The Summer I Said Yes

Rate this book
I'm not in any position to pursue a relationship. The last one I was in almost destroyed me. But even though I know he's toxic, I can't stay away.

He has a dangerous smile and eyes that seem to see right through me. A kiss that makes me forget all the ways he could break me. And when he touches me, I become a wild thing that disregards all the walls I so carefully erected to keep me safe.

So I left without saying goodbye.

I thought that was the end. I thought I'd never see him again. And then he walked into the Freshman Art History Survey course I was teaching.

I'm a young woman in my twenties writing about other young women in their twenties who are finding love, discovering themselves, and following their passions. I love (tastefully) smutty stories and happy endings, so I write romance! Thanks for checking me out and happy reading :)

Ok read, with some twists and turns, it had potential to be really gripping!! Unfortunately, some parts are boring. I found the book to be a short story and it finished quickly. Some bits are unrealistic, like what happens in their teacher/student situation, I find that a lot of the chapters seemed rushed, with out depth put in to what is happening. Whats worse is; It is a cliff hanger ending and so far no indication if the next book release, not sure if I'd buy it, i hate it when a book is released then people are made to wait long periods of times for the next book, by then most have forgot about it and moved on to something else.

Emily was a little immature, she didn't know what she wanted and led Jack on.

I NEED the next book, because no way can it end with that kind of cliffhanger!

“You just want me because you think I’m a challenge.”
He cocked his head to the side. His hand slowly moved up my arm as his blue eyes focused on my lips. “I’m not going to insult you by saying that you’re not a challenge because you are. Everything I’ve ever wanted in my life has been a challenge. Everything worth fighting for is a challenge. But that’s not why I want you, it’s just why I’ll fight hard to get you.”

4 stars! WOW....

I devoured this book in one sitting! Every damn chapter was engaging and I had a hard time putting it down! This is a well written story that would make you feel. I was frustrated with Emily- I just want to shake her and pick who she really wants, then laugh (specially when she got drunk!) and fell for Jack and Peter! I didn't know what to expect when I got this book so I was a little surprise with the love triangle thing going on and to be honest I hate.. hate love triangle specially with two hot guys fighting for a stupid girl (yeah, yeah.. I'm jealous ok.) but I was already into the story that I actually didn't mind it.

But darn it... darn ittttt!!! What pissed me off is the MAJOR CLIFFHANGER!
description

Freaking A! I didn't see that coming... ugh! I want to read the second book now... this wait is going to kill me! LOL

But hey! I'm rooting for Jack.. so I hope everything will work out!

DNF @ 38%

I started out liking this book, it was fun and carefree, but after a while it started to morph and I had no clue what was going on. The guy I met in the beginning was nowhere near the guy now; I mean how could the sexy surfer guy possibly this man on his knees after one night? Still in my cloud of disbelief and not wanting to be left behind, I kept on reading but then it morphed again… I literally felt like I was missing some major parts of the story, maybe it will be explained later on, who knows and after looking at other reviews to see if there was something that I would be missing I threw in the towel. Some said there is a not so nice cliffhanger, a love-triangle, but so far the players involved didn't really hold my attention and the way the book made me feel, I decided to DNF the book.

The summer I said yes,,,, well when I got done with the story I'm saying No!! In the beginning it had some promise thinking this is going to be a really good story but, sorry to say it left me disappointed. The back and forth with the emotions of the characters was giving me crazy whiplash and it felt rushed to me. I couldn't wait to be done with the book sadly. The cliffhanger really? Did it really needed one. I'm not looking forward to the sequel. So over it.

I really enjoyed this book... and nearing the end, I had a feeling that was coming.... but now I'm left hanging waiting for the sequel- which is something I try not to do. I prefer to read series back to back so everything is fresh in my mind and so I don't get upset with authors and tend not to finish or support them.

So although I know the end of the book and website have said late 2013, it's not 2014- how much longer do we have to wait?

Cliffhanger..... no second book anywhere to be found. Loved the story line, but I've never yelled at the characters so much. The girl was an immature 24 year old and the guy was a ridiculous 18 year old. The scenes that should have been short were long and Vice versa. Poor editing. Just ugh not a book I would ever recommend.

This was yet another find on Goodreads, The Summer I Said Yes has a pretty decent rating and lots of very good reviews, so I decided to read it. I wish that I hadn't bothered. The synopsis clearly states that she ends up teaching her summer fling in a Freshman Art History lesson. I can never remember the American grades, so I had no idea when I started reading that Jack was only 18. Not such a big deal? Well, when Emily's 24 it kind of is. She's the TA in the lesson, it's forbidden for them to date, but he still pursues her. Okay, she sends him mixed messages, but dude, you're EIGHTEEN! Don't start a bar fight over a girl that isn't even 'yours'.

Before the crazy teacher-student relationship Jack and Emily meet at a wedding party Emily is working. He, apparently, fell for her legs, and jumps into the swimming pool naked. She runs away from him a few times, and then she takes him back to her apartment. He has, not one, but 25 condoms in his pockets. Little excessive. The next morning he cooks her breakfast, a normal thing to happen, and then gets down on one knee and proposes with a plastic ring. They've only known each other for three days at this point. The guy is clearly crazy, RUN, ESCAPE AND NEVER LOOK BACK. Emily senses the crazy and runs. And I commend her for that.

"He didn't mean to come on so strong? He'd proposed marriage after knowing me for only a few days, and just moments before, he'd suggested that this bizarre infatuation had started when he saw my legs on my morning beach run."

That's one crazy eighteen year-old.

So not only was there a six year age gap, there was also a love triangle. I know! I didn't think the book could fall any lower, and then it did. Peter is the guy that I would pick, hands down. I don't care about the incredible chemistry and sizzling passion between Jack and Emily. He's a boy, and it doesn't matter what the authors got him saying, he does not have the emotional maturity to date a 24 year-old, let alone marry one!

"I was a 24-year-old woman obsessing over an 18 year old boy. It was pathetic and creepy."

My sentiments exactly.

A little aside, Emily moans about Jack being immature constantly, yet she's clearly the really immature one.

The ending really bugged me, as if there wasn't enough for me to moan about. I'm not going to say what happens, nobody wants a spoiler. But I will say that there's a huge cliffhanger, and sometimes I don't mind a cliffhanger, they can work. Especially when the authors actually publish the sequel. That's right, the second book is yet to be published. This is despite the fact that on Grace Wells' website it very clearly says

"The tentative release date for the sequel, 'The Winter I Let Go', is December 2013."

It's nearing the end of September 2014 and The Winter I Let I Go still hasn't been released. This wouldn't annoy me so much if the cliffhanger wasn't SO annoying.

I didn't enjoy The Summer I Said Yes, the premise really appealed to me, and perhaps I expected too much. I'm disappointed and annoyed. I moaned to my friend about this book A LOT. So I can honestly say that I really didn't enjoy it.

It was an okay book not a favorite. The book started out really well and I enjoyed where it was going until she went back to college. From there I just felt like some aspects were rushed. I can understand trying to rush a love life when your trying to forget another one but it just didn't sit well with me. At times Emily pissed me off, like me putting my nook down and taking a breather pissed. She was so worried about Jack and him being immature because of his age but she was so unbelievably immature I wanted to smack her. I wish it went into a little more sexual detail as well. The parts when I thought it was going to was squashed with interruption and her coming back to her stupid senses. Of course there is a sequel and of course I will be reading it. I will not give up hope for Emily and sexy as hell Jack!!!

This was a great read, I found myself being pulled in by the love triangle right along with Emily. Throughout the novel it was easy to become conflicted right along with Emily about who she should choose in the end. I predicted the end of the book, and I was annoyed with the clifhanger at the end. I really just wanted to read the next book right away. Peter is great and all but I think she will choose Jack in the end. I recoomend reading The Summer I Said Yes closer to the release of the second book, because of the clifhanger at the end.

Wow can anyone say insane cliffhanger.. you seriously want us readers to jump out of our seats in frustration with an ending like that!

Need to meet this Nathan character though!

Great easy read, lots of gritty drama to sink your teeth into!! Only thing that annoyed me was the constant back and forth (can I say mixed signals anyone?)

When I read the title of this book and synopsis, I didn't think it would end with a cliffhanger. I thought it was a stand alone novel, but no....you get a WHOOPING cliffhanger. The book started off really well, but then as it went along I got a little frustrated with it. I'm not quite sure where the author(s) are going with this book, but I will be looking out for the next book. I want to know how this is going to play out.

It must be unfair to write a review when I didn't finish the book...but let me just say these 3 words to describe this book: Over the Top! Everything was over the top in this book, the characters were, the situations and the descriptions; from streaking in a party just to skinny dip in the freezing ocean? running over a raised bridge??and a marriage proposal the next day?? Can we be more real about this? I'd like to read a contemporary romance book that is not like fantasy...sigh

WOW what a great book. This is a book that must be read. I couldn't believe when she found out he was her student. But that wasn't even the biggest shocker. I don't think anyone say it coming at the end who Jack really was. Now I really want to read the next book. I really enjoyed this book and now she has a choice to make in the next book.

OH HOLY SHIT!

Seriously, I loved this novel, even though it is a series. I laughed a lot throughout the novel at the quirky humor and then the cliffhanger ending nearly killed me, bring on the second novel to this series I say!

Too many highs & lows for me in this book. Not really sure of my overall view. I'll follow through with second book & rate the series based on that.
