5 "OMG, am I crying?" stars!

"Before you, I just existed. I didn't really live. I didn't really feel. I was going through the motions. And then I met you..." I stroked his face and gazed up at him. "And you brought me back to life."

This was me at 12:30am reading the end of this story...

Danielle Allen kindly provided me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I have to be completely honest and say that I freaking loved it!!

This is the story of young professional, Sahara, who has spent the last 10 years hating herself over a terrible tragedy she feels responsible for. In walks Ty "The Game Changer" Barker and emotionally damaged Sahara tries her best to avoid him...at first...

"I have to fight the desire to be around him, near him, on him. It would never work. Not after what I've done."

...but Ty is a super sexy business owner and entrepreneur who treats Sahara with patience and understanding. In no time, he is able to effortlessly steals Sahara's heart. (and mine, too!)

"His presence forced my head upward and once our eyes locked, everything I felt earlier- all the resistance and reasons why I should not pursue this, whatever it was- evaporated immediately."

Oh and things really do heat up after that!

"This is how a man is supposed to make you feel..."

fanning self photo: santana fanning self santanafanning.gif

But there are unfinished issues from Sahara's past that still need to be dealt with. For example, her feelings for her first love, Emanuel. Their "almost" relationship was cut short in the aftermath of the accident so many years ago. Their sudden reunion at a parole hearing for the drunk driver that destroyed their lives is unexpectedly intense. After 10 years of being apart, Emanuel doesn't want to stay away from her any longer.

"If I can't get over her. I have to try to have her."- Emanuel

If a girl is lucky she'll find one amazing guy who loves her, Sahara found two...

"Tyree Barker was my present, And Emanuel Mills is my unresolved past."

Decisions, Decisions...

I really loved this story, it took me by surprise. It was very well written, sexy, funny and heartbreaking. Danielle Allen is a new favorite of mine and I'll definitely be keeping an eye on her! I can't wait to read more of her work!

***ARC received by author for honest review***

Back to life starts with a great big bang!
I literally thought I'd spend 10 mins having a quick read before I settle down and watch some T.V- 3 hours later I was still reading and my T.V still hadn'd been turned on.

The prologue gripped me right from the beginning.

This book tells the story of Sahara- told entirely in her POV.

Sahara and her friends were in a bad car accident, but even though she wasnt driving, she feels its all her fault. She has spend the last 10 years basically working from dusk till dawn, isolating herself from everyone who loves her and anyone who wants to get to know her.

The way she looks at it- she destroyed the people she cares about so in turn she doesnt deserve to be happy.

One day after a bad nights sleep she decides to go hit the gym in an effort to tire herself out so completely sleep will come easy- and thats where she meets Tyree ''Ty'' Barker- AKA- The game changer!

He has just moved into her building- and she wants to know more about him- but she wont allow herself, afterall this could lead to happiness and Sahara doesnt deserve it. But luckily Ty wants to know more too.

He firmly deposits himself right into Saharas life- eating dinners together, watching movies, days out to the art gallery until Sahara realises he is it for her.

But legal complications mean that Sahara has to go back to her home town- back to where the accident was, back to her best friend Emily whom she has had little to do with since the accident, and back to her old love Emanuel. Although they never had a relationship Sahara has been in love with him forever.

And now he wants her-

I quite liked Sahara- she was very damaged. She had little self confidence, she knew she looked good, but she also thought she was a bad person causing pain to whoever she cared about. And she also sounds like the kind of girl I wanna share clothes with!!

Ty- Oh I loved him. He was sweet, sexy, intelligent, loving, caring....the list of atributes that Ty posseses could go on forever! He was so good for Sahara really bringing her out of her shell, and making her realise she deserved to be loved.

But he has a secret- A biggy too!

Then there is Emanuel I actually didnt like him, maybe I didnt know enough about him or maybe it was that he was trying to get with Sahara which then meant that she'd have to end things with Ty. He wants Sahara, but he is lying to her about his life. If Sahara wants him back then he'll change his life, but if she doesnt want him, he'll continue as is. He wasnt willing to make that big gesture to prove his love, so I remained unconvinced.

He states he is in love with her and has been for the last 10 years. But I think I found it hard to believe as Sahara was a totally different person, the accident changed that. He was in love with the Sahara who left town 10 years ago pre accident, the Sahara who returned was nowhere near the same person who left.

I really enjoyed this book, I enjoyed the storyline (I love a good love triangle) but I hated the cliffhanger- luckily Danielle has sent me an ARC of book 2 also so I can get straight back to Ty.

The little twist in the middle with Ty- I'll admit I saw that coming so I wasnt surprised but it didnt take anything away from my enjoyment of the story. It was a well thought out book, with a good plot and great characters.

Sometimes I felt like the book was padded out with desciptions though. I like it when surroundings are described but this one felt a little over described- I found myself just skimming these parts.

I'd give this one 4 stars****

Okay, so I’m a big fan of Love Triangles (Kellan Kyle anyone?), and this was kind of a Love Triangle, but for the majority of the book it was just Sahara & Tyree. We got to see their relationship evolve, even though it seemed like it evolved really quickly – Sahara forgave things that I don’t know that I would have been able to. She told Tyree all her secrets, and then he left her after she cried herself to sleep. Yes, I found out why towards the end of the book, but that was messed up!

After the way the book started, I wasn’t really sure what was going on. It starts out at the end of a college semester, with Sahara and Emily going to a Frat house party, getting drunk, and getting Emily’s brother Emmanuel – who Sahara’s in love with – to come pick them up. On the way home, tragedy strikes, the chapter ends, and we pick up 10 years later – with no indication of what happened after the tragedy. No idea who lived, who died, who was hurt, etc. Throughout the first part of the book, there are things alluded to that happened in the wreck, but we aren’t told who was hurt or how until Sahara goes back home to deal with the parole hearing for the person who caused everything.

For 10 years, Sahara has been blaming herself for the events of the night since she was the one who wanted to go to the party in the first place. She’s cut herself off from everyone in her hometown, and prevents herself from getting too close to anyone as punishment, and because she’s convinced that she only destroys those she loves. She meets Ty in the gym located in her building, and feels an instant attraction. When she sees him later at the Open Mic Night she attends, things escalate quickly. Danielle did a great job building up to the sexual scenes in the book – especially Sahara & Ty’s first time. There was a bit of insta-love, which I’m not a fan of. It seemed like the characters went from hello to I love you in a handful of pages, and only a couple of days.

The book had a really good premise, and I was overall happy with the way the author built up to the scenes in Sahara’s hometown – including the courtroom scenes which I never saw coming! The only thing I really didn’t like, was the ending. We are left to make our own conclusions as to what happened, and the ending was more a chapter ending than a book ending. I’m left really hoping there is a second book, so that I can find out what really happened, and how Sahara ends up. Will she end up with Emmanuel, or will it end up being Ty?

This book gets 4 stars from me – the rating would have been higher if not for the end.

Back to Life by Danielle Allen
I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Sahara wants to celebrate the end of her exams and convinces her best friend, Emily to go out to a party with her. After having a few drinks the girls call Emily's brother, Emanuelle, to pick them up.
What happens that night changes Sahara's life forever. Now ten years later, Sahara is living one day at a time, her main goal is her job and keeping the terrible pain and memories at bay. She has no friends, no lovers, lives alone. She uses her ipod and her playlist to keep the panic attacks and bad thoughts away.
But, sometimes you just can't run far enough away. Sooner or later you have to face things and that time has come for Sahara. A letter she receives sends Sarhara's fragile emotions into a tailspin.
Unable to sleep, Sahara goes to the gym and meets a really great guy named Tyree. Sahara feels she is toxic to anyone who gets close to her. She tries to avoid getting involved with Ty, but the atrraction is just too strong.
But, when Sahara is forced to return to her hometown, she realizes she had misjudged the people she thought she had wronged. Face to face with those she left behind, Sahara is now confused about her feelings. But, Sahara could never imagine the way things would turn out. Shocking revelations come to light and Sahara will have to make one of the hardest choices she has ever had to make.
This is a really emotional story. I can not imagine what Sahara must have been going through. I could understand Sahara's feelings totally. I also tend to react to major life changes the same way. Sahara blamed herself for something that was not her fault. She was really hard on herself. Ty helped Sahara to start living life again. She learned to love and laugh and to gain the courage to face the past. Ty was dreamy, sexy, thoughtful, and good for Sahara in many ways.
But, Sahara's past must be faced and wrongs must be righted. A little closure would have gone a long way, but just as it looks as though things will be settled for Sahara, two unexpected events could once again change things forever.
I loved the author's style of writing. This girl knows what women like to read. The clothes, the playlist, the hot guys spicy romance , along with a compelling plot makes this one of the best contemporary romances I have read in a long while.
I feel like I must tell you that this book does end with a bit of a cliffhanger. But, have no fear! The second is out right now and is called Back to Reality.
If you like contemporary romance with a little steam and emotion and heart I highly recommend this one.
This is an A+

Sahara have a lot of baggage. She is affected by an accident that happened 10 years ago that still haunts her. Because of her past, she has kept everyone at a distance. She has alienated her family, her best friend Emily and her first love Emmanuel, who happens to be Emily's brother, thinking that she is the cause of all of their pain.

In comes Tyree, a game changer. At first glance, their attraction is instantaneous and their relationship progresses quickly. However, Sahara's past keeps her from moving past her guilt that she feels from the accident and at times, makes her shutdown, which frustrates Tyree, but he is willing to stand by her, waitng for to be ready to open up to him.

When Sahara have the opportunity to confront her past and the accident that has changed her life, she has to deal with Tyree and his connection that what happened to her 10 years ago, her first love, who is determined to win her back and also trying to come to terms with what happened on that tragic day.

When I started this book, I was immediately hooked. The roller coaster of emotions that was felt throughout almost gave a whiplash. There are time that you can feels Sahara's pain. It felt that you were going through it with her. You could feel when she finally opens herself up to Tyree. You laugh, cry and get angry with her. Music played an important role throughout the novel. Which I loved. Danielle use of music at some climatic points within the book, I could here it, while I was reading the book and heightened the emotions that I was feeling while reading. And made me love the book even more. The novel does end in a cliffhanger, which usually annoys me to no end, but I'm not ready to leave this story and I'm anxiously waiting for the next book.

When I l found out that Back to Life was Danielle's first novel, I was surprised. Her writing and her ability to allow her reader to connect with the characters is amazing. Back to Life is one of top favorite of the year. I can't wait to see what she has in store for us in her future works.

Well…I was going to wait until tomorrow to write my review of Back to Life, but I decided to do it now, while all the emotions are still fresh in my mind. I went into the book blindly, without knowing anything about the storyline. I never even read the synopsis, since Danielle gifted it to me for an honest review.
I started this book late one night. I thought I would get through a couple chapters before going to bed, but after I finished the prologue, I knew it was going to be a long night. After the prologue you are fast-forwarded ten years later to a very damaged Sahara Lee, where the story begins to unfold.

My emotions were everywhere in this book but two feelings remained constant, hope and love. This was a journey, I would put myself through again and again. Danielle Allen wrote this so beautifully, slowly revealing secrets and bringing in new twists just as you think you have it figured out, keeping your mind in constant motion. Back to Life is filled with first love, adult love and friendship. The characters are all lovable, especially Sahara and Tyree. Oh, Tyree, there are no words for him. I can only wave my hand in front my face to cool it down. He’s completely delectable! Don’t double think this one, click it!

***I received a copy of this ebook from the author, Danielle Allen, in exchange for an honest review***

Sahara Lee has been living with the heavy weight of guilt from the past, straining her personal life until nothing exists but work and music. To others, she appears distant, cold, and aloof, while she's suffering in silence. A chance encounter with a new neighbour changes all that. Tyree 'Ty' Barker is everything Sahara never knew she wanted, and fear has her putting on the breaks. Ty, however, won't take no for an answer. Even when she admits the painful reason she holds back from others, fully expecting him to bail, he proves her wrong.

By the middle of the novel, I didn't expect the twists and turns in the plot, which both shocked my darn heart into pausing its beats before taking off like a racehorse, roiled my stomach, and had me cheering for Sahara to come out on the other end stronger and happier. The twists don't stop from there, but keep your eyes riveted to the page until...ZOMG: cliff-fricken-hanger ending!

This book was a non-stop emotional will she/won't she, hiding-from-the-past adventure you don't want to miss.

I would have given it 10 stars if the author gave it a happy ending; I'm a sucker for happy endings.
Other than the ending, I love this book!
This book brings back the feeling of the first few dates i had with my husband when we first met. The excitement. The thrill. I love every bit of romance between Sahara and Tyree! :)

It definitely left me feeling soooo in love. ^___^

Characters- Loved the characters. They were genuine and real. Very relatable in this situation.
Plot/Storyline- Plot was well written with a great flow and perfect placement of twists and turns.
Steam Factor- Very steamy!! Yummy Ty! YUMMY!
Cover- The art gallery makes sense since art is Sahara's place of solace in this story.
Cliffhanger- YES!!!!!!!!!
Overall- Really enjoyed this book and the way it had you guessing what exactly happened and then had you stunned when another fact came into light.

This is the story of Sahara, a girl who has shut herself away from any type of pleasure in her life as a penance for an accident that occurred 10 years ago with her best friend, Emily, and Emily's brother, Emanuel. Sahara distances herself from any friends or family she had before the accident. She has empty sexual relationships (not many, she has long term detached relationships) to satisfy her physical needs but nothing long term that may bring her happiness or love; she makes sure of this.

It's very sad to see Sahara punish herself for an accident that was really an accident. She buries herself in her work as a Human Resources manager and is fantastic at is since she is so introverted and standoffish. She is perfect for the job and states this fact by saying, "Not being very social is what helps us to excel at our job. [...] For instance, in order to be the neutral party one has to be entirely neutral. To handle interoffice drama, one must be outside of the fray to negate any allegations of favoritism or fraternization. So standoffish works!"

Things are going neutrally perfect in Sahara's numb life...until Tyree Barker!!! The HOT SCHMEXY guy that she keeps bumping into. He makes her body hummm and want to do things that she hasn't dared allowed herself to indulge in in a long time. In order to know what happens, you will have to read the book, but let me just tell you that Tyree is the perfect swoon worthy character and is the kryptonite to Sahara's cold barrier. Things heat up, a love triangle surfaces, and you are left wondering who Sahara is going to choose and what the hell just happened?! Friends resurface and feelings are in the balance. I know I will be picking up Danielle Allen's follow up novel as soon as it comes out. I NEED answers!!! I would definitely recommend this book for anyone looking for romance, hot sex scenes, game changing twists, and love triangle challenges. I still don't know who's team I'm on in the love triangle. Both guys are amazing and I am a bit jealous of Sahara for having such sweet guys pining for her. Enjoy!!

Favorite Quotes:

"It's been a long time since my heart has felt as full as you've made mine feel the last couple of weeks. I can honestly tell you that this has been the best two weeks of my life. You are perfect. You are absolutely perfect. But I know I don't deserve you. I'll ruin you like I ruined the lives of everyone else I've ever loved."

"'Smells delicious baby, [...].'
'Thank you! I wanted to be done before you woke up, but I had an incident.' I looked in the direction he was pointing: sauce was all over his T-shirt/
'Well, I am enjoying the show...' I flirted as he turned to face me.
'Good because I plan on giving you a more comprehensive show in the near future,' he winked.
'Looking forward to it,' I said as I kissed the center of his chest."

"'Sahara, tell me what you want for your birthday,' Ty asked quietly through gritted teeth.
'I want you,' I panted."

"'I know and I don't want to make your life difficult. I just had to tell you something and I couldn't do it over the phone. So here I am now, doing what I should've done along time ago.' Taking a deep breath, he continued, 'Right now, you're his and I'll respect that [...]. So now I'm standing in front of you as a single man telling you that I'm in love with you [...]. And if you'll have me, I'll love you for the rest.'" -quote edited to prevent spoilers ;)

What I Thought:

I cannot begin to tell you the range of emotions I went through while reading this book – back and forth – happy and sad – I should have had emotional whiplash! But even with all of that, I loved it. Danielle Allen’s writing is amazing – beautiful and her plot twists and turns kept me on the edge of my seat. I got an email asking me to review this book and to be honest at first I was not sure whether or not I would be interetsed, but once I started I was hooked – and I’m so glad I decided to read it. From the summary above you can get the jist of what happens in the book, but I can tell you there is so much more to discover. It’s absolutely not one of those book covers that gives it all away before you read it.

I found Sahara to be… heart breaking. Watching herself keep busy with work and her music, to keep the demons at bay was heart breaking all in it’s own. Her guilt over what she thought she had done weighed even me down as I read the pages. That is one of the things I most enjoyed about the book, you could “feel” the emotions coming off of the pages, and I felt for Sahara. Punishing yourself for 10 years is…wow..just so sad. Then enter Tyree….

Tyree is amazing – strong, sweet, caring – and just what Sahara needs. It’s like he woke her up again, and for that I rallied for his character the entire book. Watching their relationship develop and watching him help her overcome her demons and open up was amazing – I love a story where the couple grows out of something that is so hard. Seeing her alive again through his eyes kept me reading through the more difficult moments. Although, Tyree is amazing – he does not come without baggage himself, and as i like to say “no one is perfect.” I don’t want to put any plot spoilers here, but I will tell you it will be a surprise and will add twists and turns you did not expect to be taking with this story…enough said – READ IT!

Now – we also had some supporting characters – I just really want to mention Emily who could not have been a better best friend. She kept on while Sahara shut her out continually for 10 years – who stays around for that? She does, Emily should be the depiction of what a best friend is.

Post-It Recap:

In the end I give this book a 4.5/5 stars. I loved the writing, the characters, and the story. The romance was hot and sexy – and I cannot wait to see more from these two characters. The only thing I have to say is that the cliff hanger is KILLING ME! “Back to Reality” is out soon and I cannot wait to see what happens – hoping I”ll get to be part of the blog tour for that one too! As much as I love being left wanting more, I want more NOW!! So my reccommendation, get this like today – read it asap – and be ready for the next book to come out and see the next chapter of their story.

Sahara Lee is a young woman struggling to overcome a series of events for which she feels responsible. Suffering from PTSD, depression, and an overwhelming sense of guilt, Sahara systematically cuts herself off from those who love her because she is afraid the people closest too her hate her for what occurred, but fails to realize that she is leaving a trail of misery in her wake. Sahara believes herself to be unworthy of love or friendship, but knows that she is an extremely intelligent and savvy businesswoman. In business she is exceedingly successful…the ice queen….never getting close to her co-workers, never sharing anything of herself, and keeps her professional life far away from her personal life. Outwardly she is cool as a cucumber, but inwardly is a whole different story. Sahara is a seething mess of personal conflicts, but also a master of disguise.

Emily Mills is Sahara’s best friend. In college, she aspired to be a professional dancer, but some things are simply not meant to be. She’s known Sahara her whole life and considers her the sister she’s never had. Emily does not know why Sahara has completely distanced herself from the family. She is confused and hurt by Sahara’s physical and emotional distance. But Emily refuses to write Sahara off and is determined to discover the reason for Sahara’s retreat.

Emmanuel Mills is Emily’s older brother and is the object of Sahara’s seemingly unrequited love. A potential NBA candidate, Emmanuel seems to have the world by the balls. Yet appearances can be deceiving. He has watched over Emily and Sahara for their entire life and loves them both dearly. He is very hurt and confused by Sahara’s desertion.

Tyree Barker is a self-made entrepreneur, and owner of ‘Jimmy’s’ – an upscale restaurant and night club. He is handsome, wealthy, and interested! Conveniently he is Sahara’s new neighbor.

Sahara has to return to her hometown in order to testify at the hearing of someone up for an early parole. This person is at the crux of her self-imposed exile from all who care for her. Will she be able to overcome her intense fear and anxiety and confront her past head on? Will all of those whom she has abandoned forgive her and allow her back into their lives? Will Sahara be able to forgive herself, allow herself to put the past behind her, learn to love and be loved, and step into a future bright with possibilities? Or will Sahara simply choose to live in exile, hating herself for her past.

Back To Life is not just a story. It is one woman’s journey back towards the life she deserves. I am very glad I took this journey with Sahara and look forward to continuing with Back To Reality!

4 stars!

When I first picked up Back to Life, I'm not going to lie my first thought was great here we go again with another damaged female. Don't get me wrong I love these books but it seems like that is all I have read lately and to be honest most of the women in these books drive me crazy. This one surprised me though. Yes at times I wanted to reach into my kindle and bitch slap Sahara but that was because I was so engrossed in the story. She is damaged but the way the book is written you feel her pain and struggles. She really develops as person as the books progresses. Just when you think you have the story figured out Danielle throws you for a loop.

From the outside Sahara looks like she has everything, but looks are deceiving. Inside she is a mess! She has spent the last 10 years of her life isolating herself from everyone and everything but her job. She blames herself for one tragic night and punishes herself by refusing to live. All that that changes though when she meets Tyree. Oh Tyree, he is handsome and caring and he brings Sahara back to life again.

" His presence, his touch, his kiss makes me forget any and everything else." Sahara

I loved the relationship these two have. It wasn't rushed at all and develops naturally. Tyree takes his time with Sahara and doesn't push for to much. This is a pretty long book, which I love because when most books would have ended this one really starts to pick up. I don't want to give any spoilers so let me just say that their relationship is tested. The past threatens to destroy everything thing these two have built. Sahara has to decide between her first love and the man who thought her how to love again! If it effects you the way it did me you will be surprised by the turn in events. I was on my toes with this one and just when I thought I had things figured out it surprised me again.

Overall I really enjoyed this one. I'm excited to read the second book in the series. I do have a few complaints though. One being that I felt like it was a little to descriptive at times. I found my skipping over some portions because I really just wanted to get to the plot and I really didn't care what they were wearing or what music they were listening to. The other being this one is a cliffhanger! Oh how I hate cliffs! It isn't as bad as some other books I have read but it is still a cliff! I will give Danielle Allen credit though because although this book is a cliff I do feel like this portion of the story was told in the first book. I can't wait to see whether Sahara and Tyree will get their happy ever after.

Growing up Sahara and Emily were best of friends and are now attending college together. Emily’s older brother, Emanuel, has always been the star of Sahara’s dreams.

In my mind, I was the future Mrs. Sahara Mills. I just needed him to get on board seeing as how I’d been not-so-secretly in love with Emanuel Mills since I was 5 years old!

It is nearing the end of the school year for Sahara and Emily, and an event happens that will change the course of future direction for everybody involved…from wanting to be a dancer, to playing basketball in Italy, to wanting to be a doctor. All these dreams are now a fragment of the past.

Fast forward 10 years and Sahara is very successful. Sahara is now 28 years old and has made a choice to be a loner. She has foregone all friendships, including the one most important to her…Emily’s. This is all done by Sahara’s feelings of guilt. Sahara feels that she has done nothing deserving of friendship and will only cause harm to those she is friends with.

Tyree is a new tenant in Sahara’s building. Tyree is very kind and would like to get to know Sahara better. Tyree’s friendship and their attraction towards each other are allowing Sahara to feel things that she hasn’t felt in 10 years. Tyree has to leave the city for a few days but is leery of leaving Sahara. As they say their goodbyes something amiss is whispered to her…"If we can survive this, we can survive anything.” Good to know that there may be some trouble coming later, because this relationship was just a little too perfect for my tastes.

Sahara needs to return home for an issue that requires her attention and presence. While there she cannot escape seeing the man that was the forefront of her dreams for years. What happens when Emanuel voices his feelings for her?

I loved both men, but for very different reasons.

Sahara needs to make a choice, but there a couple obstacles she has to face in order to reach her decision. Both men are hiding something…something that will definitely play a part in making her decision.

“I chose you. I choose you. I love you.”

I found the first half of this book to be slow moving, but once Sahara returns home and is reminded of her forever love for Emanuel, then I felt my pulse quicken and the angst settle in. Sahara made a firm decision as to who she chose, but there a couple more monkey wrenches thrown in on the last few pages that will lead into the next book, “Back to Reality,” which will release on Dec. 1, 2013.

Back to Life is one of those books that while there’s nothing bad about it, there’s nothing really memorable either. While the novel was well written and put together I just found myself a little bit bored with a story that I’ve read so many times already. Though this novel had a lot of good things going for it, such as the good writing and fleshed out characters, it didn’t change the fact that I just wasn’t all that impressed by the story itself.

Right off the bat I really liked Sahara, even though she was still hurting from what happened to her in the past I could tell that she was going to be a strong character and push through what happened to her, no matter how hard it may be. Sometimes indie novels have a little bit of a problem with flat characters but Sahara had a well rounded personality. I could relate to her a lot in that she really loved music and art and, though I knew where it was going, I did enjoy how Allen slowly revealed parts of her story, instead of dumping it on me all at once.

The romance between Sahara and Ty moved quickly, super quickly, but it worked well enough for the story. There were some moments where I wish things had been a little slower to give Sahara and Ty a chance to really get to know each other before things between them got so intense, but the quick speed helped the story move along. They both had interesting stories and I liked watching how they intertwined and overlapped. Ty was also a well written character and didn’t suffer from the lackluster personality some male love interests suffer from.

Even though I really liked the characters it didn’t change the fact that the plot was nothing special. It wasn’t bad, but I’ve read the same thing plenty of times before so I just couldn’t get into the story the same way I might have if it had been a bit more original. I could see everything coming a mile away and the only thing that ended up throwing me for a loop was the ending. The cliffhanger Allen throws us at the end was the most exciting and unexpected part of the whole novel and while it did make up for a lot of the predictability in the beginning it didn’t completely erase it.

Overall Back To Life wasn’t a bad book, just a little on the forgettable side. Allen does have talent as a writer and with a more original plot she definitely has the potential to write something really good.

Ten years ago Sahara was a victim of a tragic accident. With no family left, her best friend and her first love in the hospital, and their parents grieving for them in the hospital Sahara does the one thing she can to no longer hurt those around her, she picks up and runs away to Richland. She thinks she doesn't deserve happiness after the accident she believes she caused so she gives up her dream to be a doctor and finishes school to turn around and become HR at Miller Security.

For the past ten years she has blamed herself, no letting herself get close to any man, not making any friends, and still struggling to come to terms with what happened that night. She barely speaks to her best friend Emily and Emmanuel she hasn't spoken to since the night of the accident. She's alone until she meets her new neighbor Tyree Barker. Tyree in the short amount of time he knows Sahara gets further than anyone else has in the past ten years. They fall in love and Sahara opens herself fully up to him telling him her one secret that she's shared with no one other than those who were there for the accident.

But when Sahara opens herself up is it something that Ty can handle? Will he run away or will he stay and love Sahara in a way she never thought she deserved? When Sahara returns home to face the man responsible for ruining her entire life can she come to terms and face those she left behind when she ran? What secret does Ty have that could rip her entire world apart? Ty helped Sahara come back to life but will the events of her past continue to destroy her and her happiness?

When I was approached to read and review this book I loved the synopsis. When I saw the cover I wasn't so sure but from the first moment I opened this book and started reading I was hooked. This story captivated me, made me smile, and made me cry. It was so hard to read about the things Sahara had to go through and what she lost that night. Ten years is a long time to hold onto that type of grief especially when you're all alone. I was surprised to find that Danielle is a new author as she rivals some of the best out there. This isn't a story you will want to miss and will leave you begging for the next one. The wait is going to be long, but it will be worth it, 5 stars.

This book was UNREAL! I was hooked from the beginning, and did not want to put the book down. Damn real life getting in my way! lol It was very emotional,I wanted to be able to put my hands threw my kindle and hug the life outta this girl! Ugh,okay calm down *sniff* Let's start at the beginning. Were introduced to the books main Girl Sahara. she's in her freshman year of college with her life long best friend Emily. One night Sahara really wants to go to this college party so she begs and pleads for Emily to go with her. Of course Emily ends up going. No matter how tired she is. It's there freshman year,it's in the unwritten hand book to party and have a good time. They go,they party, they wanna go home. They both agree to call Emily's brother Emanuel, knowing he would kick there butts if they didn't. Sahara is so in love with Emily's brother at this point. Always having a crush on him growing up,and there near kiss makes her want him even more. He picks them up from the party, and off they set home. None of them knowing that, that night would change there life for good. Nothing would be the same. And so Sahara run's. She leaves her family, her best friend and her heart and doesn't want to look back. Flash forward ten year's,she's working in a great job has a fabulous apartment. BUT it's all a lie. This isn't the life Sahara was meant to have. She was meant to do medicine, but that night ten years ago took it all from her. She is closed off from everyone, not wanting to open up her heart, not willing for anymore heart break. She glides threw life enjoying it as best as she can alone. Until one day she meets Tyree Barker. Who not only wants to break threw her shell but want's to blow it apart. Like a flower she blooms around him, slowly he helps her open up at her own pace, until finally he's in her heart as much as she is in his. But what if the past didn't want to stay in the past? What if you had to go back and face your demons? Nothing ever stays buried forever,no matter how much you wish it would. Running can only get you so far before it finally catch's up with you. Everyone should read this book,I cannot WAIT for this authors next book. I hope to still have nails left by the time its out lol ;)

Review by Natalie

Sahara is trying to get her life back together. Sahara Lee and Emily Mills are best friends. Their parents have been friends since college. So they grew up together and were like sisters. Sahara and Emily even went off to college together.

Emily was in college to be a teacher and Sahara was a pre-med student. After Sahara finished one of the hardest tests of the semester she needed to unwind and have fun. Emily on the other hand was ready to rest without the fun.

Sahara finally convinced Emily to go to the Spring Social that everyone was going to. Knowing Emanuel, Emily’s brother, would be their DD if needed they had fun and let loose. She always looked forward to seeing Emanuel because they flirted with each other all the time. Everything was going good, until an accident changes their lives forever.

Ten years later, and Sahara is still hating herself and taking blame for what happened that night after the Spring Social. That one night at 19yrs (years)old reshaped everything she thought of herself and everything around her. Sahara moved away from all of her family and friends. She was freeing everyone from seeing her and being reminded of what she had done.

Sahara never made any connections with anyone she came in contact with. For her it was easier that way so she never had to talk about her past. Will she ever make a future for herself? Will she find love?

I absolutely LOVED this book. It reminded me of Taking Chances. This book made me feel every emotion I have. I would be laughing one moment and crying the next. Danielle did a great job writing this book and putting all the characters together. There is so much more to this book than my mini synopsis that is amazing. For an new author I can only imagine the absolute genius she will bring to paper once again. For me I think she will be up there with Molly Adams and Colleen Hoover. This book is definitely on my top five of fav books for sure!! If I could I'd give this book ten stars but I guess we'll have to settle for five ;)

I received this novel from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Sahara has more baggage than a Beverly Hills socialite on vacation. On the surface she’s this independent woman with an amazing job, good looks, and a trendy loft, but beneath all that greatness lies an emotional wreck. She’s tough on the outside when she has to be but completely damaged. The accident that changed her life ten years ago has left her emotionally scarred, and she just can’t seem to get past it. I thought that was so identifiable. Who hasn’t had to ‘fake it till you make it’? Face it, girls. At one time or another, we all have hidden behind a mask of makeup and a cute outfit so that the world won’t ask questions we’re too bleeping scared to answer. Enter Tyree—sexy, sweet, compassionate, AND it doesn’t hurt he’s rich. But it doesn’t stop there. Before her journey into herself is over, Sahara must contend with the first love of her life, Emmanuel, and let me tell you, every time he pressed his forehead to hers, I think I swooned a little. I was as torn as Sahara about which man to choose, and I was a little disappointed when she chose . . . Well, you’ll have to read it to find out.
There were some fantastic twists along the way in this cathartic novel, and I only had two complaints. First, I was on description overload at times. I like knowing what characters are wearing and what the setting looks like so that I can really envision everything, but I’ll admit to skipping some of that in this novel. I got a little bogged down by all of the minute details. Secondly, I wanted to reach in and strangle Sahara on more than one occasion or give her one of those movie slaps to make her stop crying. She cries A LOT. I know she’s releasing all her demons, but do they have to go out bawling?
Overall, this one is a fantastic read!

MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS

10 years ago at the end of her freshman year in college a terrible accident sent Sahara to leave everyone she ever considered family. She left behind the Life she once knew. She doesn't make friends anymore or form emotional connections with anyone. She is just a shell, and thinks she doesn't deserve to be close to anyone because she ruins the lives of everyone she loves.

When Sahara meets Tyree the sparks between them are intense and no matter how hard she tries she just can't seem to force herself to stay away. As their relationship grows Sahara finds herself for the first time coming to terms with what happened all those years ago. Just when things are finally looking brighter something forces her to go back to the one place she never thought she'd go ever again.
She Returned to a place that was once her Home

Will she be able to finally put the past behind her or will everything come crashing down? Adding in a first love she thought she lost long ago and secrets that come crashing in around her, is she still the girl that ruins everyones lives? Or will they ruin her?

Throughout the story Sahara comes across as weak and wounded. I loved how she had a passion for art and does everything to seek it out, but her wishy washy attitude toward Ty and Manny drove me up the freaking wall!!!! Tyree's a man not afraid to go after something he sees that makes him happy and I loved his passion for his resturant. Manny was living in the past of shoulda, coulda, woulda's. But when they were together so did Sahara and it made her seem even more uncertain of herself.

Title: Back to Life
By: Danielle Allen

Laura's Review:
I will not cry. I will not cry! Yeah-- fail! This book had me on an emotional roller coaster and a complete snotty mess!!

I haven't cried like this since Molly McAdam's Taking Chances! Kudos to Danielle Allen who was able to convey a powerful emotional pull with very intense characters. So I immediately knew:

You’re transported into a reality that I personally would hate to live through but Sahara is consumed with misplaced guilt that has defined her life. There are moments that I wanted to pull on her curls and say, wake up it’s not your fault!!! And lets be honest she was living a very lonely life for a decade but held a facade.

But it was brilliant how Danielle brought all of the pieces of the puzzles together. Not mention how she delivered it with even more of the gushiness of love at first sight! Not once but twice!

I have a love hate relationship about Emmanuel and I’m head over heals over Ty!!! But the sucker that I am for first love.

In the end this new series has me on a tight rope and of course this insane woman and ended it with a cliffhanger and now I have to wait with bated breathe until December!

Harsh-- I know! Alas I give this big book of ugly cry tears a resounding 4.5 Stars!!

4 & 1/2 Stars from Iva for Kota's Book Kollection

"This is a flawless story. The writing is superb, the story alluring. The characters are well developed with a palpable authenticity that makes you able to connect with them. It is narrated by Sahara, and this gives the reader a chance to really connect with her and see how guilt has necrotised her emotions.

Sahara is a shattered mess. Her whole life has been smashed apart by an incident that occurred when she was just 18. Rather than living, she goes through the motions, protecting herself from emotions by not establishing any new friendships and not maintaining her old ones. It is only through the discovery that Tyree has recently lost his only family member that she allows herself to explore the attraction she feels for him.

Tyree has an inner strength that comes out in his words and his gestures. He is patient and kind, smart and steady. His romantic gestures are not over the top, and I think this is what makes him a character you can enjoy in the hero's role.

The ending of this book is a cliffhanger. I love cliffhangers because they give me a true indication of how enthralled I am in a book. This is one book where I had no idea I'd reached the end and a resounding "NOOOOOO!" echoed through the house when I turned the page and found only "The End' staring back at me. This ending has me as deperate as a glutton locked out of a banquet for the next book, not only to see what happens with the story, but because the writing style of the author is very good, with important plot points being revealed in manner that adds to the reading experience." - Iva

A Nicely Done Coming-of-Life Story

After reading the book description of Danielle Allen's BACK TO LIFE, particularly the last three sentences, I was moved to read this book: "Back to Life reminds you that living and existing are two completely different ways to go through life. Grief will break you but guilt, guilt will destroy you. And once that happens, what can bring you back to life?" This alone made the story sound real to me, so I jumped in, hoping the book was as good as its hook.

It is.

Allen presents us with Sahara Lee, a character that is real, that is flawed, that is hurting and searching. I connected with her quickly. And I think other readers will, too, and because of that, they will follow her through her journey of dealing with and recovering from a past tragic accident and its effects so that she can have a future worth walking toward. In a lot of ways, BACK TO LIFE feels like a coming-of-life story about Sahara, but it's also a story about love of self and of others: finding it, accepting it, and embracing it. Allen does a good job with layering conflict in Sahara's story, and while reading it, though you'll think you know where the story is going, you'll be pleasantly surprised at the twists Allen plants. My only quibble is the abundance of description in the book. I like just enough description to paint a character and atmosphere and let me interact with it all while reading. Too much, and I tend to gloss over or skim to get back to the meat of the story. Despite that, this is a book I would recommend.

Seriously, don't judge a book by it's cover. That is exactly what I am feeling at this moment. I looked at the cover and thought..meh..but I literally finished the book 5 minutes ago and had to get my thoughts out ASAP. UPDATE: NEW COVER WOO HOO LOVE THE NEW COVER!!!!!!!

I honestly wasn't loving this book for the first 40% - yes there were great scenes between Sahara and Ty and there was an emotional back story that was told throughout the book but I found my self annoyed with how much Sahara was blaming herself but really, you can't know if you'd react the same as Sahara did unless you were in her shoes. I decided I had to get over my annoyance.

When I did..it was at the best time. The time I was waiting for throughout the first half of the book. Yes please, let me see this past, let me meet these people. I don't want to give too much away about the book so this review is going to short and sweet. I've had books where I've gone back and forth with who I thought the person should be with but I could always make up my mind quickly. I COULD NOT make up my mind in this story.

He is perfect..oh wait no, that was sweet, oh wait no..how could he do that?! Seriously, I had whiplash from my extreme emotions between the characters. I'm at the last 5% and I'm thinking I feel like something is resolved, I had this little voice in the back of my head saying..this is really great, I'm really liking where this is going to end but tap tap tap I think there's something unresolved. Then the ending...BAM..seriously?! Yup that's what was unresolved and what happened?!

Next book please, like now! I NEED TO KNOW

4 Stars!

3.75 starsSahara Lee was an outgoing, vivacious college student living life to the fullest. She had her career planned out and nothing could stop her dreams. That is until one fateful night when tragedy strikes and changes everything....

10 years later we find that Sahara has become a competely different person. She has isolated herself from her best friends and former life to try and numb the pain and guilt she feels. She is no longer living life to the fullest, she is burying herself in her work and her social life is non existent by choice. Music is about the only thing Sahara can really let herself feel..Just when life couldn't be lonlier, Tyree Barker enters the picture. He is a smart, handsome businessman with the same love of music that will bring them together. They will find out that they have more in common than they think...or may want. Both of their pasts come back to light in a shocking twist and their relationship will be tested...will Sahara be able to come "back to life"?

I have to say that I really enjoyed this story! It pulls out every emotion from the start to the end. I thought the character development was good and I was always anxious to see what happened next. I am torn on the rating between a 3.5 and 4 star, so I am going with 3.75 stars. Although the story had it's slow moments, it really picks up in the second half and it leaves you on the edge of your seat, and that includes the ending ;) This book is a definite must read, you will become invested and hooked. GO GET IT!

I was given this book from the author for my honest review

I enjoyed this book. This is a book about a girl that had something tragic happen in her life and instead of facing it head on she ran from it thinking that everything was her fault. Sahara was a freshman in college and one night she decided that she wanted to go out and party with her friend Emily while they were out they got really drunk and they called Emily's bother to pick them up and then on the way home something tragic happens that changes everyone life.

Fast forward 10 years and Sahara has cut herself off from everyone in her life and she only looks for relationships that comes with no attachments because she's afraid that if she loves then something will happen. One day she meets a guy in her building name Tyree and she doesn't understand why she has this attraction to him. Times goes on and she starts to like him and she opens up and tells him things that she has never told anyone else before. Than bam her life gets thrown for a spin. She has to go back home to face her past and she finds out things that she never knew about that night that changed everyone's life. She finds out that things were not the way that she thought that they were and that she was running away for nothing that the guilt that she felt was all something that she made up.

I look forward to reading the next book in this series to see how everything works out for Sahara and the gang

Review by: Kaylene Osborn for Magic within the Pages

This book was captivating from the beginning. Sahara is lost in her own world of pain and hurt after an accident destroys her life. The accident takes away her father, and destroys her relationship with her best friend Emily, and the love of her life Emmanuel. After the accident she moves far away from the only family she has ever known, her best friends family. Ten years pass by with her merely existing, and being closed off from everyone. She finally meets Tyree, a wonderfully compassionate man who steals her heart. Time catches up with her and she is faced with her past again, when she must face her best friend and the man she grew up loving. Needless to say, without going into too much detail that Emmanuel and Tyree face off when she has to decide who she wants to be with. The ending tore me up and now I have book hangover.

I enjoyed the book and gave it five stars. This book was well written, and the author slowly revealed the secrets of the book. There were some minor editing issues throughout the book. I also found at times there was a frustrating amount of explanation, way too much detail. There was also a cliffhanger ending, which will force me to stalk the author now to find out when the next book in the series comes out. However, overall I thoroughly enjoyed the book and would definitely recommend this read to others.
