My Thoughts:
⌘ Finally! I feel like I've been waiting forever for the story of Rose and Drew. Rose, of course, is Philip's sister and Drew is his lawyer but both of them have wanted each other for years. Drew was just waiting for Rose to grow up.
⌘ Rose had to be the one to take the initiative and it is a bit awkward but Drew sure didn't seem to mind, in fact, he enjoyed the show.
⌘ Rose decides to move out and open her own dance studio. Surprisingly, Philip handles this rather well and Rose decides to wait a bit to tell him about Drew.
⌘ There is some drama and things come out in the open. Unfortunately, it's not the way Rose would have liked and she's forced to become even more independent. I really enjoyed seeing her grow as her own person.
⌘ The ending was really sweet and things wrapped up well but it leaves you wanting more. Hopefully, Philip's story is next and we will get more about Drew and Rose then.

Amber Lin writes the most beautiful stories! Her characters aren’t characters at all, but people we connect with, people we care about, people whose stories we can’t help but get lost in.
Rose Murphy has had a rough go of life, but now she's ready to live it on her own terms, out from under her brother’s over protective, stifling care. Philip means well - most of the time - but Rose has dreams she wants to make real and can’t do it while living in his home, under his watchful eye. He’s not going to like her moving out on her own, but that’s nothing compared to how angry he’ll be when he learns that she has feelings for his attorney, Drew, and that Drew returns those feelings, and has for a long time.
Tempting Fate is the third novella in Ms. Lin’s The Lost Girls series. The first two stories, Giving it Up and Selling Out are passionate, edgy and heartbreaking, hopeful and inspiring. Tempting Fate is another brilliant installment, but with less angst. It’s sensual, erotic, tender and romantic, and once I started, I couldn’t put it down. Every word, every sentence, every page… I loved it all!
The next in this series is also the last, and it's Philip's story. I can not wait to meet the woman who brings him to his knees!

SO DAMN GOOD.
I loved this! I've never read Amber Lin before, but now I'm going to go backwards and read the first book in her Lost Girls series. This was a novella but holy shit did it pack a punch.
Rose has had an unfortunate upbringing and an even more unfortunate introduction to sex when she was a teenager.
Philip, her brother, has always been there for her, rescuing her from her past and providing a stable home life. But Rose is itching to get out, move on and establish her own ballet studio and finally go off on her own. She also harbours a years long desire for Philip's lawyer, Drew. Drew and Rose have danced around each other for years, never crossing the line or raising her brother's ire...TILL NOW.
This was an exceptionally written book. I can't stress that enough. The prose is masterful and incredibly intelligent, peotic even. The way Amber Lin describes situations and circumstances blew me away--to the point I noticed it and was passionately moved by it--and made me love the story even more.
I loved the characters too. Rose was like a delicate flower desperate to grow her thorns and experience passion at the hands of a man she has been dreaming of for years. I found her grounding, intelligent and compassionate.
Drew was a quietly sexy man that always held back--both emotionally and physically--until he sensed Rose was ready. Two people waiting for each other...SO BEAUTIFUL!!
I loved the flow and could not put this down. It had moments of angst but no over the top drama--thank God--which is more realistic imo. COMPLETELY LOVED THIS**sigh**.

First of all, can we just admire that gorgeous cover for a moment? If you’re not familiar with The Lost Girls series yet, you won’t need to have read them to be able to follow this story, however this novella was definitely a more romantic, gentler version than any of Amber Lin’s other books. The Lost Girls characters have all lived very hard lives – crime, rape, abuse, prostitution, etc. Her writing is raw and gritty, but the author is definitely, in my opinion, a master of her craft.
This is the story of Rose and Drew. Rose is Philip and Colin’s sister; Drew is Philip’s lawyer. Rose suffered several traumatic events as a teenager that have molded her into the woman she is today, but she’s taking measures to step out of her sheltered life, both emotionally and physically. In her mid to late twenties, Rose has had very little experience with men and romance in general. We know how seriously Philip takes protecting his family, and he’s probably the most protective of Rose. After all, he’s been her protector since he turned eighteen. His concern for her was one of the sweetest moments I’ve seen from him yet. She was happy to remain sheltered and docile for the past decade, pursuing her love of ballet. She has almost reached her prime as a ballerina, and knee injuries threaten to put an end to her career. Her plans to open a ballet studio and move out of the family home couldn’t have come at a better time because her crush on Drew has just taken a turn from fantasy to reality. Philip will definitely not be pleased about either development.
I absolutely adored this story. I mean, I’m head over heels for this couple. I think Rose would have been a vivacious and feisty heroine were it not for her past. But under the sensual onslaught of Drew’s affections, she appeared to blossom a little more every time they were together. I admired that her sudden wish for independence wasn’t brought about by anything in particular. She seemed to have healed enough to the point that she just wanted more. Therefore, she didn’t come across as a bird in the golden cage, despite some of Philip’s rules. I loved her in her vulnerable moments, and I loved her when she tried to overcome her fears.
Drew. Oh, Drew. That man was perfect in my eyes. He was such a balanced and uncomplicated character. He was always straightforward; he never said anything he didn’t mean. In that, he was perfect for Rose. She never had to guess what he was thinking. I loved the open honesty of their dialogue. It would have been so easy to add unnecessary drama caused by miscommunication or lack thereof. Instead, these two handled themselves with a maturity that I often crave from characters, but never receive. He was like a steady rock in her tumultuous world, silently waiting in the wings all those years for her to be ready to live again, to be ready for him.
Their exploration of their newly found passion and feelings didn’t come without a few setbacks, but Drew was always there for her, with her, and he never made her feel unworthy or stupid. I also admired how quickly both of them agreed to come clean with Philip. Of course there had to be a little drama, and my heart broke a little for Rose at one point, but I felt she came out much stronger on the other side.
This story was lovely and so engaging, I could read it over and over. The flow of it and the prose had the elegance of a ballet performance. Somehow Rose’s elegance flowed through her into the story. The ending was so incredibly romantic and fit the characters perfectly. The Pas de Deux from Swan Lake, designed to express the strength and triumph of the character, would be a perfect analogy for Rose and Drew.

If you've met me, read my blog, bumped into me at a conference, or asked me about romance ever--ever, you're aware Amber Lin hangs the sun, the moon, and the stars (to me) when it comes to writing romance.
This book is some of her best writing yet.
She's getting better. She's freaking getting better and she had no room for improvement to begin with.
Read this book. Somehow, Amber still delivers a disturbed heroine with backstory, an understanding hero who doesn't treat her like a china doll, and dirty sexy stuff that doesn't make you feel like a creeper.

The Lost Girls series continues its emotional rollercoaster ride with this latest installment featuring the sister of the enigmatic Phillip, Rose. She had a harsh childhood of abuse from her father and later on a boyfriend that Philip saved her from but led to his overprotectiveness. He swore to keep her safe which has led to a nun-like existance for a 26-year-old woman. The only moments of true freedom for her are when she's dancing and the attraction she feels towards Philip's lawyer, Drew. Her past and her obligation to her brother has held her back though. Deciding to open a dance has bolstered her confidence and she finally goes after Drew wholeheartedly in a sensual yet naively planned out seduction. Rose was a sweet character who just wanted to grow up. Her brother saved her but is smothering her and keeping her from a happy future out of fear. I applaud her strength and ached for her when a silly roadblock puts her HEA in jeopardy.
Drew is a strong and sexy man who at first loved the challenge of working on Philip's questionable deeds. He sometimes had to work in the grey areas to see Philip succeed but has come to realize how dangerous it really is. He's been attracted to Rose for a long time but didn't feel she was ready to have a relationship with him. Her sensual show in front of the window has him seeing her as an adult which unleashes him to seduce her in a slow build-up of sexual tension-filled moments. We unfortunately don't get a deep understanding of Drew in this story. I found him admirable but not very compelling.
Who I continue to find compelling is Philip! He's mysterious with questionable ethics but I find myself drawn to him even more as the series progresses. We get to see another layer of him in his over-protectiveness of Rose. His actions are out of love but they take away free will. He's a control freak who wants to control everything and play people as chess pieces to make his life easier. Even with these faults I'm dying for his story to be told as I find him an utterly fascinating multifaceted character!
This story was enjoyable yet not as intense or deep as the previous installments. Rose had a rough upbringing but not near as traumatic as the rest of the heroines in this series. The roadblock to their HEA was casually inserted and quickly dealt with behind the scenes. The sexual interludes were hot but not as impactful considering how quickly the protagonists came together. This is a beautifully written story of two people who have waited a long time for each other, through angst and longing, their coming together was palpable and very sigh worthy. I loved watching Rose blossom when she was with Drew, and he was the perfect man for her. As their romance grew, their ability to overcome obstacles that stood in their way with strength and love was captivating and made the story that much more enjoyable. The only drawback is that I wish that this story was a full length novel as I didn't want it to end.

In the short span of a novella, Lin creates a beautifully haunting romance, a perfect compliment to the other two books in the series.
I adore this book. It has a flowing, lyrical quality, slightly different from the grittiness of the other books. The writing in itself has an innate sexiness to it: all smooth lines and muted tones. The poignancy of a forbidden but undeniable attraction is perfectly portrayed. The sexual attraction between Rose and Drew is positively burning, even when they have never touched. With little background, the author writes two characters that I felt deeply for, and was desperate to see their happy ending. I was devastated when it seemed that outside circumstances would tear them apart forever.
Fortunately, I was rewarded with the sweetness and tears of their eventual happiness, and I was grateful for the beautiful journey. This is a lovely book, erotic and unforgettably sensual, a story bathed in darkness with just enough of the city lights filtering through the windows.

This is my first Skye Warren book and I didn’t realize it was book 7 of a series or that it originally was written as Tempting Fate by Amber Lin. It was good as a standalone so don’t be afraid to jump in but I will definitely go back and read 1 through 6 because apparently Phillip has his own story which is next and I found him quiet intriguing and mysterious.

I found Tempting fate to be fun, hot, and beautiful all at the same time. The heroine falls for her brother's lawyer (make that her wildly overprotective brother who has very shady business dealings). I loved how important the brother was to them both, not just a simple obstacle. Drew, the hero, is fabulous. This story felt really unique, and there are some inventively sexy scenes that I really enjoyed.

This is my first Amber Lin book and won't be my last. Tempting Fate is the third book in The Lost Girls series and reads very well by itself. I would even say this is more of book 2.5 since it was novella length rather than a full novel length. Tempting Fate tells the story of Rose Murphy and Drew Laramie. Rose is the sister of Colin who was the hero in book #1 (Giving it Up). Rose was raised by her older brother Phillip, who has some questionable business dealings that are not all within the law. Rose lived in a group home when she was younger and experienced some bad things while living there. Because of this Phillip is protective of his sister and brother. Rose has been sheltered and has just gone along with life.
Rose is making decisions and slowly waking up. That's the best way to describe what she's going through. It's like she's been asleep and just going along but now waking up and seeing things. Her attraction to Drew has been simmering and building through the years. Going after Drew is one of the decisions she's making. When an opportunity presents itself, Rose throws down the gauntlet and let's Drew knows she wants him.
Drew has been the lawyer for Rose's brother Phillip for a long time now. He has always been attracted to Rose and as the years has gone by he's been slowly waiting for some signal from Rose that she was ready. He knows there will be some backlash from Rose's brother but he's willing to face them because for him, Rose is it.
Whew boy! When these two give into their attraction it's in one of the hottest ways. Talk about voyeurism sexiness. For a shorter length book there was a lot happening. I never felt lost though. I felt the connection between Drew and Rose right away and never questioned their attraction or pull to one another. I loved these two together and enjoyed all the moments where they interacted. There was a lot of steam whenever they were around one another. I hope we see more of them if Amber is continuing with any more characters from this series. I really hope she writes a book for Phillip the older brother. He needs a feisty woman in his life to set him straight. Overall an enjoyable, steamy and sweet read.

Rose is making decisions and slowly waking up. That's the best way to describe what she's going through. It's like she's been asleep and just going along but now waking up and seeing things. Her attraction to Drew has been simmering and building through the years. Going after Drew is one of the decisions she's making. When an opportunity presents itself, Rose throws down the gauntlet and let's Drew knows she wants him.
Drew has been the lawyer for Rose's brother Phillip for a long time now. He has always been attracted to Rose and as the years has gone by he's been slowly waiting for some signal from Rose that she was ready. He knows there will be some backlash from Rose's brother but he's willing to face them because for him, Rose is it.
Whew boy! When these two give into their attraction it's in one of the hottest ways. Talk about voyeurism sexiness. For a shorter length book there was a lot happening. I never felt lost though. I felt the connection between Drew and Rose right away and never questioned their attraction or pull to one another. I loved these two together and enjoyed all the moments where they interacted. There was a lot of steam whenever they were around one another. I hope we see more of them if Amber is continuing with any more characters from this series. I really hope she writes a book for Phillip the older brother. He needs a feisty woman in his life to set him straight. Overall an enjoyable, steamy and sweet read.

Wished it were longer...
This is the third book in The Lost Girls series and I'm kicking myself for not reading the previous two books as I'm sure I missed out on some much wanted information regarding these two characters. It's not that I didn't get a feel for who they were or what they were about but after reading this I felt like I didn't have the full story so if I were to do it all over again I would read the previous books first just to have a complete picture. My recommendation is to read the other books first so that you will have all the background info. I felt that this was a very good read. It being a novella and one that I was enjoying it went too quickly in my opinion. Meaning that the writing was good, the sex scenes were hot, and I really liked both characters. I will definitely be looking for more from Ms. Lin in the future especially the next book in this series as I can only imagine how complicated and sexy Philip's story will be.

Loved this. Third book in the Lost Girls series, but it stands alone and isn't as dark. Rose is Phillip's sister. She is sheltered, and has appreciated that, but now she is ready to break out on her own. She has her eye on Drew, but he has been waiting for her to give him a sign that she is ready. Nice and steamy, even before they get their hands on one another. They are so sweet and I love them together. A short but satisfying read.

I'm a huge fan of Amber Lin's The Lost Girls Series.
She writes passionately, vividly and seamlessly.
This novella is no different than her novels and is one of the only novellas I have read that is so jam packed it feels like you are reading a full fledged book and come away satisfied!
This novel was also so steamy I thought my Kobo would short out. ;)

This is a well done erotic novella. The heroine falls for her brother's best friend. He is older and her brother's lawyer. Her brother walks a fine line between business dealings and crime so there is a grey area to this story I really like. I wish it had been longer.

Ok this book almost made me cry! He got hurt & her brother just tried to get in the way! He knows what its like to be alone so standing in the way of luv is too much. But as always luv wins in the end. I'm so proud of Rose for taking what she wants in life.

I liked the story of Rose and Drew. Their story didn't have the danger and intensity of the other two in the series but they had a lot of sexual tension and this story was really sweet.
