can't.

This story had all the right ingredients: a smokin' lust-to-love romance, a billionaire alpha-male, a murder mystery, and some side stories to keep it from being 2-dimensional. Unfortunately, the parallel stories were not connected in any way for the first 2/3 of the book. Thus the murders and the two police detectives were a distraction until the two plots came crashing together. It's too bad, because the ending was tight and tense, and wove the threads together nicely. The author could have dropped a hint or two earlier, and I would have been really engaged.

Grace and Cole were sexy and adventurous, each with some hidden history. The sex scenes were hot and detailed. It was nice that Grace also came from money, so she knew how to dress up and wear fine jewelry. Much less gushing over Cole's expensive tastes. The side trip to upstate NY was a throw-away.

There were a couple of places where one more edit would have helped, just to polish a few awkward phrases.

This was a Holiday gift from the author through one of my Groups. I will read the second one in hopes that the plot structuring is better - and I liked the potential in the secondary characters who become the focus of book 2.

I loved this book. I loved the characters, all of them, even the evil one. They jumped off the pages. There was times when it felt very predictable, but it was a much better written book than any of the 50 Shades of Grey series. I loved the sizzling sex scenes. They were not as awkward as the sex scenes in 50 Shades. Like the previous reviewer, it got me all twisted inside – ha ha. I loved the chemistry between Grace and Cole. They were smokin’ hot together.

The murders were a nice touch and added so much to the storyline. There is no mention of this being a series and seeing it did have a HEA, which is what I look for, I could be content with it being a stand alone book, but I would like to see more from these two characters, I guess I’ve gotten so used to books like this coming in twos and threes.

So if you’re listening out there, C.E., I am sure I’m not alone in this regard and beg you to WRITE MORE – please. That said, I recommend this book to you fans of series such as 50 Shades, Bared to You – by Sylvia Day (I’m a big fan), and Nina Lane’s Spiral of Bliss series (Love Nina’s writing).

I really, really liked this book. A lot.

It had everything you could possibly want in a book. It was sexy, scary, thrilling and I liked the MC's a lot. They seemed so perfect for each other, and you can tell in the sex scenes they 'work' well together. The sex was incredible and oh so very hot. WOW

I liked the way C.E. weaved all the story lines, and time lines together. This was the first book I read that has this much going on and yet still tells a great story.

I read other reviews where they compare It's A Crime to Crossfire and 50 Shades, but I didn't think the books had much in common other than super rich hot looking guys. They didn't have as much going on as this book does, and the writing is much better in It's A Crime than it was in 50 Shades.

The bad guy in the book was one nasty character. He gave me the creeps, I actually wouldn't go to the kitchen to get a beer because I was afraid. The murder scenes were very graphic so if you don't like that sort of thing, you wouldn't like this book.

Anyone who likes suspenseful, sex-filled stories, this one is for you.

Not too bad...

We can't have a Billionaire Hero without a little bit of drama can we?

This story wasn't too bad. We have two very emotionally scarred main characters who don't do relationships but feel a connection from the first time they see each other...my first eye roll. They both happen to be extremely wealthy and beautiful...second eye roll. They both just want sex without the serious stuff...not an eye roll, but haven't I heard that one before?

The mystery wasn't too bad, but I guessed pretty early how the jigsaw pieces fitted together.

Once the main characters hit the sheets, I didn't think we were going to get much story at all, but eventually we got back to the mystery and it started to get interesting.

The Hero got a bad case of 'man brain' where he pushed the heroine away, but she wasn't much better with her "stand by her man" while he worked out his issues...third eye roll.

Overall, I enjoyed my first experience of a new genre to me - Smut Suspense. This is the first book in the series with a HFN ending. The second book is with the same characters and I will definitely be looking to buy it.

*I was given a copy of this book as a gift from Stephanie's Book Reports in exchange for an honest review.

This is the first book in the Blood and Tears series.

Grace Preston is a New York socialite. After losing her fiance in an accident, she has built walls around her heart vowing she would never find herself heartbroken again. After breaking up with Johnathan, a narcissistic model, she goes to a local bar to try and relax. It is here that she meets Cole, the most handsome man she has ever seen. They agree to a one night stand neither realizing how the other will make them feel.

Cole Grayson is a self proclaimed workaholic. He uses women for physical release and that's it. When he takes the beautiful Grace home for one night of passion, she awakens feelings in him that he thought didn't exist. When an evil force from the past shows up, Cole realizes that Grace is in grave danger. He takes every precaution to ensure her safety, but will it be enough?

I really enjoyed this book! The story line was filled with danger and suspense. C.E. Hansen did a great job, and I would highly recommend this book!

It's a crime pulled me in, chewed me up and spat me out, leaving my heart racing, my head spinning and my adrenaline on overdrive. It is a suspenseful, thrilling and steamy story of love, lust, revenge and murder.
Cole Grayson is your typical billionaire, hiding a secret and ultimately unable to address his emotions head on.
Grace has been hurt in the past, had her fiancé torn from her before their life together really began. As a result she is emotionally shut off and stubborn.
Cole and Grace fall for each other, becoming each other's saviours from a past of heartbreak.
But little do they know that their pasts are about to collide and make this story about more than conflicted feelings and hot sex. Something terrible is happening, and it sends the reader on a rollercoaster. It had my mind reeling, with so many questions. The author kept you guessing, giving enough away to keep you turning the pages, desperate to find out what was going on. The way she linked the many branches and plots together makes this story a must read. I thoroughly enjoyed it and look forward to book 2.

I really, really enjoyed reading this book!! I love a sexy mystery and It’s A Crime did not disappoint. This book has everything that I love in a good book. I love a mystery! I was drawn in from the beginning and did not want to put it down. I won’t even give a little tease about the mystery. I feel this is a journey you really need to experience on your own. There are so many twists and turns you won’t see coming. Love it!! I love a steamy romance. The chemistry between these two is really hot and they like to express it...a lot!! Speaking of characters, I loved Cole Greyson. Who doesn’t love a handsome, confident, mega mogul??? For me, my favorite is an amazing, strong, self-assured heroine and that is Grace! I am so aggravated when a heroine is whiny and indecisive. It makes me want to scream at my kindle. When an author can pull all of this together and make it flow smoothly, I am hooked! I can’t wait to see what else these two can possible face but I know I won’t be disappointed.

This is a very suspenseful story that quickly drew me in, I didn't want to put the book down. Grace and Cole have a chance encounter one night. Both have been hurt by previous relationships for different reasons. Neither of them really want a long term relationship but are drawn to each other. Cole vows to keep Grace safe when it appears a serial killer is targeting women meeting Grace's profile.

This is a fast paced story filled with romance, suspense, and plenty of steamy scenes. The story is told from alternating points of view, this is done quite well. I don't think this story would have worked quite as well had the author chose a different view point.

The characters are strong and likable. I think the chemistry between Cole and Grace is strong and noticeable. Grace's friend, Michelle is a lot of fun.

This is the first book by this author I've read, I look forward to reading more.

I received a copy of this book from the author, my review has been voluntarily submitted.

This is why I love coming across indie authors and will always take a chance on their books. Ms. Hansen has created unique characters of her own (I wonder why anyone who writes erotica now is compared to FSoG, this book is nothing like it other than a wealthy hero) and you come to love those characters from the very beginning. In the mix of finding each other, Cole and Grace are each battling personal demons, and it might not be the best time for either one of them for a relationship. However, they learn they have a lot more in common than just what happens between the sheets and they find they are both caught up in a killer's sick plot for revenge. One minute you'll be turned on, the next terrified. This new author has done a fantastic job and I would love to see what she comes up with next.

This was a really super read. From start to finish I was gripped and just had to keep reading.

Cole Grayson is a real estate billionaire. After losing his family when he was young he refuses to get close to anyone. He wants success and to find out who killed his family.

Grace Preston is a successful sexy woman. She also knows what loss feels like so isn't keen on getting into a relationship.

When fate brings these two together can they leave their past behind them for a chance of happiness??

This is a really great mystery suspense with a hot sexy romantic storyline.

I highly recommend this story. I loved it.

Amazing read! This didn't start off like I thought it would, suspenseful beginning is all I will say! Cynthia had me from the first chapter!! The relationship between Grace and Cole is so hot and addicting, you can feel the personal pain each of them are dealing with regards to their past. This story was romantic with a big side of suspense and it will shock you till the end! A MUST read.

This book is a definite must read! Cole and Grace together are just hot! Without giving the story away the twists and turns are intense! I love the characters, the hot sex, the emotion, the hurt and the suspense! Cindy knows how to write a sex scene that will leave you wanting more and horny as hell!

The author was very kind to gift me a copy of this book. I loved it. Great Hot Sex and Great Crime Story. I loved how the book was not just focused on the great sex between Cole and Grace. This book provided my two favorite things to read all in one book. Hot Sex and Solve Crime. Thanks again to C.E. Hansen for gifting me a copy of the book!

I thought this book was awesome. I read it straight thru. I thought it was a little repetitive, but the sex...oh so hot!

I would recommend it to fans of erotica and romance/suspense.
