Yves Henri Donat Mathieu Saint-Laurent is a French pied noir fashion designer, considered among the greatest of the 20th century. In 1985, in his book, Couture: The Great Fashion Designers, Caroline Rennolds Milbank wrote, "The most consistently celebrated and influential designer of the past twenty-five years, Yves Saint Laurent can be credited with both spurring the couture's rise from its Sixties ashes and with finally rendering ready-to-wear reputable."
This is a catalog of a retrospective exhibition at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in 1983 of clothes designed by Yves Saint Laurent, not the label after his death.
It has a pretty informative introduction about his life and inspirations.
The bulk of this book is photographs of his completed designs, each with the name of the design, the collection it is from and the year. about a third in colour and the rest in black and white.
Occasionally their are fashion spread images, design sketches and close ups of details, but I would have liked to have seen more of these as well as celebrities wearing the clothes to events.
Over all a solid photo book for those with an interest in fashion.
