Wings of Steele #2
Flight of Freedom
"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." Edmond Burke...
The adventure continues - with one major difference: Jack Steele's Freedom is no longer the wounded duck she once was. They leave UFW Blackmount Station repaired and retooled, with a complete crew, fully armed and resupplied, ready to hunt.
But life in a busy and turbulent universe is rarely as simple as one would hope it to be. This becomes painfully evident with the complexities in space as events splinter even the best laid plans at home and abroad.
Organized and motivated, the pirates are not to be taken lightly with a growing fleet of freelancers attracted by wealth and fame. In her own right, the Freedom was a name becoming famous...or infamous as far as the pirates were concerned. And that could spell disaster for the Freedom and her crew...
An epic science fiction adventure that reaches from the surface of our familiar planet and the safety of terra firma, to the dark, vast expanse of deep space and distant empires.
(This is a full sized novel. 159,322 words).

Jeffrey Burger
15 books41 followersJeffrey J Burger was born and grew up in Chicago, Illinois, moving to the Gulf Coast of Florida at the age of 28, where he still lives today with his German Shepherd, Jax. Jeff returns to Chicago on a regular basis to visit family and friends.
Originally drawn to law enforcement like his father and uncle, Jeff's extremely creative nature drove him toward a rewarding career in photography, illustration, design, marketing and advertising. With the successful launch of his first book; Wings of Steele - Destination Unknown, he has been able to add writing and publishing to his repertoire.
Jeff's choice in career and life in Florida have offered some truly unique experiences which he continues to enjoy. A certified firearms Instructor, Jeff has worked with civilians, Military Personnel and Law Enforcement Officers from many agencies. This has afforded him the opportunity to regularly handle and become proficient with firearms of all types, new and vintage, from all over the world.
An affinity for aircraft and flying have provided many opportunities to fly with talented civilian and military pilots in a wide selection of fixed wing and rotary aircraft. While Jeff finds jets to be supremely exciting, nothing beats the sublime sound or primal feeling of a piston-driven Rolls Royce Merlin V12 in a vintage P51 Mustang.

Flight of Freedom follows directly from Destination Unknown and dives straight into new adventures. The action is as plentiful and as good as the previous book and so are the characters.
The first part of the book appears to make a detour into a bit of a side-adventure which at first felt a bit plopped in just to expand the book but after having read the book in its entirety I have the impression that this episode will possibly tie into the overall story arc at a later point more than I first expected. The main parts of the book however deals with Jack, Alité and the UFW force investigating what has happened on Alité’s home planet, which has fallen off the grid. At this point we are indeed wondering into space opera land and a fair amount nefarious scheming involving pirates and corrupted companies are made, or at least hinted at, which I am sure will be the longer term foundation for future books in this series.
The characters are as enjoyable to read about as in the previous book. A few new ones are introduced of which I really liked Boney and his rather efficient way of dealing with some of the more despicable characters encountered.
One problem, from my point of view at least, of these unknowing-humans-discover-we’re-not-alone kind of stories is that when the first book is done and the story progresses that wow-moment and element of surprise that I really like is gone. Not so with these books. Since the majority of mankind is unaware of Jack’s adventures and quite a few of his relatives and friends are left on Earth the author manages to weave in a few more of these moments in the story with regular intervals. The fact that the government’s “Men in Black” mobsters are running around as clumsily and clueless as usual is of course increasing the probability of some violent action as well.
As a whole, this is another great space adventure book. I am quite looking forward to the next one.

Continuing on almost immediately from the first book, the adventure delves much deeper into the events of the pirates and the battles of the Freedom and its crew.
The book is packed with more action both in space and on a planet with the occasional flip back to Earth and the troubles that revolve around the remaining members of the Steele family.
The loose thread that was hanging loose at the end of book 1 over Maria Arroyo has been resolved and this book was much tighter with the storyline while keeping things in perspective.
By this point, you are rooting for certain characters to survive to the end and for a few to get what they truly deserve in a most painful and fitting manner (especially those depicted as part of the NSA and their bosses).
The slightly annoying errors and formatting still prevent this from hitting a 5 star but it's much closer than the first book and overall, a good read for fans of sci-fi adventures.

I'm reading this for the second time. The latest book in the series came out this year and I needed a refresher on the series. It is much how I remembered it. The story is good, but some of the dialog and characters seem stilted. That being said, it isn't so bad that it takes away from the overall story for me. In the second book now I can't really tell if it is the reader of the audio book,or the writing. Either way it is less apparent in book two, so it makes me think it is just the writing style. Either way the story is just as great as I remember it. A really enjoyable simple read that gets some more layers as the series progresses.

Light of freedom
This book was excellent. I don't normally buy books because I have the Amazon monthly books, so that I can read all the books I want without having to pay for them except for the $10 a month which I definitely get my money's worth. So when I do buy a book I know it's going to be an excellent book. And this book was excellent I couldn't put it down. I cannot wait to read the rest of the series and I do hope there is more, please write more stories each one gets better than the last. Sincerely Kathleen Court

I get lost in this world
I feel like I know Jack Steele, Brian and Paul. I want to know Lisa and Alite. Most of all I want my brave, wonderful dogs to be able to talk.
There is nothing like good military science fiction. This series is especially well researched and conceived. Tying Ancient Astronauts theory with Freemasonry makes a convincing case for the reality of UFOS. This series is filled with thoughtful social commentary and ideas to ponder.

The action is good, but the characters still seem too one-dimensional. Also, I’m getting more of a feel the author has an agenda with the paranoia about “the man” or government having an overarching fascist bent. It’s an annoyance and distracting. It brings to mind “Starship Troopers” with its not-so-subtle political commentary and the erosion of respect I had for Robert Heinlein

Another great exciting read
I enjoyed reading the first in this series I bought the rest. Book two is as good as the first book more members of the Steele family join in the struggles between good and evil. Meanwhile back on Earth trouble is brewing, so the Steele's are headed home.

I love this series!
It is a mixture of action packed sci-fi and today's social commentary. Characters have you cheering for them and each page turns fast. A must read.

Good read.
Great storyline. Can't wait to read the feast of books in the series. Interesting concept of earth being previously visited by aliens

Fun read
Loads better as the opening shot of the series, lots of plot twists, a whole bunch of action, and nefarious villains. If you read the first, make sure to check this one out.

Unlike TV or movies, the books in this series just keep getting better. Action, adventure, snarky major characters; what more could you want? No spoilers here, go to the publisher's summary for that kind of overview. Just be prepared to enjoy yourself!
KC does his usual remarkable audio performance. His voice and cadence are pleasant to the ear, but it is his vocal interpretations of the characters and ability to bring real depth to their personalities that win the day.
Thank you AudioBook Blast!

A Real Stinker
I believe my dog is a better writer. He would provide more insight on the smells of space travel and the tastes of space food. And his political views would focus on the real threats to freedom – Cats, Squirrels and Bunnies.

Great fast paced read. Expands on the first book and improves the concept. Expecting great things from book 3. Buying it now.
