Yet Rafe Hendrix was obviously not a man to accept defeat, and Charis immediately knew he was the one who could rescue her young sister.
Jane had been spirited away by a religious sect, and Charis feared for her safety and sanity.
Rafe planned their campaign with an army efficiency, and as Charis's admiration grew, so did her love for him. But Rafe had made it clear from the start there could be no place for a woman in his life.

Heroine Charis Radcliffe (who is 22) is worried about her 19-year-old sister Jane. Jane was at university and took a holiday job at a hotel in Cornwall during Easter vacation and she got friendly with some young people who introduced her to a religious sect called The New Brotherhood. Instead of going back to university, Jane went with these people to their headquarters in Bristol, and apart from one letter Charis hasn't heard from Jane since. Charis is worried that Jane is being held against her will, or that she's being brainwashed by the Brotherhood. Charis thinks the Brotherhood may be holding Jane because Jane (and Charis) are due to come into a lot of money from an inheritance from their parents, who passed away, soon. Charis has tried to enter the Brotherhood's headquarters (a big old house on the outskirts of town) to enquire about Jane but they wouldn't let her in since Charis is a non-believer. Charis is getting desperate and worried about her sister so she hires hero-Rafe Hendrix (34) to help her out. Rafe was in the Army but he isn't any more due to a leg injury and he now walks with a limp. Rafe searches for some info on The New Brotherhood and finds out that they have about four different communes (some with high walls around them) and Jane could be at any one of them by now. So Charis and Rafe pack their bags and equipment and go looking for Jane.
I really enjoyed this book. This was an unusual and strange storyline for a Harlequin Presents. Charis was a good heroine...she was naïve at times, but also gutsy, like when she jumped on the bad guy that went after Rafe. Rafe was sometimes a bit overbearing and demanding, but then, so are most HP heroes. This story didn't focus as much on the romance but it did have some nice moments, like when Charis persuaded Rafe to go to the funfair and ride some rides.
This was a fun vintage read by Sally Wentworth from the 80's.
A very sweet and thrilling tale involving a joint rescue attempt of the h's sister by the h and H. The h is dead worried when her 19 year old sister is taken in by a religious cult and brainwashed, cutting off all contact with the h. The h then hires the H, an ex army major, to attempt to rescue her beloved sister, who is her only living relative. How they go about achieving it, while falling in love is the story.
Engaging, filled with likable characters, enough chase elements to keep you hooked, and a development of a sweet love story between a scarred hero and a strong heroine. The love story takes a backseat to the search plot, and that's why the rating.
Well, this one is unusual! The heroine (22) hires the ex-major hero (34) to kidnap her younger sister from a cult where she has been for 3 months. The heroine has spent that entire time trying to get her out, and is a really honourable and wonderful big sister. After being invalided out of the army, the hero has a weak right leg, and a hair trigger temper about anything related to army life - as a career soldier he is struggling in civilian life. But together they head off to Gloucestershire to free the sister. It’s interesting, and there are some cute scenes and I loved how open the heroine is - she doesn’t try to hold back once she falls for him. But perhaps it needed more emphasis on the romance, than the rescue. I’m going to give this 4 stars as she is an admirable heroine and she’s going to need a lot of patience whilst the hero gets used to a new kind of life. It’s a good thing that he is big, strong and the chemistry is hot. Plus I liked that he was not a millionaire, and just a normal man on an army pension - millionaires are so boring.
