Dino Gore

Rate this book
When Dex is chased by Billie and his gang of hooligans into the old Ellis manor, he didn’t think that things could get any worse. But when an ancient dinosaur is released from the confines of the crate it was imprisoned in and begins brutally eating everyone in its ravenous path one by one, the young man was clearly mistaken.

Now with his back hopelessly against the wall, he enlists his best friend Henry in order to make a last ditch stand against the bloodthirsty beast from another time AND the maniacal Billie and his gang of thugs as well.

Who will survive and what will be left of them? Prepare to be pulverized by prehistoric horror galore in Dino-Gore!

Haven’t we all been in a situation like this before? Stumbling upon an abandoned billionaire’s compound and accidentally unleashing an imprisoned dinosaur? Oh, that brings me back to my youth. Sweet, sweet memories. So, here we followed Dex, who was a bullied teen that got himself into quite the sticky wicket, something akin to a premise for Carnosaur 4. His character was developed somewhat but needed more to make later aspects of the story more meaningful. The pace was awfully quick and parts of the beginning, mostly concerning the owners of the estate, felt like an information dump, needing to be spread out a bit more. And I had a lot of questions about the dinosaur, leading up to its escape and towards the end, too. Plot holes and such were aplenty, none of which took away from the main idea of the book. However, to use one of my favorite literary expressions…this ain’t Shakespeare. You went in expecting what the awesome cover promised and got just that. So, despite some shortfalls, the nonstop bloodshed and lovely detail of the gore were both much appreciated. Specifically, Billie’s interaction with the creature had me laughing and was quite memorable. The ending was very predictable, but still made sense. I also really enjoyed afterword by Otis Bateman, too, giving this experience a nice, personal touch. A fun way to appease those of us who want a much uglier and bloodier version of Jurassic Park.

Ok, this was utterly ridiculous, but also pure fun, cheesy as heck, as gory and extreme as anything Bateman has written! He makes you feel those dino teeth drooling all over you. Expect some drops in IQ, and also carnage, craziness, a hungry evil dino and lots of children getting chomped. And if you've read King's "The Crate" or remember it from Creepshow, there are some Easter Eggs for you! The afterword was quite moving as well. Read it and enjoy!

I’m loving the splatter dino horror trend that’s happening right now!!

This was a decent entry into the sub genre, with lots of terror and gore.

I think it would’ve been cool to expand on the owners of the mansion a bit more. I also felt the dialogue between the kids was a bit stilted/awkward at times.

I absolutely adore this book! Fun characters facing a terrifying creature from the past. I couldn't help but root for Dex and Henry the whole time.
Some of the scenes gave me vibes of The Crate from Creepshow and I was all for it! What a blast to read.

How is this not a best seller?!

If you enjoyed Goosebumps, Alone in the dark and creepshow, then you will LOVE this book!

This was so much fun to read and so light-hearted! I can't recommend this one enough!

So, this gem of a cover popped up on one of my social feeds, and the synopsis - an ancient dinosaur released into our world and its hungry - made me check it out.

I've been in a reading slump this year, not much holding my attention for any length of time, and I had hoped that this one would break my slump.

The story was okay. It didn't go quite the direction I expected it to, and THAT was okay. However, I was finding some of the dialog to be cringe. My brain would start screaming "NOBODY TALKS LIKE THAT!" And I'd have to close my kindle for a while.

There was gore in Dino Gore. Not enough to be off-putting to me, and I'm not usually into extreme gore for gore's sake. I look at it like this - If you take out the evisceration and decapitations is there still any story left - and in this case there was enough.

Actually, I wish there had been more dino pov scenes.

I did like the book, but not as much as I had hoped to like it. Then when I read the afterwards I felt bad for not loving it.

The books was good. I wanted more gore!
The children however read like adults in the way they thought and spoke. And the book had some spelling a punctuation mistakes

A gory creepshow inspired dino book. A fun, bloody, quick read, that balances something a little more youthful, but still with extreme horror elements.

It’s just ‘The Crate’ from ‘Creepshow’, but with a dinosaur. Do with that info what you will.

I absolutely adored this, dont really have much more to say than that. This was fun, bloody and different, and who doesn't love dinosaurs? One of my favourite books that I will think back to and reread when Im down. And the afterword made me cry, and I have never cried from anything I have read before. Loved it.

Does what it says on the tin. Nothing more, nothing less. Short story with plenty of descriptive gore scenes. Short on character development/history but that's to be expected from such a short book. Would have liked to have more back story on the owners and how they came to get the Dino, but again, it's a short story, so what can you say.

Dug this a lot, and if Dino horror is your thing, I would definitely recommend it.

Otis Bateman takes us on a ride with a dinosaur, hooligans, with a ode to Creepshow. Excellent fast paced story filled with carnage from a mini 🦖. The afterward Otis included pulled at my heartstrings.
