A beat-up old car, a few dollars in the pocket and a sense of adventure. In 1972 that’s all Tony and Maureen Wheeler needed for the trip of a lifetime – across Europe and Asia overland to Australia. It took several months, and at the end – broke but inspired – they sat at their kitchen table writing and stapling together their first travel guide, Across Asia on the Cheap. Within a week they’d sold 1500 copies and Lonely Planet was born. Amazing book! I’m going to Kenya in two months, so it was incredible to come across this just in time. It’s given me so much insight into the country, its culture, and what to expect when I get there. Now I also know that I need a visa to enter the country, which I hadn’t fully looked into before. I found this website https://kenya-visa.co.uk/ for the visa application, and I’m going to start the process soon to make sure everything is sorted well in advance. I’m so excited for this trip—I’ve always wanted to visit Kenya, and now it’s finally happening! From the stunning landscapes of the Maasai Mara to the beautiful beaches along the coast, I can’t wait to explore it all. I’m also looking forward to experiencing the local culture, trying Kenyan food, and hopefully going on a safari to see some incredible wildlife. There’s still so much to plan, like finalizing my itinerary and booking the last few accommodations, but it’s all coming together. If anyone has any travel tips or must-see places in Kenya, I’d love to hear them

This was a wonderful reference to use, just for looking at facts and pictures. The authors took the time to put in different facts about some animals, and they also put in some good traveling times to go to Kenya as well. There's an abundance of information in this book. Information about different cities, parks, national parks, food, hotels, and even places to bring your kids. This is definitely a book to get when you are just starting to think about your trip to Kenya, or you can just get it to learn more about Kenya and it's animals and places. But reading this book might want to make you visit! I would like to thank Lonely Planet for generously giving me the book in exchange for this review.

We love Lonely Planet - it's modern and forward looking, environmently conscious and a must-read before any serious travel. But sometimes, we just wish more was spent telling us about what life is where one goes, rate the sights to really see (on a map, for example), and maybe spend a fewer pages for backpackers and what they look for. Most people who will buy the book to visit Kenya would never consider camping in Kenya, where one may pick between wild animals or criminals...

Barely helpful. Absolutely no relevant advice for women travelers. Shockingly, all the writers were men. Major, major weak point for nearly all Lonely Planet guides.

Kind of hard to say the value of this book until the trip has begun. It definitely gave me a lot to think about while trip planning.
