In the wrong hands, the Turning Stone ring is a powerful weapon for evil. So, when homicide detective Alexi Jordan discovers her secret society mentor has been murdered and his magic ring stolen, she is forced to use her shape-shifting powers to catch the killer. By doing so, she risks the two most important things in her life—her badge and the man she loves.
Rhys Temple always knew his fiery cop partner and would-be-girlfriend, Alexi Jordan, had a few secrets. He considers that part of her charm. But when she changes into a man, he doesn’t find that as charming. He’ll keep her secret to keep her safe, but he’s not certain he can keep up a relationship—professional or personal.
Danny Shaw needs cash for the elaborate wedding his fiancée has planned, so he goes on a mugging spree. But when he kills a member of the secret society of Turning Stones, and steals a magic ring that gives him the power to shape shift, Shaw gets more than he bargained for.

Two hearts creating everlasting love stories.

Putting words and stories on paper is second nature to co-authors C.D. Hersh. They've written separately since they were teenagers and discovered their unique, collaborative abilities in the mid-90s. As high school sweethearts and husband and wife, Catherine and Donald believe in true love and happily ever after, and that’s why they write romance.

The first four books of their paranormal romance series entitled The Turning Stone Chronicles are available in e-book format on Amazon. Can’t Stop The Music, their standalone romance novella currently out of print, won the 2018 Uncaged Book Reviews Contemporary Music Raven Award.

In addition to writing Catherine and Donald love antiquing, traveling, singing, and going to the theatre. Catherine is also an avid gardener and has drawn Donald into her garden as a day laborer. They figure the couple who plays together and works together, stays together—and that's just what they aim to do.

They are looking forward to many years of co-authoring and book sales, and a lifetime of happily-ever-after endings on the page and in real life.

The authors have put together an intriguing and compelling novel with believable and likeable characters. I found myself pulling for them and worry about them throughout their journey. I enjoyed the plot and liked the way the authors were able to mix the paranormal with true-to-life characters in such a way as to make the story smooth and believable. There were several spots, however, that did shift my focus and I found myself rereading certain paragraphs to make sure I was getting the authors correctly. I suppose you would say this did, in fact, remove me from the story. For this reason I have rated this a three. Enjoyable as it is.

I was hooked from the prologue! Hersch's vivid writing and fast pace made The Promised One a thrilling experience. When Baron's killer has his first encounter with the ring, the dynamic description of the object brought it alive for me as if I were holding it in my own hand, watching the lines become circles. The conflict-filled romance between Lexi and Rhys is compelling. Rhys's recognition of the gap between the Lexi he fell in love with and her identity as a Promised One tugged at my heart. Secrets, betrayals, and human failings notwithstanding, I never stopped rooting for their happy ever after. Keep those Turning Stone Chronicles coming!

In The Promised One, C. D. Hersh has introduces us to a feisty homicide detective, Alexi Jordan hiding a dark secret. Discovery of her uncle’s murder and the loss of his magical ring threatens her job and her relationship with her partnership, Rhys Temple. Despite the risk of losing both, Alexi has no choice but to use her shape-shifting abilities to find the killer and retrieve the ring. The alternative, the irrevocable shift of balance between good and evil toward the dark side, is unacceptable. This face-paced paranormal romance hooks you in the prologue and keeps you turning pages to the end.

The Turning Stone ring comes to life in the prologue. I was immediately hooked and wanted to read more about its shape-shifting powers. And the characters who belong to the secret society of ancient shifters determined to improve the quality of human life. This strong paranormal element adds tension to the conflict-filled romance between Alexi Jordan and Rhys Temple. While reading, so many questions come to mind: Why didn’t Baron (Alexi’s uncle) provide more details about his past? Who can Alexi trust? Will Alexi and Rhys achieve their happily ever after? Set aside large blocks of time to read this fast-paced paranormal romance.

The Promised One is a skillfully structured story blending a real-to-life relationship between the main characters Alexis and Rhys with a paranormal overlay originating with ancient shifters whose goal was to make the world peaceful and a better place to live. Neither the romance nor the shifters find their journey easy. Add to it a hint of Celtic Welsh/Scots dialogue and the story becomes more fascinating as the characters shift to different identifies to solve a “who-done it” murder mystery. I found the story to be one that held my interest and the imagination of the authors has successfully created a remarkable book. It was a pleasurable read.

You’d think with the title this book would be religious, and if I hadn’t met the authors (a husband & wife team) and heard them talk about the story, I would have probably never taken another look at it. Sorry--titles can repel this reader and I’m not one to read religious books. But the story intrigued me. Unfortunately (for me) all sex is behind closed doors. Boo hoo! The story in this book ended, but other events are left open, since this is apparently the first of a series. I liked the story well enough, but I had a lot of nit-picky issues that other people might not even notice (or care), which was enough for me to knock off a star.

Holy Cow. This one surprised me. I was immersed from the beginning by curiosity about the ring. Then things became more and more complicated.

Love the way Rhys and Lexi work off each other. And the complexities of the relationship compounded by her hidden "talents".

Can't help but like Rhys...nice character development and the way he watches out for Alexi makes you root for him from the start. Lexi's a tough girl/cop and certainly appeals to our inner "girl warrior" as she strives to solve a murder that crosses realms that will surprise you.

I think you'll love this one.

This is writing at its best, immediately engaging you into the storyline. The shape-shifting aspect of the book is unique and interesting. You know that Lexi is keeping secrets and you want to find out what they are. The characters are believable, with all too familiar flaws and fears that most humans face. Throughout the book, you are rooting for Rhys and Lexi to get together and make their relationship work. This is a fabulous read.

Reading paranormal has not been my thing, but after reading The Promised One, I've changed my mind. I thoroughly enjoyed this book from beginning to end and look forward to reading subsequent books in this series. The author leaves the reader wondering throughout who is truly bad and who is good. Will Temple be turned to the bad side? Will Temple and Alexi's love survive her secrets? Is Eli who he says he is? And most of all, what will happen to them all in the next book.

Only one thing wrong with this book: I turned the last page and it was OVER.
But the adventure is nowhere finished. I immediately signed on to Amazon to order the sequel and realized it doesn't yet exist. AAARRRGH!
Hurry up, C.D.Hersh! I want more of these characters!
C.D. Hersh has written a compelling paranormal adventure with wonderful characters. The way they told it kept me racing along for more. Can't wait to find out what happens next.

The reader is plunged into a paranormal world where detectives Rhys and Alexi are charged with solving the murder of Alexi's uncle. Why did her uncle keep her in the dark about the paranormal life she must face and the evil that lurks there? Who can she trust? Can she turn her back on her destiny and grab a little happiness for herself or must she fight alone forever?
