The Keeper

Rate this book
The Keeper is a thought-provoking contemporary drama that explores the mysterious power of friendship and love. The atypical romance within this PG-rated novel weaves its way through a psychological story of human relationships and social satire.

The protagonist, Dr. Christopher Seacrest, is chief of staff in a renowned medical facility and is one of the world’s shining stars. Immersed in his self-sufficiency and false ideals of perfection, he lives immune to the fact that he has somehow disavowed life itself. A brief patient-doctor meeting in an exam room between the arrogant Chris and the unpretentious Caitlin Rosenberry soon changes all of that.

Initially the powerhouse surgeon finds little of interest to him in the young, post-stroke patient, but their meeting results in the physician’s perfect façade developing a hairline crack. Fate brings the unlikely pair together again and again, and sets a series of cataclysmic events into motion from which there is no turning back. When Dr. Seacrest finds himself in love with Caitlin and she vows never to see him again, he can no longer deny life’s invitation to his own healing.

Announcement from the author:

The Kindle edition of The Keeper will be available
for only $.99 on Amazon until March 11th, 2014. I dedicated The Keeper to victims of trauma. A quote from the novel:

He wished it were he who lay in the silken recesses of the coffin, not Harlan. It would be infinitely better for everyone, especially him, if this were his funeral instead of Harlan's.

Interesting story

This was an interesting story. When I first got it I figured I'd just check it out before putting it in my to be read like but I found I couldn't and ended up reading it through. The author definitely has me from the time I picked it up and started reading. Great jib!

Nothing personal

Sometimes when someone seems distant or unreachable, there’s a lot of background interference. This story of trauma and recovery unveils a surprise and a love story.

Yes, it's a keeper.

Finally comes a book that is immensely satisfying, completely different, intellectually stimulating and a love story that makes the reader believe real love may actually exist. I don't often read "romance" books because they are filled with graphic sex, superficial "lust" and nothing but "hormones" gone crazy. Be prepared to read a totally different book AND besides no graphic sex, there is a TOTAL lack of "gratuitous" filthy language. It doesn't have to rely on sex and filth, because the story completely holds it's own without the garbage. Such a tiny percentage of books now written can be outstanding books WITHOUT thinking they have to have filth, violence, horror, etc. ad nauseam. So refreshing!!! I hope authors out there will take note and try relying on TALENT instead of FILTH. I hope this book takes the world by storm and gets true recognition for its excellent writing, it's unpredictable story line and the TALENT with which it's written.

I really enjoyed this book. It is unusual for the leading man,to be so vulnerable but it was not off-putting and made him more human. Also, this book clearly shows how unafraid men are to love regardless of background yet women find it hard to fit in if they feel inferior. I like to think that he was so blinded by love that he did not think about making her more prepared to meet his lah-di-daah family. He is always nicely dressed, he could have taken her shopping. Her wardrobe sounds more dismal than mine. The breakup was sad but this usually gives the time needed to get perspective. The end feels rushed and I feel cheated out of being a part of the reconciliation and the proposal. Nevertheless, I was glued to my reader until the end, and in the final analysis, that is all that matters.

This was a different contemporary story. The characters are well defined. The heroine is lost emotionally much of the time. And the a s the plot progresses the hero is the one who goes from self assured to finding his way. The romance is interesting and not as well developed. But, the peripheral characters are interesting. The romance is clean.

Earthy, Crunchy

Very predictable. Moves slowly. Characters are not developed enough. No real anticipation points. Might be better listed as a short story.

Surviving trauma

A quick paced read. The story shows our need of God in surviving any form of trauma. Encouraging and necessity of moving beyond your past.
