I thought I spoke Italian but the only thing I could think of to describe the Sistine Chapel was 'Mama mia!' Then I opened my phrasebook and entered a world beyond the Italy I thought I knew.

OUR STORY
A beat-up old car, a few dollars in the pocket and a sense of adventure. In 1972 that’s all Tony and Maureen Wheeler needed for the trip of a lifetime – across Europe and Asia overland to Australia. It took several months, and at the end – broke but inspired – they sat at their kitchen table writing and stapling together their first travel guide, Across Asia on the Cheap. Within a week they’d sold 1500 copies and Lonely Planet was born. One hundred million guidebooks later, Lonely Planet is the world’s leading travel guide publisher with content to almost every destination on the planet.

I just love how easy it is to use this small and compact phrasebook. It is extremely useful for those who need it. Plus there is a bit og humour in it ;D

example - this is the sociable section:
"Would you go out with me?"
answer.."No, even if you were the last person on earth!"

Pretty helpful for my trip to Italy. It in no way prepared me for a casual conversation in Italian, but I was able to order food and get around.
